Project RarelyUsed Teambuilding Competition: Week Thirteen- Ground-types

Thief Chansey... HO?

:chansey::crawdaunt::bisharp::salamence::armarouge::maushold:

the idea is simple
leads are overrated
healing wish is cool
chansey can steal an item and spread para and then hwish (very useful)

:sv/chansey:
click twave click hwish maybe thief or rocks before that and uuh that's it

:sv/crawdaunt:
since we don't have a hazards lead i decided to go the sash craw route, it can work as an anti lead and a great early game progress maker, we will add hazard support down the line to keep it's sash useful throughout the game

:sv/bisharp:
what's scarier than facing one bisharp? 2 bisharps, loves healing wish, kills people, comes with a lot of utility with it's bulk, revenge killing prowess etc etc, an obvious choice for this team

:sv/salamence:
probably the biggest win con of the team, it likes healing wish cuz of it's great bulk and snowball potential, kinda kills everything, this set even kills weez-g! second mon weak to hazard tho

:sv/armarouge:
armarouge
does armarouge stuff
weak 2 hazard

:sv/maushold:
aforementioned hazard control, great progress maker, notably against gweez which it can heavily cripple, helping mence, as for most mons not a lot to say, we all know what maus does

explanations may be a bit shallow but like, it's HO + hwish chansey everything is very classic, and it's not like Chansey, the special mon of the team has a complex game plan either, anyways it was funny to make and i was yet again able to make the team comp about HO

Deoxys Defense Stall
:chansey: :quagsire: :muk alola: :chesnaught: :weezing galar: :deoxys defense:

Since non of yall decided to make unique chansey teams (besides the two that already submitted thank you both of you), here is my submission. This is a pretty standard stall team. Only unique part is that chansey has shadow ball to deal with the ghosts due to deo-d having rocks on it. Cosmic power on deo-d makes it a good wincon, while allowing it to answer setup threats in a pinch. Everything else is pretty standard tbh.

Voting for Week 10 is live. Please nominate ONE team before the deadline of Sunday, June 15th at 9am GMT +0.

My vote goes to Keylimpancakes. A solid offense team ngl, not much more to say.

:sv/weezing galar: Week 11 Galarian Weezing :sv/weezing galar:
1749988847280.png

Technically this has been done before in a previous teambuilding week, but since we are probably never getting this mon back, I thought it would be a good idea to send one last hooray.
Geezing is a powerful defensive Pokemon rn, with its ability to softcheck a large portion of the physical metagame while acting as one of the best hazard removal options in the tier. Geezing's bread and butter set is a set of will-o-wisp, strange steam, pain split, and defog. This set is definetely very good, but does have passivity issues against Pokemon such as Gyarados and Tera Fire mons.
However, geezing does have a lot of options at its disposal if it decides to dip further. Typically it runs levitate as a ground immunity is massive, but the options of neutralising gas and misty surge provide unique benefits. It also has a vast movepool to work from. Some options include: Flamethrower, toxic, toxic spikes, thunderbolt, memento, taunt, sludge bomb, haze, thief, destiny bond and potentially more. How will you utilise this gaseous gentlemen (or gentlewomen)?

Submissions will be open until Friday June 27th at 9am GMT+0.

Misty Terrain HO
:sv/weezing-galar:
kinda only here to place the terrain, you probably switch into something like armarouge on turn 1 and then second time you bring it you boom or you memento etc, if the movepool looks whack it's because turns out a mon who's support movepool is statuses and defog doesn't work well when placing misty terrain, toxic spikes are here in case you can get some use out of it in longer games i guess

:sv/hitmonlee:
Unburden big speed big damage tera figthing +2 close combat ooga booga, also loves misty terrain's protection against statuses, it literally beats gweez with the terrain

:sv/grimmsnarl:
budget ceruledge but not bad, people don't really expect it and it's pretty bulky so often hard to remove, drain punch can get some surprise kills on people who don't expect it and gives you good recovery the damage is nice, the priority is nice, just don't fight gweez and it'll be alright, also loves the status immunity for burns and all

:sv/armarouge:
all around reliable mon, likes misty letting it sit on umbreon HARD, nothing much to say aside form that, it's an armarouge

:sv/mamoswine:
damage good, loves status immunity etc etc

:sv/maushold:
we have 2 knock users, helping it greatly and maus is just an all around good mon, misty also means you don't have to worry about flame body or static

Misty Terrain Redemption
:Weezing-Galar::Mamoswine::Bisharp::Necrozma::Hitmonlee::Forretress:
I made a Misty Terrain team for Week 3... It wasn't too great. I saw other people do necro, and I wanted to be different, so I used fuckass Diancie. It also didn't help that the team was offensive (though that's also me not knowing how to pivot around, lol). Still, I wanted to play around the idea of Oblivious mamo and misty.

:Weezing-Galar: - Sets up misty and has flamethrower for steel types. Pick your poison for momentum: Memento hinders setup or boom does damage and avoids Defiant/Competitive.

:Mamoswine: - Big damage mammoth that has Freeze Dry for would-be checks such as bro and gastro. Tera water flips its weaknesses to lure gyara and cc krook.

:Bisharp: - Checks physical walls such as gweezing for mamo and deals with ghosts for necro, especially specs herscu.

:Necrozma: - Fighting types dogwalk this team, so I needed a grounded fighting resistance. Additionally, Prism Armor with Misty Seed allows it to take hits physically and specially. 184 speed evs lets it outspeed timid volc. You can run impish instead to bolster its bulk and ensure zap 3HKOs it with Brave Bird.
252 Atk Zapdos-Galar Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 76 Def Necrozma: 175-207 (44 - 52.1%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 145-172 (36.5 - 43.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:Hitmonlee: - The second seed user that outpaces the majority of the meta. Outspeeding scarf gar isn't necessary, as necro and sharp check it.

:Forretress: - The D-tier mon itself. It's a lead compressing the role of a rocker and spinner, helping the team stay healthy and sweep. It, gweezing, and sharp is also a cool combo. You can sr, pivot into gweezing against another gweezing, and then swap into sharp. The opposing gweezing at most chips sharp, so you can do whatever (or, you can switch into another offensive mon if you're feeling ballsy).

Weezing-Galar + Rabsca Custap Spam
:Weezing-galar: :Rabsca: :Hippowdon: :Jirachi: :Terrakion: :Crawdaunt:

:Weezing-galar: - I was going to post a Misty Terrain team, but I ain't no sheep. So instead I put Custap Destiny Bond to trade against faster threats when Weezing gets low. Overheat was chosen to snipe steel types and chip them into range of Jirachi and Crawdaunt.

:Rabsca: - I don't like Leppa berry, and I think Custap fits much better since Rabsca. It allows it to click another move in scenarios where you're left with low HP. Tera Water over Bug/Dark/Steel was chosen because it's overall good defensively into everything. The main reason I wanted to put Rabsca on the team was to let Weezing Destiny Bond two mons in one game, but being able to revive Crawdaunt/Terrakion/Jirachi to clean up the endgame felt a lot more prevalent in testing.

:Hippowdon: - Stealth Rocker and physical wall. Sand complements Terrakion with a SpD boost while also lending some sand chip, which also benefits Jirachi and Crawdaunt. Rocky Helmet over Leftovers to further chip the opponents team.

:Jirachi: - Choice Scarf Iron Head is pretty cheap. Fire Punch is mainly for Forretress and offensive pressure over something like Healing Wish. Trick is also nice against bulkier teams where Choice Scarf is less valuable.

:Terrakion: - Choice Band Terrakion is one of my favorite mons to use as it threatens to sweep every team without a Slowbro. Tera Rock helps break through Slowbro and Weezing-Galar with Stone Edge and blows up any none defensive mon.

:Crawdaunt: - SD Life Orb set. Water/Dark STAB coverage is really strong, especially with Knock Off. Life Orb balances the immediate pressure of Choice Band and the flexibility of swapping moves, allowing it to not rely on a SD boost all the time.

Totally didn't forget about this :worrywhirl:

:sv/lilligant hisui: Week 12: Hisuian Lilligant :sv/lilligant hisui:
1752474527280.png

Hisuian Lilligant has been a middle of the road Pokemon until recently. However now that 3 of its biggest counters are gone, including fighting type competition, Hilligant has popped off recently. Hilligant can utilise its unique STAB combo alongside the 50% boost from Hustle to wear down common walls such as Slowbro, Hippowdon and Chesnaught. The bread and butter set is a victory dance set, utilising its unique typing to set up with Victory Dance and end sweeps with Hustle boosted attacks.
However, Hilligant has more up its sleeve then it may seem at first. If you don't like rolling the dice to attack, then Chlorophyll can be utilised. This especially works well on sun teams, which allows Hilligant to outspeed the majority of the boosted and unboosted meta. Hilligant can also utilise a Scarf set with its premier speed tier, though it has to either roll the dice with its 80% accuracy attacks due to Hustle or use its lacking 105 Attack if it decides on Chlorophyll. Hilligant also has access to the rare Defog, which combined with Synthesis, can allow it to be a unique defensive Pokemon. How will you use this dancing Pokemon?

Sports Car...t
:torkoal: :lilligant-hisui: :tauros-paldea-blaze: :talonflame: :flygon: :goodra:

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9ru-856534?p2 <- R1 Summer Seasonal replay vs Feliburn.

When I saw that RU allowed Drought, I knew I needed to abuse it with a Sun team of my own. Torkoal has always been my preferred sun user over Ninetales even in OU play. Hisuian Lilligant took the "primary Sun abuser" slot given its incredible type coverage. Tera Blast Fire is a technique I have abused in OU for a long time and works just as well in lower tiers. The rest of the team prioritized role compression and hazard removal over adding additional Chlorophyll sweepers just for the additional speed. Tauros-Paldea-Blaze checks a ton of boxes in this regard and can set up inside or outside of Sun. Intimidate admittedly isn't great in RU given Zapdos-Galar and Bisharp running rampant, but it isn't a handicap either. Gale Wings Talonflame provides cheeky priority hazard removal at full health, which Heavy-Duty Boots ensures as long as it doesn't switch in. The last two slots needed to patch holes in priority and handling Volcanion. Flygon started off as Slither Wing before it got kicked upstairs to UU, and had an argument to replace it outright before its ban given its type immunities. If First Impression got Lokix a ticket to OU, I have no problem abusing it in RU. Goodra is the Volcanion and Zapdos-Galar patch with Toxic to put walls on that cliche timer.

As for the team name -- I have an OU team in my vault that I nickname "Sports Car" (hiding for OLT purposes but it deserves its own RMT one day). The RU version of course needed to be "Sports Car...t" with some Torkoal powered speed.

Scarf Hilli Offense
:gengar: :jirachi: :Cyclizar: :quagsire: :lilligant-hisui: :tornadus:

Fun offense I built for RUGL. Preferred the previous meta a bit more but it still does fine currently.

:Gengar: Team was primarily built around specs Gengar, giving it as many opportunities to switch in and click strong specs shadow balls/sludge waves as possible. Was a little easier to get in when Fez, Gweez, and Slither were in the tier, but if you’re able to maneuver it in with the multitude of pivoting options on the team it can very easily claim a mon everytime it switches in.

:jirachi: standard rachi

:Cyclizar: Near standard bike, I decided to try out Tera Dark on it to deal with Psyshock users. It can definitely clutch up if you accidentally set off a weak armor proc on Armarouge.

:Quagsire: I decided to forgo toxic on this Quag in order to run counter, as it really helps out against stuff like Mamoswine or Gapdos after being knocked off. The team is pretty offensive so I don’t really see a huge drawback in not running a somewhat passive move in toxic. Quag additionally helps with the HO matchup.

:Lilligant-Hisui: Really desired to have Healing Wish support for Gar, plus a speed control option, but Gard didn’t seem like the best pick on this team. Hilligant fulfills both those desires, while also hitting like a truck, with the caveat of only hitting 4/5 times, theoretically. Still very useful though, and can be lethal if it is able to get its hits off.

:tornadus: Tornadus sort of acts like a more offensive secondary Cyclizar, running knock turn, though it greatly helps the matchup against stuff like Hoodra. Additionally, it provides a ground immunity which the team desperately needs, and can function as an answer to Gapdos if it burns the Tera.

Lilligant-Hisui + Specs Chandelure Sun
:lilligant-hisui: :torkoal: :chandelure: :cyclizar: :slowbro: :rhyperior:

:lilligant-hisui: - As lucrative as Hustle is, when all my moves are replaced with Stone Edge with different colors I go back to the builder and swap off. Victory Dance is used to setup on mons that struggle to 2HKO Lilligant like Chesnaught or on predicted switches. Tera Fire to resist Ice Shard from Mamoswine and burns from Talonflame.

:torkoal: - It fits better as a sun setter in this structure compared to Ninetales as setting up rocks on lead proved more valuable. EVs allow Body Press to 2HKO Empoleon and survive two Surfs.

:chandelure: - Forgoing Energy Ball for Fire Blast allows for a way to 2HKO Chansey/Blissey with Tera Fire in the sun. Overheat and Flamethrower 2HKOs PhysDef Gastrodon and Slowbro in the sun without tera.

:cyclizar: - AV spinner, Draco Meteor to kill opposing dragons like Noivern and Salamence.

:slowbro: - The team needed more ways to pivot in Lilligant/Chandelure, and that's why eject button Slowbro is here to eat hits from Terrakion and Zapdos-Galar.

:rhyperior: - Sturdy ground type that can trade hits with other threats like DD Salamence and Bisharp.

My vote goes to Hoops. I'm always a sucker for counter quagsire, and specs gengar is always a breaker that I feel should be used more.

Well, there doesn't seem to be any more votes in, so congratulations to HoopsspooH for winning this week of Teambuilding Competion. Your team will be added to the HOF shortly.

:sv/golurk: Week 13: Ground-types :sv/flygon:
1753433166156.png

With the departure of Galarian Weezing and Slither Wing, Ground-types have exploded in popularity. From the defensive behemoth that is Hippowdon, to the fast attacker Krookodile, Ground types are eating up this shift. However, it wasn't just the top tier grounds that benefitted from the rise, lower tier grounds also were improved by the rises. So, your task this week, is to use one of these lower tier grounds.
This means that any Ground-types above B rank in the VR are banned from this week.
Gastrodon
Mamoswine
Krookodile
Hippowdon
Rhyperior
If the Ground-type is B rank or below, or even not ranked on the VR, then its fair game.
Submissions will be open until Friday August 1st at 9am GMT+0.

Here's my team that features not one, but two lower ranked grounds that helped me cross the line to get reqs for the Salamence suspect test!
:gligar::talonflame::quagsire::blissey::muk-alola::chesnaught: - Untitled 295/Gligar Stall (?)
This team is heavily inspired by the many stall teams I've seen on ladder, but utilizing Gligar instead of the far more common Gastrodon.

:gligar: - Usually the lead. Spreads status, knocks, makes layers, the good stuff. Can switch into Gapdos in a pinch too! The Speed EVs let it reach 240 speed, allowing it to outspeed Bisharp, Magnezone and max speed Volc to name a few important mons. Maybe not worth the sacrificing the bulk for but being able to outrun and two shot max speed Volc's very fun.

:talonflame: - I opted to run Defog over U-Turn as our only knock absorbers are Chesnaught and Gligar (only if its facing like A-Muk lmao) and we don't want hazards to eat us alive. Though there's a definitely an argument for U-Turn. Otherwise a fairly standard Talonflame I'm pretty sure.

:quagsire: - My lord and savior against that foul dragon and the swine. Heard clamors of Counter Quag in the cord and scoffed at it but oh my god its so good. Just make sure you scout the Tera Ground EQ from Mamo unlike me. Earlier build had SR in place of Toxic but I got rid of that because I got bodied by a stray Tera Electric Azelf w/ CM and Energy Ball didn't want Flying types coming in for free on me.

:blissey: - Not much to say, just a regular Bliss. Earlier builds of this team had Ice Beam instead of SR but I got rid of that after I got rid of hazard setting on Quag.

:muk-alola: - Another standard pick on these types of teams, solid special bulk, removes boots, spreads status.

:chesnaught: - Helmet's very good to stop Maushold, solid physical tank that makes layers and removes items. Tera Ghost over Tera Steel to stop the spin.
