In my opinion, Power is a Currency to the Shadow, he absorbs it, deals it out to oppress and control, and uses it to sustain his life. He won't fully die, as he'll just bud up, ready to kill people in the next century...

Well the problem is, Jakob is haunted by the Shadow - the shadow wants nothing more than to make Jakob Suffer, because that will allow him to gian a lot more power in the form of phasing...
