Now that Indigo Disk has been datamined and it's confirmed my beloved Marshadow did not make it in, I am annoyed that GameFreak is developing a habit of adding characters with swag based on mons that aren't making it into the game! Klara prepared us for this possibility, but SV stepped it up by adding Cyrano with a Honedge-line scarf and Raifort who is decked out with legendaries, including the Marshadow hairpin pictured and a Tapu Koko bracelet (iirc).
Realistically, I don't expect the character designers to know which mons are going to make it in or that the final list is even going to be anywhere close to decided when the characters are being designed, I'm just bummed I have to keep using Annihilape as a shoddy Marshadow stand-in for my Indigo Disk playthrough. :P
(SV really did gens 7 and 6 dirty. Only the box legends and Magearna made it in from Gen 7, while only the mythicals made it in from Gen 6 - the first box legends that haven't all made the final cut post-dexit.)
Ah yes, Aerial Ace, a move learned only by the most iconic birds:
In all fairness, this move is named after a swordmanship technique, but we still have oddities likeGolduck, like how the heck does it slash?
Also,Gogoat has Aerial Ace on its level-up learnset since its debut. Out of all non-avian Pokémon, GF has to pick the goat bike.
Real talk, why is its special movepool deceptively ass?Same reason it learns Fury Swipes and Shadow Claw.

I'm aware it's a fencing technicque, but I wanted to be petty. But huh...Gogoat is uhh...
Real talk, why is its special movepool deceptively ass?
Well not directly, but Focus Miss, Blizzard outside Snow teams, and Hydro Miss kinda is too unreliable. Everything else is base 90 at max, or Grass Knot. Nasty Plot is nice, but it's not that fast or bulky these days, and rain teams aren't too common now
Level up movepool wise only Hydro miss is BP 65 or more. Physical Zen Headbutt and Aqua Tail are Base 80 and 90 respectively, which given its stats, a little weird. A lot of the TM/Tutor/Breeding physical moves have a lot of variety for effects compared to most special, and comparable power

I swear it's a stealth mixed attacker, but the stats are geared for Special, ignoring that none are 100 or over. And this ignores how horrid its level up movepool was pre Gen 4
I still think Furfrou is being purposely kept out cause they can't be arsed modeling its textures/animations for Camp-like features.Furfrou
Don't forget the Alolan Rattata line.So according to a post on Reddit I just saw, there are just nine Pokemon left which do not feature in any Switch title and are thus locked into Pokemon Home - able to be deposited from Go (in which they're all available) or via a 3DS transfer, but unable to ever leave. Weep for the unloved forgotten Unova shitmons and that one dumb Kalosian doggie:
Spinda is also technically on this list due to not being able to be transferred in or out of BDSP, but since it's usable in those games it's only a partial example.
- Patrat
- Watchog
- Pansage
- Simisage
- Pansear
- Simisear
- Panpour
- Simipour
- Furfrou
Don't forget the Alolan Rattata line.
It really is kind of ridiculous that SV doesn't have a Battle Tower. Like I can understand the logic of not having other Facilities, but the Tower always felt like something that'd always be around for more competitive-minded players to try their hands at without going online.Making a battle academy and not having any battle facilities is a joke, like they couldn't even copy and paste BDSP's battle tower or something?
If they were from Let's Go or Go to begin with, yes. But all the Alolan rats actually from Alola are stuck there forever.Again, another partial example because it does exist in LGPE and can be transferred in if the circumstances allow for it. They are not wholly incapable of being transferred out of Home; Spinda and the others are.
It's especially wild because the Blueberry Academy's focus on Double Battles feels like a long-overdue nod to the standard competitive format, but there's nowhere to actually develop your skills once you've got a taste for it, unless you jump straight into PvP and learn by trial and error.Making a battle academy and not having any battle facilities is a joke, like they couldn't even copy and paste BDSP's battle tower or something?
Challenge: Pokémon fans don’t predict the fall of Pokémon as a franchise every single time new Pokémon content comes out (Difficulty: Literally Impossible)
I’m beyond fed up with seeing these type of videos pop up over and over again, it’s so…tiring, to the point it’s nice when people actively praise the new content. Are the new games flawless? Absolutely not, but it feels like everyone and their mother continues to hop on the hate bandwagon because it’s trendy
I would call most of the games average at worst and phenomenal at absolute best. There’s only a couple I don’t like much of anything about, and they were long before SWSH existed.

This is why I never watched, and never will watch, Lockstin's famous Reset theory from back in Sun and Moon. Its so hilarious and annoying at the same time. Like we all know at this point Pokemon is basically guaranteed to continue forever and keep making a shit ton of money. Its very very hard to imagine them doing something so awful to destroy the franchise. Its literally the biggest media franchise in the world, and the gap keeps growing.
I mean, I hear Elden Ring has a pretty nice looking tree. But that probably falls more under "pokemon's world design is severely hampered by being tied to real-world locations" than a direct graphics comparison.Thank you for writing this post.
I'd like to add a personal observation: is it me, or Pokémon is judged more harshly than other gaming franchises?
Many(Almost?) all games have game-breaking bugs, immersion-breaking visual glitches, glaring balance issues, a mountain of gameplay-related missed opportunities, cut corners, recycled content, unused content that would fit the current game, unused content that's better than whatever we got, recolored assets, copy-pasted assets, questionable character writing, text dumps, and many other little story hiccups.
Oh, and remember the ugly tree meme from SwSh? Yeah... Name one other game that received praise for the modelling and/or beauty of its tree models and textures. Just one.
Similarly, the animations. Recycled animations. Bad animations. Effects that don't match the character's model. This is not unique to Pokémon. This is even seen in games that everyone love!
It is kind of weird Necrozma didn't get a "replacement" move, but Kommo-o did huh? Like between the two you'd think it would be the former. He's a box legend its fine, let him have 3 signature moves and neutered Light That Burns the Sky.Oh, but Kommo-o gets an entire move based on its Z? Alright, I see how it is Game Freak.
This gen it makes some sense since there's no special Tera forms, but in VIII? They could easily have just made Ultra Necrozma a GMax form for Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings. The lore would literally just be that Ultra-Necrozma is the form that DM/DW take when they become supercharged, and the exact form of that supercharge doesn't matter. Done, dusted, easy to port into future games.Where the fucking FUCK is Ultra Necrozma.
I do not care about the tone of this post. My guy is in my Top 10 favorite Pokemon of all-time, and that is kinda crazy because I vastly value cuteness over cool factor, almost every time.
Mfer has the coolest lore. A sick fucking design. Arguably the best boss fight in the series. GOATed design, great in competitive without being as overbearing as a schmuck like Zacian-C.
"Oh it needs a Z-Move" fuck you Game Freak. Bring. My guy. BACK. You put in the entire other three forms in both games post cut, and you can't even make some other sort of thing?
Oh, but Kommo-o gets an entire move based on its Z? Alright, I see how it is Game Freak.
