Physically Defensive (Hippowdon) @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sand Stream / Sand Force
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Toxic / Whirlwind

[SET COMMENTS]
With great typing and bulk, Physically Defensive Hippowdon is an effective blanket check on balance teams to many of the tiers most threatening physical attackers, such as Mega Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Iron Hands. Earthquake is a strong STAB move that threatens many of the foes Hippowdon is tasked with handling, like Victini and Zeraora, and pairs nicely with Toxic to force in options like Tangrowth and Rotom-W and cripple them. Alternatively, Whirlwind is an option to help phaze sweepers like Bulk Up Galarian Zapdos as well as force in entry hazard weak foes like Enamorus. Leftovers is the preferred item on Hippowdon, as its recovery allows Hippowdon to preserve recovery PP and turns. On teams without entry hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots is optimal to prevent Hippowdon from being worn down quickly. 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill with Earthquake. Sand Stream is the preferred ability on Hippowdon to chip the opposing team as well as potentially set sand for teammates like Excadrill, but Sand Force can be used on bulkier teams that dislike the chip on allies like Chansey. Physically Defensive Hippowdon can support attackers like Latios and Thundurus-T, as they enjoy pivoting and Hippowdon provides hazard support to weaken checks like Celesteela and Mega Venusaur as well as a defensive backbone to fall back on against Pokemon like Excadrill and Tyranitar. In return, they can help check the Water- and Grass-types that threaten Hippowdon, like Tapu Fini and Hydrapple. Celesteela is a notable teammate for Hippowdon, as it can handle the Grass-types Hippowdon dislikes while Hippowdon can handle Fire- and Electric-types like Victini and Zeraora for it. Hippowdon also finds it difficult to handle special attackers like Keldeo and Enamorus, so defensive options like Slowking and Chansey are important alongside it, and Hippowdon can check threats like Excadrill or Bisharp in return. Hippowdon also appreciates support from Fighting-resistant Pokemon such as Clefable and Mega Latias, as Choice Band Galarian Zapdos and Choice Band Iron Hands are able to brute force past Hippowdon's bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]
While specially defensive Hippowdon is generally outclassed by Ting-Lu, it is an option for teams looking for an entry hazard setter that can pressure defoggers like Rotom-W and Salamence while also checking Iron Moth while healthy. With Special Defense investment, Hippowdon becomes able to handle weaker special attackers such as Choice Scarf Enamorus and Aegislash as well as weak physical attackers like Zeraora. Earthquake serves as Hippowdon's way to threaten the foes it switches into, while Toxic is often used to pressure common switch-ins, like Rotom-W and Salamence. Leftovers is generally preferred to ensure Hippowdon can sponge both physical and special attacks better, but Heavy-Duty Boots can be used on teams lacking entry hazard removal. 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill. Specially defensive Hippowdon is only seen as a sand setter on balance sand teams, which appreciate its longevity and ability to pressure defoggers like Rotom-W and Salamence. Given Hippowdon's lacking special bulk even after heavy investment, strong neutral or super effective hits like Mega Latios's Luster Purge or Rotom-W's Hydro Pump can still threaten Hippowdon. Therefore, backup special walls like Chansey and Assault Vest Tangrowth are recommended, and Hippowdon can help check threats like Zeraora and Iron Moth for them in return. Options that can handle strong physical attackers like Mega Tyranitar and Z-Move Excadrill that threaten Mixed Wall Hippowdon, like Clefable and Skarmory are recommended, the latter of which can form a hazard stack core with Hippowdon. In return, Hippowdon can check threats like Aegislash and Victini for them. Partners like Excadrill and Keldeo also appreciate Hippowdon luring in Rotom-W and Salamence and crippling them with Toxic to allow them to wallbreak later in the game.

With great typing and bulk, Physically Defensive Hippowdon is an effective blanket check on balance teams to many of the tiers most threatening Physical Attackers, such as Mega Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Cinderace. Stealth Rock allows Hippowdon to maintain entry hazards(add letter) against the opposing team, as it gets many opportunities to switch in. Earthquake is a strong STAB move that threatens many of the threats Hippowdon is tasked with handling could put some more mentions like Hands and Zeraora, and it pairs nicely with Toxic to force in options like Tangrowth or Rotom-W and cripple them. Sand Stream is the preferred Ability on Hippowdon to chip the opposing team as well as potentially set sand for teammates like Excadrill, but Sand Force can be used on bulkier teams that dislike the chip on Pokemon like Chansey while also allowing Earthquake to be much more threatening against Mega Tyranitar. You're supposed to mention the ability after the EVs are explained (Moves > Item* > EV > Ability) move this deeper into the paragraph 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill. Physically Defensive Hippowdon can support attackers like Cinderace and Thundurus-T, as they enjoy pivoting and Hippowdon provides entry Hazard support as well as a defensive backbone to fall back on against?. In return, they can threaten the Water- and Grass-types that threaten Hippowdon, like Mega Venusaur and Toxapex Surely Pex isn't switching into Hippowdon, Slowbro or Fini sounds better. However, Hippowdon is typically seen on bulkier teams due to Ting-Lu being the Ground type of choice for offensive teams. idt it's that important to mention that Hippo is outclassed by Ting-Lu on BO teams. Also an edit i made earlier makes this line further redundant Skarmory is a notable teammate for Hippowdon, as it can handle the Grass-types Hippowdon dislikes while Hippowdon can handle the Fire- and Electric-types this can only really be applied on Spdef Hippo teams tbh, would rather you just partner with Celesteela over Skarmory entirely tbh, and they can form a hazard stack core together. Hippowdon also finds it difficult to handle Special attackers like Enamorus and Keldeo, so defensive options like Toxapex or Celesteela are important alongside it. what does Hippowdon check for them in return

Redundant since you already mentioned this earlier in the paragraph and to be honest it's not good at blocking Volt Switch from either of these due to their coverage options (or the fact that Thundy just mercs this with Nasty Plot) However, given Hippowdon's lacking special bulk, even after heavy investment strong neutral or super effective hits like Mega Latios Luster Purge or Rotom-W Hydro Pump can threaten Hippowdon. also not sure if you're allowed to bold the sets like you've been doing but better safe than sorry.

Specially Defensive Hippowdon is a option for bulkier teams looking for a Ground type that can set hazards throughout the course of a game. generic, the focus here should be how Hippo is a setter with SpD + Toxic that can pressure Defoggers like Rotom-W or Salamence while checking booster speed / Boots moth if healthy enough; SpD is really bad currently (basically Ting-Lu with recovery but without the good stuff) unless Moltres drops unfortunately. With Special Defense investment, Hippowdon becomes able to handle weaker Special Attackers such as Scarf Enamorus and Aegislash. as well as (write some weak phy attackers too like Zera) Stealth Rocks allows Hippowdon to exert pressure throughout a game, while Earthquake and Toxic serve as Hippowdon's ways to threaten the threats it switches into emphazise how Toxic punish most Hippo switch-ins, particularly Rotom-W. Whirlwind can help teams particularly weak to Substitute sweepers like Enamorus, Hydreigon, or Iron Hands. No Toxic means hippo can't pressure any defogger. Leftovers is generally preferred to ensure Hippowdon can sponge both Physical and Special attacks, but Heavy Duty Boots can be used on teams lacking entry hazard removal. 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill. where are you using SpD Hippo? On teams without entry hazard removal, Heavy-(AH)Duty Boots is the best to prevent Hippowdon from being worn down easily u can still get worn down by non-hazards. 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill with Earthquake. Sand Stream is the preferred ability on Hippowdon to chip the opposing team as well as potentially set sand for teammates like Excadrill, but Sand Force can be used on bulkier teams that dislike the chip on Pokemon allies specify like Chansey. Physically Defensive Hippowdon can support attackers like Latios and Thundurus-T, as they enjoy pivoting and Hippowdon provides hazard support to weaken checks like Celesteela and Mega Venusaur as well as a defensive backbone to fall back on against Pokemon like Excadrill or and Tyranitar. In return, they can threaten check avoid rep, hope im not changing the meaning of this the Water- and Grass-types that threaten Hippowdon, like Tapu Fini and Hydrapple. Celesteela is a notable teammate for Hippowdon, as it can handle the Grass-types Hippowdon dislikes while Hippowdon can handle Fire- and Electric-types like Victini and Zeraora for it. Hippowdon also finds it difficult to handle special attackers like Enamorus and Keldeo, so defensive options like Toxapex or and Chansey are important alongside it, (RC) ; (AC) and in return, Hippowdon can check threats like Excadrill or and Bisharp in return. Hippowdon also appreciates support from Fighting-resistant Pokemon such as Clefable and Mega Latias, as Choice-Banded Choice Band Galarian Zapdos or and Choice Band Iron Hands are able to brute force past Hippowdon's bulk.

While specially defensive Hippowdon is poorly positioned <= what does this mean? and generally outclassed by Ting-(AC)Lu, it is an option for teams looking for an entry hazard setter that can pressure defoggers like Rotom-W and Salamence while also checking Iron Moth while healthy. With Special Defense investment, Hippowdon becomes able to handle weaker special attackers such as Choice Scarf Enamorus and Aegislash as well as weak physical attackers like Zeraora. Earthquake serves as Hippowdon's ways to threaten the threats it switches into, while Toxic is often used to pressure common Hippowdon switch-ins, like Rotom-W and Salamence. Leftovers is generally preferred to ensure Hippowdon can sponge both physical and special attacks better u sponge hits without leftys but it improves that, but Heavy-(AH)Duty Boots can be used on teams lacking entry hazard removal. 8 Attack EVs allow Hippowdon to guarantee the OHKO on Excadrill. Specially defensive Hippowdon is only seen as a sand setter on balance sand teams, (AC) which appreciate its longevity and ability to pressure certain defoggers which ones? technically qc change tho. Given Hippowdon's lacking special bulk even after heavy investment, strong neutral or super effective hits like Mega Latios's Luster Purge or Rotom-W's Hydro Pump can still emphasis threaten Hippowdon. Therefore, backup special walls like Chansey or and Assault Vest Tangrowth are recommended, and Hippowdon can help check threats like Zeraora or and Iron Moth for them in return. Options that can handle strong physical attackers like Mega Tyranitar or and Z-Move Excadrill that threaten Mixed Wall name of the set Hippowdon, (AC) like Toxapex or and Skarmory, (AC) are recommended, the latter of which can form a hazard stack core with Hippowdon. In return, Hippowdon can check threats like Sandy Shocks and Victini for them. Partners like Excadrill and Keldeo also appreciate Hippowdon luring in Rotom-W and Salamence and crippling them with Toxic to allow them to wallbreak later in the game.

With great typing and bulk, Physically Defensive Hippowdon is an effective blanket check on balance teams to many of the tiers most threatening physical attackers, such as Mega Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Iron Hands. Earthquake is a strong STAB move that threatens many of the threats foes avoid rep of the word threat Hippowdon is tasked with handling, (AC) like Victini or and Zeraora, and it pairs nicely with Toxic to force in options like Tangrowth or and Rotom-W and cripple them.
