It's much easier to check by the PID as the IVs are stored by exact IVs instead of the IV hex like the GBA/DS games are. From there you can figure out how far from the PID that you want and you can adjust accordingly.
Edit: Sometimes you might not be able to hit a certain spread either because of the anti-shiny thing or some other reason. I wasn't able to get a Zapdos w/ 31 in HP because of that even though the spread exists. D:
