I played in PO in like 2009-2010 or something like that, I remember playing mafia there via commands. We probably were as bad at playing mafia as we were at playing the pokemon game. I joined smogon like half a decade later and haven't played mafia in the forum format yet.

This is the best compendium for roles there is, but some are way likelier to appear than others. It’s ok not to know about roles during your first game though, knowledge checks like these are helpful but not necessary and no one expects you to have knowledge like this in your first ever game

Today you need to vote someone out. You vote for someone like vote saberslasher11 and hopefully they’re mafia or the wolf. If you’re town anyway, if you’re not then hopefully the person you vote out is town. It’s a basic “whoever has the most votes at the end of the day dies” system
At night you will use your role to do something most of the time. You should reply to your Role PM asking for clarification on what your role does and how to submit
