I would recommend reading a few on site guides and viewing a few rate my team threads.

This is Pokemon Online. And yes, trades in general on Smogon are done just for the sake of competitively viable Pokemon. If you just want any general Pokemon, try using the Simple Requests thread.

If you're new to competitive Pokemon, I would try downloading Pokemon Online and playtesting a team there. That way, you can narrow down what you need to just a few Pokemon you need for a team.
