Then why is the same verb used for moves that only get reduced damage from Protect and moves that completely ignore or break protect like Hyperspace Fury? Why not use a more accurate verb like "Ignores" or "Breaks" for moves like Hyperspace Fury?

Users are able to bypass the gender lock on Ash-Greninja by choosing normal Greninja in the teambuilder and choosing Battle Bond and Female. This prevents players from being able to recognize female Greninja as not having Battle Bond, which they should be able to do.

From Bulbapedia: "If the target has already used a move in the same turn, its Ability will be negated when it is hit by Core Enforcer." So the target has to use a move first.
