Metagame Scarlet and Violet CAP Metagame Discussion

I think Gen 9 has a couple CAPs that need significant or minor changes to improve the state of the metagame. CAP overall is in a decent place I think, but a couple CAPs have had some real dominance recently. This slightly in response to the Power Creep thread as well; if CAPs are too good, its not unreasonable to scale them back.

:chuggalong:
I don't think the Speed nerf is going to do that much to temper the mon; if anything, it just makes it worse into Ogerpon which checking was one of the main wholesome things Chuggalong did for the builder. It has tools to dismantle most counters, making Chuggalong a situation where you run check items like Red Card, offmeta picks like HazeHawk, Tera at the right time with the right mon, or postion yourself where it can't set up on your mon. The issue I have found is the former two options can be tough on your building, and the ladder two are made inconsistent by Chuggalong's diverse pool of Tera types. It has too many good moves that make it unpredictable and also I think make its Tera type options way more versatile than it needs to be. Chuggalong doesn't always need STAB, has good STABs anyways, and cheesy tech like Taunt and Encore. We should go back to where Chuggalong started: with basically 4 viable core moves in Clangorous Soul, Surf, Sludge Bomb, and Clanging Scales. I don't think it needs the extra tech when the mandatory Substitute and Tera Blast probably give the mon enough tools to get creative. I like Chuggalong's gameplan with the main four moves it has, I think that set actually adds a good Pokemon to the meta, but the other options ruin a good thing.

:cresceidon:
The ONLY thing that keeps this mon in check is that its awkward as shit to fit on teams sometimes. Cresceidon is amazing, this is the best status spreader bar none. It Scalds you, it Twaves you, it can lower your SpA, and then uses the Attack drop, SpA Drop, or full paralysis turns to reinstate its Multiscale. Its fantastically synergistic but it also makes Cresceidon feel like a dice-roll Pokemon, where when it rolls well you lose so much and it gains three times what you just lost. Personally, I think the Encore sets are kind of cool since they have more counterplay but it still gives Cresceidon a way to handle set-up sweepers. I would remove Thunder Wave, ultimately because para hax sucks but sucks even more on a Pokemon that gets extra value when it can heal back to 100% on a full paralysis. Also guessing between Encore and Thunder Wave is annoying!

:kitsunoh:
The buff overshot, but not by that much in my opinion. Kitsunoh does a lot of good and bad simultaneously. On the one hand, you have a reliable spinblocker into Levitate Libra! On the other hand, CAP's standout removal Pokemon that made spikestack more managable now has a new spinblocker to annoy it. This by itself I think would cancel itself out and Libra can tech into it with Bulletproof, but Kitsunoh is also really good at 1v1ing Pokemon with Encore and/or Strength Sap. Encore I was iffy about but didn't go with my gut and ban the move; we should fix that now and cut Encore. Strength Sap is just a good move when the Pokemon is good, but makes Kitsunoh dominant at shutting down any slower physical attacker, often by stacking burn. Moonlight would be a more fair replacement for the move while keeping Kitsunoh's supportive gameplan intact.

:necturna:
Giving Necturna Sketch back was the right call, but the early signs of Necturna show its a pretty terrifying Pokemon. It has a lot of better set-up options, some of its BP woes of the past from lacking good Ghost STAB can be alleviated somewhat from Tera, it has a new offensive tools like Rage Fist and even Salt Cure. Its probably too early to hit Necturna with the nerf bat, but its a Pokemon we should have a continued conversation about what that nerf could look like to make sure that Necturna can keep its fun Sketch gimmick without being a pain.

:arghonaut:
Of all the CAPs, Arghonaut is the one who does the most good for the metagame while being absolutely ridiculous. A reliable and consistent Unaware user is a beautiful thing, but Arghonaut does define the metagame in a way I think is slightly unhealthy. It's winrate has been climbing as balance has shaken out and much like in Gen 8 its now the Pokemon to beat. What you are facing an Arghonaut, your gameplan truly revolves around either luring the shit out of it or finding the way to beat it down while not letting it get up too many layers or Knock too many items. It's just so efficient at what it does with its perfect moveset for its role. I think the moveset perfection is a good thing for Arghonaut, so really if we ever change anything it would be stats.

I think Venomicon feels more manageable now even if Knock Off is annoying as ever, and before Kitsunoh/Necturna buffs Equilibra was definitely too good and consistent at what it does, but with better tools against it I suspect it will be in a perfect state and continue to bring its wholesome reliability to the builder.
Hi, want to post my thoughts about this. The Kitsunoh buff + Necturna gaining Sketch has absolutely shifted the metagame in a way I honestly can't stand. Want to post my thoughts on the mons mentioned.

:chuggalong:
Very good at what it does, no doubt. It really struggles to setup but once it gets that free turn vs. something like Caribolt it's really hard to stop. It's cooverage allows it to beat a vast majority of the tier while stuff like Tera Flying buys turns vs. Equilibra and Tera Psychic muscles past Arghonaut. I think it's slightly held in check due to its 4MSS between Clangorous Soul, Stored Power, STAB / Tera Blast / Coverage, and coverage though. Removing Stored Power would probably be the best solution here, meaning Arghonaut and Mollux become solid checks.

:Kitsunoh:
I believe this overshot its buff way too much. There's a difference between, "I'm viable now. Yay!" and "I literally warp the meta by being the tier's best spinblocker, setup disruptor, and progress maker. I did not like the idea of Trace at all entering the buff process as the ability was going to have a profound effect on the meta. A mostly unhealthy effect. But since that won't be changed, removing Strength Sap would definitely be a good move. This allows Kitsunoh to still serve as a useful disruptor with Encore while severely cutting into its longevity and preventing it from stonewalling should be checks like Arghonaut.

:necturna:
Bringing back Sketch was definitely the right move, but there needs to be some bans on what can be used. Immediately ban Rage Fist. This move is just way too strong on a Mon with decent bulk, ways to weaken attacks with Will-O-Wisp, recovery with Leech Seed, and a typing that punishes a lot of common types like Water, Ground, and Electric. SpDef investment turns Equlibra to absolute Rage Fist fodder. Salt Cure could also be considered, but isn't as immediately pressing.

:Arghonaut:
Don't understand the calls that this thing is broken. It's strength mainly comes from perfect Meta conditions for it ( like the rise of Chuggalong and fall of Hemogoblin and Krilowatt) and less from being broken. It's an excellent progress maker with great utility, but it has plenty of counterplay such as Cresceidon, Gliscor, Garganacl, Snaelstrom, and more. It's not hard to Toxic this thing, which pretty much cripples it for the rest of the game. It's an excellent glue Mon that saves balance some teamslots, but not broken. Also, being Necturna fodder after Will-O-Wisp is pretty bad. I think no action.

Well, hope you enjoyed reading. Please do something about Kit and Necturna. Those Mons are so obnoxious.

I don't know how to create multiple reply chains so I have to reply like this. I'm fine with the removal of Strength Sap on Kitsunoh in exchange for a weaker recovery move like Moonlight so it can still heal itself but can't cripple physical attackers, and regarding Necturna, you can't ban Salt Cure as that would hurt Garganacl, who isn't breaking the tier with it, and banning Rage Fist would affect Primeape but I don't know CAP's stance on powerful moves being also on NFEs

Yeah, didn’t take into account Salt Cure bans effect on Garg. And I realize CAP follows OU tiering moves, so it won’t ban Rage Fist unless OU does. Honestly CAP should just have completely different tiering from OU similarly to NatDex. At this point, CAP is so different from the OU tier that following OU tiering moves doesn’t make sense. CAP also has special issues such as a strong Sketch user. Rage Fist NEEDS to be removed from Necturna. It’s not even funny. Banning Rage Fist means Annihilape can drop, which won’t effect this tier since Revenankh outclasses it.

They wouldn't unban Pokémon that are banned from regular OU. They follow whatever they do, hence why CAP banned sleep moves as well

Given that I just got eliminated from CAP Summer Seasonals, figured I'd do a teamdump.
https://pokepast.es/932c0700c77af9f2

No writeups or anything, and some teams are repeated (because I reused). Hopefully this is interesting/useful though. (W4 I loaded Hyper Cutter Gliscor, but it's fixed in the teamdump lmao)

s/o SHSP spoo Ming549 Gekokeso One Last Kiss (and anyone else that I may have forgotten) for looking over my stuff during the tour.

Had a blast playing CAPLT. I wasn’t able to qualify, but I somehow managed to play 200+ games in two weeks…. so I’m going to give my random takes on the Meta's current state. As we enter October, CAP is being overun by GHOSTS!

1. Necturna
:sv/Necturna:

This thing is incredibly hard to navigate against due to Rage Fist and is broken. While Rage Fist itself is extremely broken, Necturna’s set diversity is also just absurd. Counterplay to Rage Fist sets (A.K.A. Don’t hit it unless you do 75%) provides free setup for setup sweeper sets. Not sure about the optimal EV spreads, but here are the 4 main and very viable sets I’ve ran into on ladder.

Rage Fist
Necturna @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Forewarn
EVs: 252 HP / (4 Def Or 252 Def) / (252 SpD OR 4 Def)
Tera Type: Water / Poison
Adamant Nature ?
- Rage Fist
- Horn Leech
- Leech Seed
- Protect / Substitute

Rage Fist is too strong on a Pokemon like Necturna. Necturna has respectable 64 / 100 / 120 bulk. This Mon lives a shocking amount of hits and a key typing allows it to easily switch into all Ground types in the tier (Colossoil does not exist) and heal back up with Leech Seed while serving as a disgusting Spin-blocker. A neutrality to U-turn plus a resistance to Flip Turn and Volt Switch means Necturna absolutely punishes pivoting. On top of all of this, Necturna can switch its typing at a moment’s notice, easily providing the hits it needs to ramp up.

Rage Fist + RestTalk
Necturna @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Forewarn
EVs: 252 Atk / (4 Def Or 252 Def) / (252 SpD OR 4 Def)
Tera Type: Water
Adamant Nature ?
- Rage Fist
- Leech Seed
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

This changes courses from the usual Rage Fist set and punishes teams looking to passively beat Necturna with Will-O-Wisp, Toxic, or Knock Off and entry hazards. Sleep Talk prevents this from ever being passive, as nobody wants to get hit by a 150+ BP Ghost move.

Salt Cure
Necturna @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Forewarn
EVs: 252 Atk / (4 Def Or 252 Def) / (252 SpD OR 4 Def)
Tera Type: Ghost
Impish / Careful Nature
- Salt Cure
- Horn Leech
- Leech Seed
- Protect / Substitute

Salt Cure is another set that is very annoying. Counterplay for Rage Fist sets such as Kingambit and Snaelstrom get run over by Salt Cure + Leech Seed. This paired with Garganacl makes progress way too easily.

Setup Sweeper
Necturna @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Forewarn
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Ghost / Fire
Jolly Nature
- Victory Dance
- Power Whip / Horn Leech
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak / Stone Edge

Victory Dance Necturna benefits from the fact that oppponents always have to respect Rage Fist sets. While Victory Dance on its own isn’t too much of an issue, accounting for the other sets can easily provide Necturna a free turn of setup to get out of hand.

Neturna unfortunately has strong synergy with top walls:
:Cresceidon: Cresceidon: These two synergies ridiculously well. The two can switch into eachothers threats quite nicely, which Necturna charging up Rage Fist against Cresceidon’s threats such as Garganacl and Cresceidon using stuff like Arghonaut as a chance to heal. Cresceidon provides Necturna Thunder Wave support, which eases recovery with Leech Seed if para-hax comes to play.
:garganacl: Garganacl: Navigating between two Salt Cure users is a nightmare without Covert Cloak, since there’s little that can actually threaten both of these Pokemon at the same time. Like with Cresceidon, these Pokemon switch into eachother extremely well.
:Arghonaut: Arghonaut: Yeah. Knock Off support for a Pokemon that forces a lot of switches is insane. Arghonaut removes the pesky Covert Cloaks that opposing Arghonaut and Galarian Slowking sometime carry while providing the Spikes support it’s known for. The two also have great typing synergy for the most part.

2. Kitsunoh
:sv/kitsunoh:

Kitsunoh doesn’t have as much flexibility as Necturna, but it does what it does extremely well and possibly too well. Strength Sap lets this thing 1 v 1 threats it has no business beating such as Great Tusk, Arghonaut, and Gliscor. Trace allows Kitsunoh to switch into a lot of things. We all know its matchup into Equilibra, but it also has similar matchups into Ogerpon-W and Heatran.

Support
Kitsunoh @ Covert Cloak / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Water / Fire
Jolly Nature
- Shadow Strike
- Encore
- U-turn / Will-O-Wisp / Defog
- Strength Sap

The set itself. Kitsunoh’s Speed tier is insane, and Encore lets it punish all kinds of moves with its 3 natural immunities and whichever one it gains on the fly. Strength Sap makes this unkillable. It needs to lose that move.

Choice Band
Kitsunoh @ Choice Band
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Ghost / Fire
Jolly Nature
- Shadow Strike
- Close Combat
- Strength Sap / Ice Punch
- Trick / U-turn

I’m not a huge fan of this set, but it was used pretty commonly as a breaker that could disrupt with Trick. It sacrifices utility for power and can be way more punishing to use or face against.

3. Revenankh
:sv/Revenankh:

Revenankh has been a potent wincon as of late, especially as sets have developed in order to not let Chuggalong in for free. Balance can really struggle vs this as Tera Ghost breaks Arghonaut and Garganacl gets overwhelmed over time.

Bulk Up
Revenankh @ Spell Tag / Leftovers
Ability: Triage
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Tera Type: Ghost
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Poltergeist
- Shadow Sneak / Earthquake

Typical Revenankh set. I’ve seen Earthquake over Shadow Sneak a good bit in order to bait and beat Chuggalong (except I run Tera Flying Chuggalong a lot so I usually still setup for free).

Hope you enjoyed reading!

out of ssnl, here's what I used

:Heatran::Hydrapple::Blissey::Alomomola::Gliscor::Corviknight:stall i ripped from ou
:Blissey::Dondozo::Clodsire::Amoonguss::Corviknight::Gliscor: stall i ripped from ou. used these in early rounds, i wanted to bring stall more often but it looked poor into most of my later opponents' scouts so i pussied out
:Dragapult::Shox::Corviknight::Mollux::Great Tusk::Ogerpon-Wellspring:fine team but dont load into pdef cm tera ghost chromera and have your encore mon get paralyzed
:Dragapult::Necturna::Corviknight::Weezing-Galar::Gliscor::Garganacl: s/o Wulfanator for the nect set

:Roaring Moon::Ninetales-Alola::Hatterene::Zamazenta::Chuggalong::Iron Moth: i loaded veil a lot this tour, it's worse now that moon is gone but still pretty strong
:Ninetales-Alola::Hatterene::Chuggalong::Ursaluna::Darkrai::Iron Moth:more veil, sets are v customizable
:Zamazenta::Dragonite::Pyroak::Equilibra::Alomomola::Garganacl:building with pyroak forces you into some linear structures, i had a similar pyroak team from caplt, but i think the mon is slept on
:Darkrai::Corviknight::Kyurem::Slowking-Galar::Great Tusk::Hemogoblin:one of my favorites from this tour. bulk up hemo has lost a lot of potency as a wincon so i have really been enjoying cb lately despite being harder to build with. tera bug kyurem is great vs a lot of libra teams, nice vs argh too, tera flying works too if that's more your vibe
:Deoxys-Speed::Darkrai::Gholdengo::Zamazenta::Dragonite::Naviathan: navi is still that guy
:Skarmory::Moltres::Shox::Dragapult::Gliscor::Samurott-Hisui: was going to load this for potential g3 vs jack but didn't get the chance
:Smokomodo::Ribombee::Gholdengo::Ogerpon-Wellspring::Zamazenta::Darkrai:i had a smoko fixation this week despite it not looking very good into vuldark's scout. this team is fun though. ghold should have more bulk...
:Ninetales::Walking Wake::Slither Wing::Great Tusk::Venusaur::Cresceidon: i did not load sun but i heavily considered it. proto spa wake is the way
:Hoopa-Unbound::Snaelstrom::Great Tusk::Garganacl::Kitsunoh::Moltres: a final option i was considering this week, edit of a capcl team

rapid fire meta thoughts:
  • I am convinced smoko is viable (a low bar), very little switches into bone rush + fire stab + toxic except for gliscor, and smoko would hardly be the first mon to have trouble breaking gliscor. I think it's okay on webs as seen above but bone rush/fire stab/toxic/msun with atk and bulk evs is what I think sounds best. very good at crippling fat waters and forcing damage onto physical blanket checks like zama/tusk
  • have been beating this drum for a while but darkrai can literally run anything - boots is the best item but leftovers/life orb/sash are still strong, and beyond that, red card/helmet/wise glasses/expert belt/wide lens all have uses, moveset can be whatever too. offense especially needs some degree of surprise factor or "secret sauce" and in my experience darkrai has been one of the best avenues to get there
  • ninetales may be slept on as a sun setter? if you're running spa wake (imo best) then you are probably fine into most bulkier teams, you just need help vs offense, which ninetales does a much better job of than mala. hwish is also amazing. to be clear I think mala is still better overall
  • already mentioned but I think cb hemo deserves more use. it was one thing when everyone was running venomicon and you could just tera poison to beat it, but now its best checks can phaze or clear smog you to death. occasionally you will see some gliscor/gking fat that is really squishy into hemo, but more often you end up doing nothing vs a molt or mollux the whole game. trick lets you make active progress vs balance and cb tera fairy espeed is just a cheat code vs offense
  • sd gliscor still the hardest mon to prepare for in the tier, there's a reason why a lot of these teams have corv or skarm. I think corv especially is underrated right now, that mon is having a bit of a renaissance moment imo, ghold is so rare and you dont always need to run defog anyways
  • ting feels like a top 5 or 6 mon in the tier, maybe this sounds uncontroversial but it is still somehow only A rank
  • cresceidon should lose encore or twave, evil bastard mon

Figured I'd write a short guide on CAP mons + the metagame since there will be some new players for CAPPL. I'll add stuff when I have time, going to go through the CAP mons B+ and above, then give some metagame thoughts.

I'll probably do something like this for the rest of the CAP mons in the context of CAP UU.

:cresceidon:

CAP's premier anti-offense mon. The standard set is Twave/Scald/Moonblast/Recover with Multiscale + HDB though it has some interesting options in Encore/Taunt. Teras are usually Steel/Poison/Ghost, though you only tera this in emergencies.

Biggest weakness is that it doesn't do a lot into fatter teams. Often, it gets a Thunder Wave into Mollux/Slowking-G or a burn into Shox and gets forced out. I have been thinking about Wish sets to be better into these structures (Wish/Recover/Thunder Wave/STAB) but have not tested it much.

An alternative set is Rocky Helmet + Rough Skin. This type of set can really punish contact moves (primarily Rapid Spin). I think this fits best on HO, where it can also provide Healing Wish support. It also offers a solid switch-in to Dragapult/Kitsunoh, since it punishes U-turn and does not care much about burn, unlike Multiscale sets.

Example teams:
https://pokepast.es/683b5cb5eaae4fd0
https://pokepast.es/d0452eeccbfa6231
https://pokepast.es/6ffc16c7e9f14cae (Moon is banned but idea is there)

:arghonaut:

Broken Spikes guy. The standard set is Spikes/Knock Off/Circle Throw/Recover. MU is quite solid into most spinners in the tier (eg. Equilibra, Great Tusk, Mollux) because Knocking off HDB on these mons puts them on a timer, and Recover gives Arghonaut the ability to outlast them. Honestly, the only alternative to the standard set is slotting Foul Play over Knock Off. This lets you actually beat SD Gliscor (which will otherwise break with repeated Facades). Various Tera types are used, mostly Fairy/Dark afaik but anything to make Hemogoblin/Ogerpon-Wellspring MUs relatively neutral is good.

A very popular core with this Pokemon is Slowking-G/Arghonaut/SD Gliscor. Standard EV spread is PhysDef, which works well in this core primarily due to its ability to switch in to Great Tusk, and also working well paired with SpDef Equilibra. On some teams, where Arghonaut is your primary Equilibra/Darkrai switch-in, SpDef should be better.

Example teams:
https://pokepast.es/4d31f8e16663fd2c
https://pokepast.es/0893027c53b9e03f
https://pokepast.es/a7f977811155e816 (Rage Fist is banned but this team was broken)

:equilibra:

Broken spinner. Every set runs Doom Desire/Earth Power/Rapid Spin. Last move has flexibility between Pain Split/Protect/Flash Cannon. First two moves give a lot more longevity, while Flash Cannon pressures Gliscor and Kitsunoh harder (as well as the mirror, though usually you do not want to be stuck in an Equilibra mirror). Note that PS! setss Equilibra to 31Atk IVs due to presence of Rapid Spin, but you want to set it manually to 0IVs to let Kitsunoh heal less with Strength Sap.

Equilibra has really broken typing and stats, so it trades super well into a lot of attackers. Equilibra is really good at checking Kyurem and Darkrai, and is a temporary check to Dragapult. However, Equilibra really wants teammates to absorb Knock Off for it, eg. Shox, Snaelstrom, Clefable, Gliscor (to an extent). You also really need an answer to Ogerpon-Wellspring.

Equilibra is also a pretty solid Rapid Spin user. primarily due to its resilience to hazards. It takes minimal damage from SR and is immune to Spikes, which lets it use Leftovers for longevity. Equilibra's Rapid Spin MUs vs hazard setters and spinblockers are:
Good: :gliscor: :landorus-therian: :clefable: :ribombee: :gholdengo: :dragapult:
OK: :great tusk: :mollux: :garganacl:
Bad: :arghonaut: :ting-lu: :samurott-hisui: :araquanid: :kitsunoh: :revenankh:

Techs include Healing Wish and Trick Room. This Pokemon is so strong that it feels fine to slot it on offense.

Example teams:
https://pokepast.es/3dab6db813313287 (Only 1 standard build, since Equilibra will show up a lot in this post most likely)
https://pokepast.es/7c10609bb182e387 (DD is crucial here to pressure Gliscor)
https://pokepast.es/3160609d5b1fd364 (It's BiS on rain imo)

:hemogoblin:

Pixiespeed spam guy. Standard set is Extreme Speed/Flare Blitz/Moonlight/Bulk Up with HDB, to make it a solid revenge killer as well as a very reliable Dragapult switch-in (and generically good into other Will-o-wisp ghosts). Often 252Spe which hits 199, though I greed a lot with 60Spe to creep min Speed Equilibra. Tera Fairy is standard to extend Espeed kill range, but sometimes Tera Ground Tera Blast is used for some extra coverage into Mollux/Heatran (rare).

Alternate moveset is Choice Band. Spoo outlined the benefits of CB, basically crippling the standard checks that rely on HDB (Moltres, Mollux) and having more immediate power into offense. CB is always Extreme Speed/Flare Blitz/Trick, last move can be Explosion/Spikes/BU/Moonlight depending on preference. A bit hard to fit on teams though, as HO has difficulties pivoting it out after getting a kill, and it needs hazard removal so can't fit on boots-spam.

Example teams:
https://pokepast.es/208efa5f171b122b (Balance)
ngl I don't have a lot of good Hemo teams for some reason.
https://pokepast.es/b34db964107d51ef (RIP Gouging Fire...)

:kitsunoh:

The ultimate Equilibra bully, due to its ability to block Rapid Spin and dodge Earth Power by tracing Levitate. Standard set is Will-o-wisp/Strength Sap/U-turn/Shadow Strike, which is quite solid at making progress into offense and has solid longevity (trolls Zama forever even if Tera Fire). It has a very wide offensive movepool (CC, Knock, Poltergeist, Ice Punch) but post-nerf offensive sets are not nearly as potent. Knock is notable because it punishes Fire-types that want to switch in on Wisp (Hemo, Moltres, Mollux) and Garg.

Since it's a solid spinblocker into the most common spinner, it is most commonly seen on Spikes-stack balance teams (very good Arghonaut teammate).

Alternate moveset is Choice Band but it is definitely bad atm. I'd expect it to be ~1% of players coping from pre-nerf. I know post-buff, CB Poltergeist 2HKO'd PhysDef Moltres but at this point I think it doesn't (also underspeeding Darkrai/Weavile/Cresceidon etc. kinda ruins the set).

Example teams:

https://pokepast.es/6cb2d2c9f814ffe4
https://pokepast.es/40b702b8c4a5c534

:revenankh:
Revenankh is a powerful set-up sweeper that matches up well into opposing offense. The standard set is Moonlight/Drain Punch/Shadow Claw/Moonlight. Generally runs 252Atk with Adamant Nature, Speed is optional, usually investing in HP/SpDef is the best (84Spe outspeeds min Speed Arghonaut, which is useful if you are using Poltergeist + Spell Tag since it allows for 2HKO, but that is not the most common set). Revenankh generally has some flexibility in item; Leftovers is of course powerful, and HDB allows for more free switch-ins. It is very likely that Revenankh is knocked over the course of the game so item is not super important. Tera Ghost is alright if you are using Shadow Sneak, but Tera Fire/Poison are solid for Fairy resist + status resistance. Tera Fairy is of course generically good.

Revenankh is very good at dismantling offense teams, due to its powerful priority Fighting move and trading ability. It also fits quite well on offense teams, by being a foolproof answer to Zamazenta. Revenankh can also act as a spinblocker, boasting a reasonablle MU into both Great Tusk and Equilibra thanks to its considerable mixed bulk and access to recovery. Revenankh is vulnerable to status, however, and requires Tera to muscle past Moltres/Dragapult/etc. It also has a difficult time against fairies without Tera, though Tera Fire can flip those MUs hard in Revenankh's favor. Arghonaut is Rev's biggest stop, due to Rev''s low bast Attack; you will need to play patiently around it, especially if you are not HDB.

Alternate moves include Poltergeist, Shadow Sneak, Earthquake, Knock Off. Rarely, this Pokemon can use Glare. These options are generally less consistent than the standard set. CB is also an option for nuclear Poltergeists, but that is not as consistent and sacrifices longevity that Revenankh wants to spinblock over a long game. Note that Poltergeist + Drain Punch is hard-walled by Chuggalong.

:mollux:

Mollux is a powerful defensive Pokemon with a unique Fire/Poison typing and Water immunity provided by Dry Skin. This gives it a niche as a Hemogoblin counter, Ogerpon-Wellspring check, and solid defensive pivot. The standard set is (SR or Rapid Spin)/Lava Plume/Clear Smog/Recover. Mollux can either lean into SpDef to better answer Gholdengo/Darkrai/etc. or PhysDef for Ogerpon-W, Samu-H, Hemogoblin.Note that Knock Off is very annoying for this Pokemon, as is random Ground coverage (Tantrum on Oger, Tera Blast Ground on Iron Moth/Hemogoblin).

SR Mollux is decent since, although it can't stay in against Great Tusk or Equilibra, they do not want to switch in on a potential Lava Plume. Rapid Spin Mollux has an interesting MU spread in that it loses to every hazard setter, but beats most spinblockers. This makes the play pattern a bit different, and
Good:

:araquanid:
:gholdengo:
:revenankh:

:samurott-hisui:

Bad:
:arghonaut:
:ting-lu:
:landorus-therian:

:garganacl:

Alternatively, Mollux can use Sludge Bomb over Clear Smog to push more progress. You can also run Scarf + Eruption (hilarious) or CM if you don't need SR/spin utility. Mollux also has Thunder Wave (not bad), Toxic (kinda bad), or Will-o-Wisp (Just use Plume...) as status options but these are definitely fake..,

[WIP below]

:chuggalong:

Chuggalong is a HO sweeper whose primary draw is priority immunity. The standard set is Clangorous Soul with 3 of Surf, Clanging Scales, Sludge Bomb, Stored Power. Common Teras include Psychic (to guarantee Stored Power OHKO on Argh) or Tera Water (to get Surf kill on Equilibra).

Chuggalong is a straightforward HO sweeper, so it goes on HO. It pressures a lot of teams that rely on priority (eg. Hemogoblin) to revenge-kill sweepers. It is otherwise relatively average, with relatively average defensive/offensive typing and stats.

Occasionally this Pokemon will see play with Choice Specs/Choice Scarf, but I think this is largely irrelevant after the Speed nerf.

:krilowatt:

Krilowatt is an offensive pivot with below-average offensive stats but above-average bulk and strong coverage. The standard set is Surf/Ice Beam/Volt Switch/Thunderbolt. Tera type is usually an offensive one (Electric or Water) but defensive ones like Steel or Fairy may be used as well. Tera Blast Fairy saw some use to snipe Roaring Moon, but I don't think it is worth giving up coverage at base currently. It also gets Earth Power to snipe Mollux and deal more chip to Slowking-G, but it is hard to give up any moves on its primary set.

Krilowatt is largely unable to OHKO any Pokemon, but can usually 2HKO with appropriate coverage. Thus, it needs time to chip the opposing team down, making Spikes-stack teams the obvious fit for it. Krilowatt is a powerful tool for Spikes teams in the mirror, due to the momentum it generates and its immunity to Spikes damage. The general play pattern with Krilowatt is to spam Volt Switch throughout the game, and threaten to trade with key threats utilizing Krilowatt's above-average bulk. Against teams with SpDef Ground types (Equilibra, Ting-Lu), Krilowatt will be more pressured to hard-switch or click Surf, which can be annoying.

An additional tech is Heart Swap. This allows Krilowatt to muscle past CM sweepers like Clefable or Hatterene, steal boosts from SD Gliscor, or occasionally snipe Chuggalong omniboost. For this set, I like going mixed with Liquidation, since Krilowatt appreciates the ability to pressure Slowking-G when it is unable to do so by Volt Switching.

:miasmaw:

Miasmaw is an HO sweeper whose primary draw is muscling past Unawares.

Do not use Rapid Spin on this Pokemon

:venomicon:
Fake Pokemon, do not use.
