Ok so here we go. HGSS are good games definitely, it's just that after you take off the nostalgia glasses, it might not be as good as you once thought.
But I never took them off, and so therefore, I've logged in 145 hours.
The first question is if you played GSC and liked them.
It's exactly why I can't do breeding RNG on DPPt worth a crap.
Breeding RNGing is easier on HGSS due to the fact you only have to worry about one NPC to synch, and not 2 or 3 like it was on DPPt. DPPt is better for captures though, because journal flips go by so much faster than clicking the radio, holding the dpad though times a million just to hit your seed.
Mostly on SoulSilver. I've done one on Platinum though.

So you would need some Spikes up.

Modest 252 Sp Attack Zapdos does 90.7% - 107.1% with Heat Wave. Mostly a OHKO with Stealth Rocks up.
Let me run some calcs.
Oh you're a wifi battler, well then I can see where your problem is. To get Heatran in, all you have to do is bring it in on any attack other then Earthquake which shouldn't be too hard. If you want a non-fire counter to it, go Zapdos or Swampert.
You can also go with a Rotom-H.
