--

If you are inspired by the winning art design and have come up with a good and unique name you'd like the CAP to be known by, please submit your idea here and we will put it up for a vote against all other users' ideas. Final submissions must conform to the submission rules, so please read them carefully. Breaking the posting rules can also result in disqualification.

Rules
Legal name submissions must meet the following standards
  • Names must start with a capital letter.
  • Names cannot be longer than 12 characters.
  • Names can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A - Z
    • Numbers 0 - 9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Accent (´)
    • Period (.)
    • Colon (:)
    • Space
  • No more than two capital letters can be included in the name, and capital letters cannot be consecutive.
  • A maximum of two non-letters can be included in the name, and a maximum of one non-letter of each type can be included (ie. You can't have two numbers, or two apostrophes, but you could have one number and one apostrophe)
  • Legal names must be submitted in the exact format prescribed further down this post

A name will not be slated if it:
  • is completely unrelated to the design
  • is the name of an existing Pokemon
  • is silly (puns are fine)
  • is based primarily on memes
  • is meant to inflame, intimidate, or cause controversy
  • would cause legal issues in a real Pokemon game

Do not claim another person's name submission unless one or more of the following is true:
  • The original poster made a Final Submission post for a different name.
  • The original poster has stated in this thread the name can be claimed.
  • It is 48 hours or fewer until the thread closes.

WIPs
Work In Progress (WIP) Names can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Names can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with lists of Names. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP names by posting them repeatedly, or making minor spelling changes of a letter or two. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all names by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submissions
Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person. Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Final submissions must provide one sentence (25 words maximum) explaining the etymology of the name.

Final submissions must provide a common English pronunciation. The common pronunciation can be made in whatever format you feel best conveys the pronunciation to most English speakers. (You may optionally also provide an IPA pronunciation. For information about IPA and processing words into IPA read this guide: IPA For English. There are also numerous phonetic translation tools online that can help.)

Final Submission Template - READ ME
Name Final Submissions must be posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • The Name submission in bold.
  • A blank line
  • A one line description of the etymology of the name or why it is appropriate for our Pokemon. (25 words maximum)
  • A blank line
  • "Pronounced: <common English pronunciation>"
  • "IPA: <IPA pronunciation>" (optional)
Below the Final Submission you can post other comments, explanations, etc.

Any deviation from the above will result in your name submission being disqualified. There are no exceptions to this rule - if you are worried that a name you like has not been submitted correctly, you are welcome to contact that submitter!

Example Final Submission:
Final Submission

Syclant

A combination of "Icicle" + "Ant".

Pronounced: "SICKLE-ant"
IPA: sɪkəlænt

This name was originally submitted by Lawman on the very first CAP project. It is simple, elegant, and easy to pronounce (even if you are pronouncing it wrong), which is why it was chosen as the official name for CAP1!

Below is a copy & paste-able template for submissions! Just replace the appropriate gaps - and remember that you don't need to include IPA if you're not comfortable using it, or otherwise uncertain.
Final Submission

SampleName

A combination of the words "Sample" and "Name"

Pronounced: Sam-Pul-Naym
IPA: /ˈsam.pəl.neɪm/

This thread will be closed at the discretion of the CAP moderator team depending on thread activity.

Khrampustion

A combination of the words Krampus and Combustion. (Krampus is the opposite of St. Nicholas, a goat-like being who punishes the naughty children before Santa rewards the good ones, though this day has more become a celebratory holiday filled with music and dances in European countries)

Pronounced: Cr-ahm-buhs-chn

WIP (1/3)
Surtram

A combination of "Surtr", the legendary Norse Fire Giant, and "Ram".

Pronounced: "SIR-tram"
IPA: sɝtɹæm

With so many Ragnarok-themed names, I figured it would be a fun idea to incorporate the legendary force of nature that is front and center of the Ragnarok mythos. Surtr is known for his bright sword that he wields in battle, which to me really drives home the Steel typing.

WIP (2/3)
Lokiroat

A combination of "Loki" and "Goat".

Pronounced: LOW-key-ROTE
IPA: ˈloʊkiɹoʊt

While it isn't a very well-known part of his domain, Loki was often depicted as the Norse God of fire. I think Loki is extra fitting for CAP 36 because he is often depicted as the son of a frost giant in popular culture while still wielding green flames, similar to those the pirouette forme has.

WIP (3/3)
Pyrfrost

A combination of "Pyre" and "Frost", and a play on the term "Bifröst".

Pronounced: PIE-er-frost
IPA: ˈpaɪɚfɹɒst

The Bifröst is a particularly thematic choice for the inspiration for CAP 36's name, as CAP 36's pirouette forme utilizes the aurora in its design, something that likely inspired the legend of the Bifröst.

WIP 1

Slaggaclath

Slag, as in a type of horned sheep known as a Roslag (and slag being molten metal waste during the smelting of ores) + clath, referencing Methane clathrate, aka "burning ice" (also sounds like clash idk).

Pronounced: "slag-guh-clath"

WIP (1/3)

Stellaries

From "Stella" (Latin: star), "Constellation" and "Aries" (Latin: sheep/ram; also one of the Zodiac constellations)

Pronounced: Stell-AH-rees
IPA: stɛle͡əɹiːz

Stars are very hot. Sometimes stars contain metal. Also, star powered battering ram sounds conceptually very cool (haha Ice). The name alludes to the spiritual influence associated with zodiac constellations, in this case specifically Aries of course. Then there's the nod to the Stellar type, which ties into the DLC2 part of the generational gimmick and Terapagos. Perhaps Terapagos represents the (Poké-)Earth, and Stellaries the stars. Did you know the Galapagos islands are a prime location for stargazing?

WIP (2/3)

Erifleets

From "Eruption", "Fleet(ing)" and "Fleece"

Pronounced: ERR-ee-fleets
IPA: tba

The 'eruption' part here refers to its Fire type and the base forme's volcanic looking horns. Being 'fleet' is a different way of saying something is speedy, which the alternate forme certainly is, while 'fleeting' means short lasting, referring to the forme change being temporary as well as the idea that most people would only see this mon briefly, ergo its mythical status. 'Fleece' here of course refers to it being a goat, which are bred for their wool though not as much as sheep are.

WIP (3/3)

Borearies

From “Aurora Borealis” and “Aries”
Pronounced: Bo-ree-AH-rees
IPA: tba

“Borealis” because of the aurora in alternate forme, “Aries” because sheep duh

Magmarok

"Magma" + "Ragnarok"

Pronounced: Mag-muh-rok
In Hungarian it's the plural of Magmar.

Magmar a sokkal gyakoribb félig vízi Golduck vulkáni unokatestvére. Bár a Magmarok egy kicsit területvédőbbek és forrófejűbbek, mint a rokonaik. Sok dokumentált támadás volt Magmaroktól, gyakran évente akár 300 égési sérült is azt állítja, hogy egy Magmar támadta meg őket. A Magmar itt Groudon jelenlétéből menekül, a fiatal Magby-t egy bokájánál fogva tartva.

WIP 1

Jotunndra

From jotunn, the Norse mythological term for giant, and tundra to incorporate the ice type.

WIP 2

Lavalhalla

Combination of Lava and Valhalla

WIP 3

Ramcestral

Combination of Ram and Ancestral, with the "stral" also connecting to astral for the aurora theme.

WIP (1/2)

Baarealis

"baa" (the sound sheep make) + "borealis" (north) from aurora borealis

Pronounced: baah-ree-aa-luhs

WIP (2/2)

Sootur

"Soot" (fire residue) + "hrutur" (Icelandic name for a ram)/"aurora". Invokes Surtr, fire giant.

Pronounced: soot-oo-rgh
