yeah, there are nice labs that are slack with the hours and stuff, and there are horrible labs that make you work 12+ hour days and weekends and shit, i've heard lots of horror stories :p thankfully ive only had experiences with the former!

also I just realized one of the people in my lab worked at walter and eliza hall or something, so that's pretty cool! :p

uhhh what do you wanna know? ask away!

i work from about 9 to 6, some other people in the lab come as early as 7 and leave at 11, and occasionally do saturdays and sundays as well, but that's cause it's an exceptionally busy period right now i think!

not gonna go into detail about what exactly i do (mostly because i'd likely embarrass myself, lmao), just gonna say that while the "big picture" of what my lab is doing is rly interesting imo, I kinda have to admit the daily work can get kinda repetitive; the omg new novel hi-tech OOOOO SHINYYYYYYYness wears off after a week or two :p

as for a career in research, idk ive been hearing lots of stuff, both positive and negative: some people say the good thing about working in biomed research is that it never really gets dull; on the other hand it kinda sucks that how successful you are in the field isn't that dependent on how much work you put in or even how smart you are, but how lucky you are lol.

plus, apparently there isn't that much of a career ladder to climb and not that many "prospects", w/e that means, idrg that myself.

a definite plus though is that there are no worries with funding and other red tape shit, at least at my lab, because the sg government is big on the whole bio/ r&d gig.
