after a lot of waiting (one month), i, with permission from sluGGy, bring to you week 6 of Magic Matchmaking;

Round 6: Mega Diancie
diancie-mega.png

Diancie-Mega @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Protect
- Earth Power
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm

Mega Diancie is one of OU's premier mega Pokemon boasting incredible offenses that allow it to rip through common bulky offense structures. It boasts a sky high base 160 Attack and Apecial Attack that allow it to chunk even resists making it difficult to switch into and effectively check. With just its STABs and Earth Power, Mega Diancie is able to do massive damage throughout the game often picking up one or two KOs while also leaving harsh damage on the Pokemon that manage to survive its onslaught. In addition to this fantastic offense, Mega Diancie also shares one of the 'golden' speed-tiers of base 110 tying with common Pokemon such as Mega Metagross as well as the Lati twins while outspeeding the majority of the tier. Lastly, Mega Diancie's ability allows it to play somewhat aggressively by coming in on predicted status moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Glare allowing it to make use of the free turn afforded by blocking the status to fire off massive attacks. However despite this fantastic offensive prowess, Mega Diancie suffers from being quite frail when facing even neutral attacks, thus limiting its ability to consistently switch in throughout the game. In addition to this, Diancie's low HP means it's much more wary when coming into hazards since it is working with a much lower HP stat than most that is incredibly important due to its useful resistances in Dark and Fire.

Regardless of these flaws, Mega Diancie still finds itself amongst the top brass of both offensive Pokemon as well as mega Pokemon in the tier. What partners do you think can take advantage of Mega Diancie's traits?

serperior.gif

Serperior @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 200 HP / 44 Def / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Rock]
- Glare
- Rest

Serperior is great into Water-types that otherwise threaten Mega Diancie such as Rotom-W since it both resists their Water-type STAB and uses them to grab free Leaf Storm boosts. Serperior can beat one of Mega Diancie's biggest checks in Ferrothorn by luring it in and taking it out with a boosted Hidden Power Fire.
Resto Chesto allows Serp to also act as a pseudo status absorber by eating Scald burns from the afformentioned Water-types while Glare let's Serperior paralyse faster Pokemon and would be checks such as Mega Metagross and Mega Alakazam making it harder for them to stop Mega Diancie from breaking. Serperior also has a relatively high base speed of 113 that let's it outrun and beat other checks to Mega Diancie such as Mega Metagross with boosts from Leaf Storm coupled with Hidden Power Fire
Aside from the support Serperior provides Mega Diancie, Mega Diancie also helps Serperior by providing a fire resist and check to Heatran who otherwise completely walls Serperior.

M-Dia loses to steel types like ferrothorn and m-scizor. Here is your answer :

:bw/magnezone:

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
Hidden Power: Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Magnet pull deals with steel types that cause a problem to m-diancie. It helps to chip down certain steel types like mmeta or excadrill to get it in range of m-diancie's earth power. It is a quad steel resist too, while offering a bit more speed control and helping with faster pokemon like serperior/adamant talonflame. It also chips down water types like manaphy that could live a moonblast from diancie and rko with stab moves.

Zapdos @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 28 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Hidden Power Ice/Toxic

Zapdos hard walls all the steels and grounds that want to try and absorb Mega Diancie attack. hp ice for the more offensive grounds is an option or toxic for the bulky grounds that can shrug off an hp ice. It can gain momentum for its team mate with volt switch bringing in mega diancie safely and absorbing attacks for mega diancie

Dragonite @ Life Orb
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Roost / Fire Punch / Extreme Speed

When people think about Diancie's counters, a lot of the time they think solely about steel types or flying types, and while both of those types are quite strong against it, there's also the issue of ground, grass and water types beating it. Dragonite is a mon that is resistant/immune to every type Diancie is weak against except steel, and it's one that gains a major benefit from being paired with it, namely that nobody ever clicks a status move vs. Diancie (besides maybe Air Balloon drill). This means Dragonite can forgo Lum Berry for the stronger damage output from Life Orb. This way, Dragonite can switch in on telegraphed ground type and water type moves, dragon dance on the switch and mash all over the opponents team.

kyurem-black.gif

Kyurem-Black @ Assault Vest
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 168 HP / 148 Atk / 24 Def / 4 SpD / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Iron Head
- Outrage

As for what Kyurem-Black actually does for Diancie, the two share similar checks in Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Gastrodon. There is significant set variability between the two, allowing either to serve as a lure. Ex: HP Fire Diancie can inflict massive damage to the former two while a physically based Kyurem-Black tears into the SpDef Gastrodon that might think to check Diancie. I linked a physical Assault Vest variant from BluBirD here, but do know that a specially based AV set also works.

Typing wise, Diancie also enjoys the water/grass resists afforded by Kyurem's Dragon typing, something that allows it to switch into threats that Diancie can't handle, most notably Serperior. Kyurem is also capable of threatening out the grasses / grounds that might check Diancie, such as Amoongus, Venusaur-Mega, and Hippowdon. In exchange, Diancie offers an excellent speed tier that forces out threats like Keldeo. Finally, Kyurem enjoys Magic Bounce to help block hazards, allowing it to trade better, something made more pointed when carrying an Assault Vest.

you probably want to run mixed/inner focus tho, lorb breaks multi

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave / Superpower / Hidden Power Ice
- Knock Off
- U-turn

AV Torn T is a fast pivot that can take hits from Serperior, Latios, and Keldeo while also threatening back with Hurricane. Heat Wave allows Mega Torn T to threaten Mega Metagross and Mega Scizor. Knock Off allows Torn T to cripple Clefable, Chansey,Heatran, and Rotom-W which allows you to wear them down easier. Superpower and Hidden Power Ice can be used if Excadrill+Heatran and Gliscor are huge issues.

If you really want to, you can opt for the wallbreaking set but I like the AV set more and it fits easier on teams.

We're back at it again!!!

Round 7: Diggersby
:sv/diggersby:
Diggersby @ Any & All!
Ability: That's right!
EVs: 252 ANY / 4 & / 252 ALL!
For this Round
- I won't be restricting
- The nominated
- Pokémon's
- Moveset!
As stated in the selected moveset for Diggersby, any and all movesets are permitted. This time, there will no restriction! So let's freshen things up a bit. (But no meme or unserious sets, please. Let's keep it civil.)

Keeping it short: Thanks to its ability, and access to Swords Dance, Diggersby is able to rip teams wide open. Its Normal/Ground stabs are completly unrestisted by the whole metagame, to the exception of Skarmory, which gets blown away by a boosted Fire Punch. Quick Attack enables its role as a lategame cleaner, finish off the teams it itself massacred. Earthquake allows it to avoid contact ability/items, extending its lifespan just a bit further. And finally, its typing, paired with Assault Vest, turns it into the ultimate trading machine, and a usable special sponge; walling Zapdos, as Hidden Power Ice's damage is negligible. Now then, who will you find worthy of accompanying the murderous rabbit's rampage?

Deadline: 5.11. 2025, 23:59 -4 GMT.

P.S.
- I'll work on the voting slate for the previous two rounds shortly after posting this (or tomorrow, most likely). So stay tuned in for that! I'm aware that this will turn the thread into a bit of a (giga)shitshow, but once those two are out, everything should continue on as normal. After that, the thread should look neat once again.

Edit: Meant for the deadline to be on the 11th. My bad. So get to it!

:keldeo: HORSE :keldeo: SEASON :keldeo: HORSE :keldeo: SEASON :keldeo:

:bw/keldeo:
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Focus Blast / Icy Wind

Keldeo really appreciates Diggersby's ability to trade vs the Electric- and Grass-type Pokemon that threaten it like Thundurus, Serperior and Mega Venusaur. Assault Vest variants of Diggersby are able to pull this role off quite well as the added Special Defense investment allows it to eat a Focus Blast from Thundurus or a Leaf Storm from Serperior and smack them with the powerful combo of Huge Power Return + Quick Attack. Swords Dance variants on the other hand give up the ability to trade vs these faster more offensive threats in exchange for smashing through the gorilla that is Mega Venusaur thus opening up Keldeo to piece up fat teams with relative ease.
Keldeo on the other hand is able to aid Diggersby by taking advantage of the physical checks that come into it such as Tank Garchomp, Landorus-T, etc. and use those opportunities to fire off the ever broken Scald.

Lopunny-Mega @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Frustration
- Quick Attack

Lopunny is an exceptional cleaner that struggles versus select checks like Slowbro, Landorus-Therian, and Clefable. I find that an offensive Diggersby, namely the SD and CB variants, proves to be an unorthodox partner for it. Normal Spam from the two allows for them to break apart structures on different sides of the offensive-defensive spectrum. As an added benefit, the two both possess powerful priority moves that allow them to clean up offense, a quality that is exacerbated through hazard damage (spikes ^-^) and other chip. Finally, so as to maximize the synergy between the two, it is best to use this pairing on Easter...

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Zen Headbutt
- Brick Break
- Thunder Punch / Ice Punch
- Bullet Punch

More offensively-oriented Diggersby sets (specifically CB / LO / Silk Scarf) just annihilate Mega-Metagross's usual counters. Fire Punch owns Mega-Scizor, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn, while SD or item-boosted Returns will cave in even physically defensive behemoths like Tangrowth and Hippowdon. Add in EQ and it can also avoid RH chip from Pokemon like Slowbro as well. Diggersby defensively complements Mega-Metagross by acting as an emergency Ground-type pivot against Pokemon like Thundurus-I and Zapdos, and can potentially go for last-ditch chip attempts against them with QA / Return, respectively. Sets like AV can also attempt trades or major chip against the aforementioned Electric-types and Serperior, which can then be picked off by Mega-Metagross.

Nothing can really wall Diggersby, but it is always at risk of getting overwhelmed by faster Pokemon like Serperior and Manaphy; here Mega-Metagross can use its unique combination of typing, bulk, and movepool to either pivot on, pressure, or outright trade with these faster threats. Even when it cannot outright KO opposing Pokemon in time, it often will leave them sufficiently weakened that Diggersby's QA (especially Silk Scarf / LO sets) will render them a non-factor for it. Mega-Metagross's access to Brick Break also allows it to disrupt Screens HO teams, where Diggersby is much less effective due to its lower Speed tier and neutered QA power.

1747328896172.png

Thundurus @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power Ice
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch / Thunderbolt

Prankster Thunder Wave allows Thundurus to cripple opposing fast threats such as Serperior, Weavile, Talonflame, and Mega Metagross. Thundurus's Volt Switch allows it to threaten Diggersby checks like Slowbro and Skarmory while taking advantage of switches to Chansey and Clefable. Focus Blast allows Thundurus to weaken Kyurem-B, Excadrill, and Ferrothorn which threatens this core.
