OU DPP OU Teambuilding Competition

A new teambuilding competition theme has dropped! This time, it's Gengar! With no restrictions on the set or team members, you can submit any OU team so long as it contains this Pokemon.

Since this theme has been submitted later than normal (my fault this time), I'm extending the deadline to Saturday the 7th of June, at 11:00 pm GMT.

As usual, the winner of this competition gets to choose the next theme.
Once it's announced you win the competition, comment your choice in a new post with the new theme at the top of the message.

There are some rules as to what you are able to pick.
- For every odd teambuilding competition, you can pick any pokemon from the top 30 of the VR (link).
- For every even teambuilding competition, you can pick anything you want with no restrictions.

These rules are in place to ensure that we don’t get too many difficult mons to build with in a row, which has caused inactivity in the past.

You can also choose a set or a theme to build with instead of a pokemon. E.g., Build with banded tyranitar, or build with water spam. You can choose more difficult themes if you wish, but please exercise discretion.

Once picked, your choice can't be changed, so bear that in mind.

Submissions are open now, and will close on Saturday June 7, at 11:00 pm GMT. From there we'll move onto voting, which will most likely close on Saturday June 14 at 11:00 pm GMT.
Happy building :)

I built this team in a short time, having tested my fav Pokémon in different ways over the years

This team was born from one of my all-time favorite cores: Gengar + Magnezone

Dacty sets the sr, if there is a locked steel Zone kills it, Breloom and Swampert take advantage of the sr, Gengar takes advantage of the absence of the steel and Tyraniboah cleans.

Team i made for a friend for dpppl, didn't end up being used, put hazards, spinblock, makes holes and abuse them with sweepers, magneton scarf supports well no explosion metagross and band flygon, why also helping in ho vs dd gyara and dd tar, your bulky mons (aka metagross, and gon) makes it kinda hard for ddtar to finish u even without mag, be careful though in the mu).

there is a lot going on here but the basic idea is that wisp gengar softens the opposing team for dnite and suicune to win.
then double fire because it is very threatening and doesn't let rachi back to full easily, sub salac tran is supposed to act like a pseudoape and magma ep dark pulse is very scary behind a sub.
finally max hp custap tar to set up rocks more consistently and get an attack before going down.
team is not easy to play but when it works its beautiful.

I tried using a bulky gar with rest/knock/seismic toss/shadow ball at first, but it was hard to get a good team with it. Instead, built an HO designed around baiting steels/scarf tar early game with scarf jynx, colbur gar, and magneton so that the dd sweepers can break through. Scarf jynx (https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/dpp-ou-creative-and-underrated-sets.3663647/post-9126929) is a great tech that's surprisingly consistent. The game plan for its lead matchups is written above. The gar set is designed to lure scarf tar. The intended line of play is to switch in on something it threatens, then knock on the tar switch. With colbur, you have 2 chances to land focus blast, and since the special attack always guarantees a kill, with hit chances its a 91% chance to hit at least 1 of the blasts. The knock also can catch one of the steel/psychics, or sometimes heatran, all of which can be taken advantage of by one of the sweepers in the back. Taunt last is nice if you knock a lum on tar and suspect a dd set, or taunting skarm almost guarantees a mag trap, or taunting tran gives a good gyar switch if rocks arent up. Mag here has great synergy with jynx, with it either sleeping or tricking a steel, then mag traps it. HP fire is to trap scizor, since LO and CB variants are a pain for this team. Meta here is using a standard bulky iron ball set, because the team needs a rocker and a good switch into lati ideally in 1 slot. Gyarados has outrage to blow up defensive latias, and is also the best click into bulky waters like suicune and milotic. Stone edge is to blow up opposing gyarados, and also give great damage into zapdos who is quite the problem once meta goes down. The defense is to live 2 lucario espeeds after sand chip. Gyar on its own is more meant to clean up after dnite does major damage with LO boosted outrages. Jolly on there is a cool tech to punish opposing scarf mag and LO makes up for the power drop of not using adamant.

Decided to try Scarf Gengar out this week. I remember it being a thing at some point but I don't remember when, maybe when Deoxys-Speed was still OU cause I remember that running Kasib Berry sometimes. Might've been for opposing Deoxys though... Anyway, here's what I came up with:

:suicune::gengar::bronzong::flygon::latias::swampert:
https://pokepast.es/1d03bd4bc5493c4e

I originally had Specs Rotom over Bronzong but I realized I had 0 steel types lol, so I swapped it with a Bronzong. Offensive Latias is still a nightmare to this, so just try to not face one. The idea is for Latias to and Suicune to help weaken the specially defensive stuff that usually stop Gengar so Gengar can come in late and clean what's left. I gotta say, Scarf Gengar is not very good because it's not that strong and very fragile but the speed and typing can be handy sometimes. I played for a bit with it and didn't see Gengar doing much with this set except these two games:

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen4ou-2377667962-y8e94lbavwg79j89o9768loc8b8sfn8pw
Not much here other than being faster than a presumably Scarf Rotom.

Here it ensured I was faster than the opposing Gengar and then Tricked its Scarf to help Latias win, though it come down to a double Protect. I probably messed up at the end but it was a great game nonetheless.

I posted a team earlier with 4 taunt uses but it got absolutely smashed by Gyarados, and if you cant beat em, join em.
I replaced Tyranitar for Gyarados for a Dragon Dance Taunt user.
---

For this week’s team, I decided to use Taunt Gengar and pair it with a bunch of other Taunt users. With so many Taunt users, we can often prevent Stealth Rock from being set up and apply pressure to bulky mons that rely on non-attacking moves.

Lead Taunt + Stealth Rock + U-turn Gliscor can help you set up rocks, prevent your opponent’s rocks, and maintain momentum.

Custap Gengar can surprise scarfers and explode on walls, creating openings for Taunt Dragon Dance Gyarados.

Heatran is the final Taunt user, capable of 1v1ing threats like Clefable.

Scizor runs a set I heard about in BKC’s DPPt tier list video, allowing it to take special hits, Knock Off items, and Roost up. U-turn also helps maintain momentum.

Finally, Choice Scarf Latias with Thunderbolt lets us hit Water-types and provides a fast revenge killer.

Since it is an even numbered competition, the next theme can be any pokemon with no restrictions, and will be chosen by Dridri as a reward for winning the last competition. If they don’t want to choose, or don’t choose by 17/06/25, then I’ll post a theme by 18/06/25 (GMT).
Once it's announced you win the competition, comment your choice in a new post with the new theme at the top of the message.

Edit: I really struggled to think of what to build around, I thought about magmortar first but I’d want to make use of its flame body ability which is very hard due to it being rocks weak and having a low def stat. I next thought maybe I could use ariados as a toxic spikes lead but I’m not sure it really fits the pace t spikes teams want to play at. Slowking crossed my mind as an offensive trick room sweeper but I had trouble thinking of ways to circumvent scizor and tar. I saw Ampharos and figured it could work similarly to a bulky Zapdos. it kinda sucks vs earthquake but can live non boosted ones from various threats and ko back you can also magnet rise on hippo and pert if need be. Heal bell is nice vs status and it is a decent switch in to some jirachi sets punishing contact with a potential static para. I think this team can struggle vs fire types honestly so I might change it maybe occa on bronzong not sure honestly, I did give bronzong 8 speed IVs to outspeed a paralysed heatran but maybe that is being to hopeful.
