SPOILERS! Indigo Disk Discussion

Blazed through the main story overnight, so spoilers ahead.

For a DLC pack that wears the Area Zero association on its sleeve and is designed to reach a climax in a super-secret hidden section of the place… this kinda sucked in terms of being a resolution to the Area Zero mysteries?

Like, what did we really learn here? Going down the list:

1. Terapagos is responsible for the Terastal phenomenon. Cool. We’ve known that for months.

2. There’s an even deeper part of Area Zero where Terapagos dwells. Alright, but what’s so special about this deeper part?

3. It’s where you can find Stellar-type Pokémon. Neato, but that doesn’t really tie into any of the questions that the base game had set up.

4. So, what’s the correlation between the “Imagined Pokémon” / hybrid sketches in the Scarlet / Violet Book, and the new Paradox trios? Answer: :mehowth:

5. Okay, well what about the big symbol etched onto the ground of the cave where you find Roaring Moon / Iron Valiant? And what about the mysterious metal plate? Heath seemed to think those things held some kind of significance, so what was up with those? Answer: :mehowth:

6. Alright… in that case, what about the “phantom memory” that Heath mentioned experiencing, where he blacked out and woke up with a note written in his own handwriting that he couldn’t remember writing? We actually do get an answer to that… somewhat. If you take Terapagos to the Crystal Pool, you activate a scene in which Terapagos’s power summons Prof. Sada / Turo - the real one, at a point in time before they had completed their work on the time machine - to the pool. It’s enough to assume that what happened with Heath was probably this same phenomenon, as well as the rumors about people communicating with “dead” spirits near the pool (they were people from other points in time). However, there’s a complication here… the note that Heath woke up with was written in his handwriting, which seems to suggest that he may have interacted with a future version of himself. Which of course just replaces the existing question with a new one: When did Heath travel to the Crystal Pool to experience the other “side” of this event? And why? What was the significance of the note?

7. Also, on the subject of that meeting with the real Sada / Turo, it seems that we are entangled in an ontological paradox, as through the dialogue choices, it is possible to give the Professor the inspiration for the name “Koraidon / Miraidon,” as well as the idea to contruct an AI duplicate of themselves. That’s all fine; I figured that a game with a time machine and things called Paradox Pokémon probably couldn’t resist throwing in the old bootstrap loop somewhere… but there’s a problem. We can infer that this is supposed to be a self-contained ontological time loop, because one of the Professor’s notes found on the desk at the entrance of the Area Zero underdepths describes this meeting from their point of view, and mentions that they received a white book from us. And when the scene plays out on our end, that does happen… but in exchange for Briar’s white book, the Professor gives us their copy of the Scarlet / Violet Book. The same copy of the Scarlet / Violet Book that Arven picked up in their lab and was carrying throughout the main storyline, which we used in order to shut down the time machine. But if the Professor gave us that book at a point in time before they had completed the time machine, it wouldn’t have been around for Arven to find.

8. Speaking of Paradox Pokémon, where donthey come from? Answer: The Professor in the Crystal Pool scene seems to suggest that they are extracted from alternate timelines, rather than the timeline that the Professor / we are in. Which to be honest, of all the theories I’d seen people propose for the existence of Paradox Pokémon, I feel like this is the least-interesting option they could have gone with, because it makes Paradox Pokémon little different from Ultra Beasts — those are also bizarre quasi-Pokémon that originate from parallel realities.

On the one hand, I’d like to think that there could be a Daybreak-esque free update that will also include more material to resolve some of this loose ends and problems, but on the other hand, I find it frustrating that I might have to wait yet more several months for this story to actually finish, when it seemed like that was something this wave of DLC was supposed to do.
While we're at it, Terraform Zero seems very deliberately designed to shut down Paradox abilities even though the mon itself seems perfectly fine instigating temporal nonsense rather than keeping it in check (contrast Aura Break and Air Lock)

Regarding #6, we've been told that Ogerpon's trainer dumped Tera crystals into the Crystal Pool, so assuming you're correct, either Ogerpon's trainer got to the Pool before Heath did...or Heath is the one who dumped the crystals into the pool. Did Heath pull a Lafcadio Hearn, go into exile in Kitakami, and give his heart to Ogerpon instead of Cyclizar (who may have already died at that point)?

...Or was Heath's first encounter with Terapagos just so trippy that he wrote a note and didn't remember writing it when he came to?

The Futuristic room features Pokestar-UFO.

Now that I'm done with the main story I can actually check this thread.

All I'll say is, I'm moderately satisfied by the game battles, they were *VERY* rough with a "story team" and i have been kept afloat by (Water)Ogerpon way more times than I can count. Glad to see they finally managed to produce some challenging story.
(We all know you can faceroll this with lvl 100s but that's beside the point)

Throwing my thoughts on the actual story in spoilertags just for safety

The academy part is kinda disappointing. I was expecting some sort of "Kieran possessed by the peach mon" but he was just being a crybaby.
On other hand I absolutely love Lacey, and I despise all the E4 trials with passion.
Call me old but I'd rather just punch their face in battle then spend 15 mins talking to random npcs to get materials.
I almost credited the dragon trial if it didn't make me waste 15 mins finding 6 mons and getting them to lvl 80, only to then roll my face on the 3 trainers with unevolved mons.
The E4 battles on other hand... see above, fuck focus sashes, credit where it's due, good teams, good challenge.

As for the Terapagos bit... I was expecting a bit wider area to explore honestly rather than just a corridor with no real deviation. Terapagos battle was interesting and almost demolished my story team again, praise Oger, really the best girl.

Also my biggest remark honestly is that... sigh... the new zone manages to lag *even more* than some of the previous ones. At this point gotta hope they will be better at optimizing for gen 10...

I dont have much to write about, but i had a somewhat entertaining encounter with a League Club miniboss trainer. I'm mostly cheesing the battles by employing the Discharge+Earthquake combo, using Kilowattrel and Clodsire from my in-game team. And so the duo is up against the aforementioned opponent, using an Alolan Golem and Chinchou himself. I don't want to hit myself with Earthquake, decide to sacrifice my bird, and stay and Air Slash Golem. Chinchou then uses Electric Terrain, and Golem then uses... Explosion. And! Explosion is Electric-type. And my Kilowattrel has Volt Absorb. Why would AI ever go for that play?.. Perhaps it is programmed to use terrain and has one move on Golem?
Also i was a bit excited to hear NPCs talking about BP at the entrance area, and then my disappointment was immeasurable when i found out that you earn BP from doing random nonsense quests, akin to earning Nook Miles in the newest Animal Crossing... Come on GameFreak, I'm too shy for PvP, let me have my Battle Tower equivalent...

So How do I Unlock the rest of the Classes available at Blueberry Academy?!!

I've only been able to access ONE Class. . .

and I Don't know how to get any more classes after the first one. . .
I don't think there are any, that first one is just meant as a look at how the school usually functions

I feel like there's an alternate version of the DLC where we do classes and slowly battle our way up to the Elite 4 (which they note is the usual way things are done) but that's not what they wanted to do in the DLC so we just bypass it entirely. "you get the gist"

Speaking of which, are we actually able to evolve the Hisuians now that they're pretty much all in the games? Anyone tried/checked?

There was discussion somewhere in the dataleak thread. If I remember right, hisuian mons that evolve by moves now work but at least the Black Augurite needed for Kleavor is still missing.

Stantler > Wyrdeer: I’m not 100% certain, but I’m pretty sure it can’t
Scyther > Kleavor: No (you can’t obtain Black Augurite, though Kleavor can be found in the wild)
Ursaring > Ursaluna: No (you can’t obtain Peat Blocks)

As for Hisuian Forms, in cases where the first evolutionary stage has a Hisuian Form, they’ve always been evolvable in SV, with the exception of Hisuian Qwilfish, though it can now evolve in SV as well (it just needs to level up while knowing Barb Barrage).

So How do We Unlock the other Features like Inviting Gym Leaders like Larry;

Because I'm NOT A Pokemon World Tournament-level champion. . . and I'm not willing to put up with the Headache of trying to beat Drayton(Who I Hear is the HARDEST of the E4; and As Someone who Struggled against Lacey; who assumedly is the EASIEST one out of the E4; I'M BONED if If everything else aside from customizing the Base, and Customizing your Throwing style, photo filters, Lock-on; Synchro Machine, Item Maker, Adding more Pokemon to each terrain, is locked behind beating the E4. . . Since I REALLY want to be able to face off against Larry again; AKA MY FAVORITE E4 Member/Gym Leader in the entire Region of Paldea

I Tend to go with Moves that Deal Damage; not Buffs[After all; I'm not going to give my Opponent the chance to 1HKO my Pokemon while I'm busy Buffing my Pokemon]

lmao no

Kleavor is actually around the terrarium, freely catchable and can even spawn around groups of Scyther, in an area that should by all counts spawn Black Augurite. But it doesn't and Scyther's method wasn't updated anyway
Ursaring & Stantler also didn't have their methods updated

Qwilfish-H did have its method updated (just know the move). Also Overqwil is in raids for some reason.

ALSO
You can now make Galarica accessories at Lacey's corner of the terrarium. So that's nice.

I think you have to beat the DLC (dunno if its just beat the Blueberry chunk or the whole thing)

e: Oh Qwilfish-H is just in the terrarium. Well that explains the Overqwil raids.
It's...apparently a cold water fish? And just around the world now? Huh.

DANG IT!!! I'll never be able to Defeat the ENTIRE E4 to unlock Larry visiting BB Academy; that's way above my skill level; ESPECIALLY Drayton

You are given the option to invite other teachers / npcs after beating the story. The Director will unlock it in the club room.

DANG IT; I Can't beat the story; I struggled against Lacey(who I've heard was the EASIEST of them); How am I supposed to beat the rest of the E4; ESPECIALLY Drayton; the hardest of the E4

My brother in Arceus, just get your mons to level 100 and roll over their face with tera boosted stabs.

Actually you must be trolling...

Adventures in Item Printing:
Upgrading the item printer makes it more efficient both in terms of BP used and the value of each material, and you will always be notified when the upgrade is available since it's just based on how many pulls you've done. It's a pretty interesting investment and I like it better than the cramomatic's weird recipes that were still luck based because you can just get a lot of random items. After I ground out all the club stuff I could do before postgame I decided to max out the printer and see what I got along the way. I just spammed all my Delibird Parcels even though I had a bit of overflow every time, but I didn't try the autofill because I want to keep materials around. Happiny Dust and Milcery is also worth a lot as well. Switching the number of print jobs automatically deselects everything.

1702605257721.png

The Lucky Egg and Amulet Coin are gold level pulls. I guess that's fair for items you could only get one of a single time. Also the Fairy Feather is here, as well as Milcery sweets with the Flower Sweet being silver. I don't really see why a single Tera Shard has to be a silver though.

1702605367135.png
1702605375846.png

The Masterpiece Teacup and Star Sweet are also gold pulls. I'm glad there's a better way than Oustin' for it, even if the BP grind to get to this point may take similar effort. I guess it's still supposed to be the rarer sweet. I noticed Strawberry Sweets being bronze as well.

1702605525231.png

I got the Ribbon Sweet as a gold here, and a bronze Unremarkable Teacup which is a pretty good deal. Ability Patches being gold is a nice bonus too.

1702605687496.png

The Poke Ball lotto seems like it has a good chance of giving out actual good stuff when it triggers unlike the cramomatic.

After looking into the text files, I learned that the item printer's final upgrade is postgame which allows it to print "multiples of the same item" (I assume this means not rolling x1s all the time) and can print Stellar Tera Shards. It doesn't seem like it gets more efficient though. I don't know if all the pulls I did count will towards it when I unlock it but it's another incentive to finish DLC2's campaign before all the grinding I guess, on top of legendaries being tied to BBQs (solo and group).

1702612105271.png

One of the group BBQs is to make a 4-star sandwich, which requires reaching 100 in each flavour. This is most easily accomplished by putting 5 Herbas on the sandwich in co-op. An alternative is just to disband the group and skip it, because you can't reroll group quests.

EDIT: Today I heard some people playing didn't get the quest to proc potentially because not all participants were in the sandwich group so that may also be a requirement.
