Tie Rules
Battle ties do not progress either player towards winning the match.

General Tournament Rules:
  • Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  • Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  • Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Let’s do it tonight then I can play from the hospital. Plus u mentioned Friday and after works too and we had scheduled for Monday and you told me you cannot make it which isn’t fair at all. @ hosts to reconsider this because I catered his request of not being able to play Monday as we scheduled and this guy can’t do the same for me today even tho he asked Friday and after initially. However I will be online tonight and I can get this done on my phone

Imagine being a fucking asshole for the.. "ORAS OU Winter Seasonal 7"? Dude are you seriously trying to fish act unfairly against someone who's having a rough time but still tries to be accomodating? Throwing away any kind of honor you might have for a motherfucking mickey mouse tour that doesn't even give cash let alone reward any pixels?? Nahhh I cant with those dumbasses LOL get the fuck out of this website or at least try not to be a fucking asshole and embarass yourself

As if it wasn't clear, rooting for my bro Devin to deck the humongous Bangladesh Premier League Season 9 Champion "Amaske" in the jimmies.

So just to get this straight. First when smthing came up for you, you guys moved it. Then something came up for Devin, and you won't agree to move it? Am I missing something?? Also, if we play your game, Devin is actually the one who can claim activity for that first time you scheduled, no?
Ye devin could have called the act but he didnt but now when devin had some problems and had to reschedule but now the oppo just says he can only play tonight (when he said he was also free other days then thursday before)

I'm all for act calls cause I hate it when ppl waste another persons time and just expect to get away with it but this is ridiciulous.

Unfortunate things happenrd on both sides my ass.
Next time spare yourself some breath and time and just post the act request instead of yapping.

If I were you I'd smash all my mirrors cause I wouldn't be able to look at my own face after pulling shit like this.

I think (really, really hope) he gets it at this point. I appreciate good social policing, but the dogpile is large enough now.

You two should play the game at a time comfortable for you both. If you need help finding that, let me know. We don’t need to bend over backwards or interfere with major IRL events. And we certainly don’t need an otherwise good tournament marred by a Tuesday activity call when there’s clearly an overwhelming amount of outside circumstance swaying things.

Amaske, I am really sorry you have to attend a funeral. My condolences — that is way bigger than this tournament and my heart goes out. I think you gotta take a step back and then try to find a way to get this done in the near future instead of rn. It’s for the best of everyone. Good job making it this far and let’s keep in mind that Devin is also in a rough spot with an awful lot going on. He is a competitor who wants to play and can be plenty reasonable. Hope you have better days ahead.

Hi, don't normally do this, but given the context, stage of the tournament, timeframe, surrounding information and conferring with other TDs, I wanted to inform you as the host and as a tournament director that this activity win request would not be granted come the end of the round. Get the game done.

I think we should look into more explicitly codifying the rules for the circumstance under which a player is or is not entitled to a reschedule upon asking for one so we can avoid things like this in the future. As it stands, this was all I could find concerning the topic, from the Tournament Scheduling Guidelines:
"It's generally encouraged to reschedule, but if you're not able to find a time to play later on in the round and you've done everything right to this point, you'll likely be given the activity win."

I agree with the host's decision here. Judging what I can from Amaske's screenshots, devin asked for the reschedule roughly 2 hours before game time on Tuesday. But would devin still be owed a reschedule if it was say, 20 minutes before on Saturday with Amaske saying he can't do Sunday? Should there be different standards for rescheduling between individual and team tours like we have for act claims? I think putting rules down in writing would help to close the loophole tighter on people who try to act fish like this.

I caught up with everything and…

It's ironic that someone who supposedly had health issues and was in the hospital at the time still had the energy to visit multiple Discord servers, gathering people to spread hate on a website. While I don't have all the logs to prove it—and those messages may have been deleted by now—people are aware of what happened.

"Reasonable?" You’re kidding me. If they were truly reasonable, they could have resolved this like adults through discussion rather than initiating a hate campaign.

While others on this website might have abundant free time, I don't. I value the time I invested in preparing for the game and waiting for my opponent. The fact that I requested a reschedule 14 hours before the game isn't a valid excuse—I knew Devin had every right to deny it, and here's the kicker: even with a funeral to attend, I would have made it to the game. But I, as a precaution, chose to ask my opponent—like civilized men—if they were willing to reschedule, providing all the reasons why. And if they had denied and I couldn't have made it to the game, I certainly wouldn't have rallied people against my opponent. I would have accepted the loss gracefully, understanding that life's unfortunate events take priority over a seasonal game, final or not.

I am not a robot without emotions, but I am also not stupid enough to let an effortless win slide—and I certainly am here to WIN! Everyone is. The difference is that I’m not trying to live in a fake illusion or pretend to be a goody two-shoes. I am a straightforward guy who works with reason over anything else. Furthermore, why wouldn't I act within the rules of activity calls when I have no idea what my opponent is doing? They never explained why they wanted to reschedule (2 hours before the game btw), at least not before 45 minutes after game time when I had already gone offline because it was already past midnight for me—how was I supposed to know about hospital visits or personal difficulties? If they had simply communicated with me, we could have resolved this easily (and yes, they have my sincere empathy). Nobody knows another person’s schedule or life circumstances. Perhaps some can fit an SPL game into a 15-minute window, but not everyone can. We all have priorities and commitments that can't be pushed aside for a Smogon game.

People calling a completely valid activity call unethical and unsportsmanlike and hate-shaming are probably the most hypocritical out here. What do you do when your opponent clearly played better than you and deserves the win more, but loses to a lucky critical hit or a flinch on the final turn? Do you forfeit the game and show sportsmanship? No—you take the win without giving it a second thought. Do you call that unsportsmanlike? No, it is to be understood by both parties that uncertainties like these are part of the game. Similarly, life is filled with uncertainties, and maybe you should accept that instead of trying to bend others according to your will.

Talk about Tuesday activity calls—what happened to everyone when Avarice acted Watashi on a Monday despite having availability throughout the week (definitely more than me)? Did you not find that unsportsmanlike? Or do you cover it up with “it not being a FINALS GAME”? Maybe the real reason is that Watashi didn’t gather his goons to hate-shame his opponent.

And since when did Smogon’s decisions start getting affected by 12 people rallying in an utterly shameful manner? I thought we followed rules and procedures. And as far as the rules are concerned, the act call is valid. And what happened to moderation? Why am I getting tagged a dozen times in a tournament thread by people who have nothing to do with it in the first place? Whatever it is, it’s between me, my opponent, and the host. Don’t get me wrong—I am not against people raising their voices against what they feel is wrong, but not in the manner that was done here.

You’re lucky it’s me as the victim—a person who doesn’t give two cents about what 12 dumb people on a website have to say. Someone else could’ve easily been threatened off the site and all these people would get away with it. But who am I kidding, right? Me typing this is not going to change their minds. I can’t wait to be tagged another 12 times to be hated on.

Anyway, since it's the host's decision, we will reschedule to a time comfortable for both of us and play the games. I know that if I lose this, I’ll become a target of more hate and ridicule—but if I let a dozen randoms online get under my skin, I would’ve never started a YouTube channel.

But if I win… well, you know.

Why would I explain to some stranger online why I was at the hospital? If someone accommodated you, you accommodate them, it’s called basic humanity, instead you chose to be an asshole. Also I didn’t get anyone btw, I just showed my friends that I am currently at the hospital going through stuff and this is what some head ass is doing. So many other people flocked in because they saw how unfair is this. I am glad that people can see this unfair bullshit that u were trying to pull in a random stupid tour. This is not how you will ever go far on this site.

We will play and get this game done now. I will lyk when I can play

Hey, I’m not sure what the issue is—just go ahead and play the match. If you win, great—you can take pride in your performance and prove any doubters wrong (though to be fair, no one really has any personal issue with you; most of the frustration has been about perceived unsportsmanlike behavior). People generally don’t mind if someone claims an activity in a reasonable context, but it starts to look bad when it’s used against someone who hasn’t done the same.

Delays happen all the time in tournaments, and extensions can be requested—there’s nothing unusual about that. But if you’re genuinely unavailable for the entire week except for one narrow time slot, maybe it’s worth reconsidering your commitment to the event. Pokémon, especially at the competitive level, is a time-intensive game, and sometimes making time—even a few minutes each day—requires small sacrifices.

Given that this is the final match of a long-running tournament, there’s a shared responsibility between both players to make it happen and give the community the match they've been waiting for. Devin made an effort to reschedule for you, and it would only be fair to return the gesture.

Also, just to clear up a misconception—Devin didn’t rally people to his side. This is the finals of an OU tournament, which naturally draws attention. People tend to speak up when something controversial happens, and in this case, it seems like most of the criticism is stemming from how the scheduling has played out.

It honestly feels like you’re hesitant to play because you’re worried about the outcome. But you've already made it to the finals—that’s an impressive achievement in itself. Don’t let it be overshadowed by controversy. If you win, let it be because of your skill. And if you lose, at least it’ll be with integrity.
