Ramnarok (Transformed) Main Design
cap_36p_final-png.740904

This thread is for the individual forme names for each of Ramnarok's formes. Forme names will be polled together, as such you must submit a name for both of Ramnarok's formes.

If you are inspired by the winning art design and have come up with good and unique forme names you'd like the CAP to be known by, please submit your idea here and we will put it up for a vote against all other users' ideas. Final submissions must conform to the submission rules, so please read them carefully. Breaking the posting rules can also result in disqualification.

RULES:

Legal forme name submissions must meet the following standards
  • Forme names must be real English words in titlecase
  • Forme names cannot be longer than 20 characters each.
  • Forme names can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A-Z
    • Dash (-)
    • Space
  • Forme names are to be submitted in the format <Base Forme Name>/<Transformed Forme Name>. For example, Aria/Pirouette.

Names will not be slated if they are:
  • completely unrelated to the design
  • the name of an existing Pokemon
  • silly (puns are fine)
  • based primarily on memes
  • meant to inflame, intimidate, or cause controversy

WIPs
Work In Progress (WIP) Names can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Names can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with lists of Names. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP names by posting them repeatedly, or making minor spelling changes of a letter or two. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all names by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submissions
Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person. Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Format
Name Final Submissions must be posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • The two Forme name submissions in bold in the format <Base Forme Name>/<Transformed Forme Name>. For example, Aria/Pirouette.
Below the Final Submission you can post other comments, explanations, etc.

Example final submission:
Final Submission

Aria/Pirouette

Meloetta exists in its Aria form before using Relic Song. Upon singing its Relic Song, it transforms to its Pirouette form.

This stage, as well as the Custom Move Name stage that will go live after our formes are decided, are both being slightly expedited in order to better align Ramnarok's release with ongoing tournaments. As a result, forme name submissions will close 72 hours from now.

Australis/Borealis

Really liked Borealis as a forme name, originating from Aurora Borealis for the Northern Lights, ended up going with the opposite name for the standard form, with Australis being the name for the Southern Lights, which has a neat feel, especially with southern lights usually being associated with warmer colors. Will prob tinker with it more though.

Final Submission

Armored /Aura

The names are somewhat self explanatory. The first form is in reference to both the steel typing and little throwback to Armored Mewtwo (I hate seeing Armor spelt this way as Brit LOL) in a sense where quite a few of the body parts have been covered up with armor like pieces. Aura form is mostly going off the design giving a sense of presence and legendary like form. Aura is also slightly leaning away from Aurora but also similar sounding.

Swarthy/Lucent

In keeping with the Norse Mythology references that everyone's been going for, I picked terms connected to two different divine figures from that pantheon. The name of Surtr, the fire giant who starts Ragnarok, means "swarthy" or "dark" in reference to his blackened hide (what with the base form's mane being an ashy dark color), while the etymology of Heimdall, which Ramnarok was directly based on, isn't quite as clear, bur one suggested meaning is "the one who illuminates the world", likely in reference to the bifrost - I would've used "Luminous" but "Lucent" means the same while being more concise.

WIP

Dormant/Radiant

Pretty simple naming convention here, Dormant references volcanoes, calmness, and the fact that Ramnarok is signaling the coming of... Ragnarok. Radiant references the Aurora Borealis and fits the conventions of legendary super forms (Terapagos-Stellar, Zacian/Zama-Crowned, Ultra Necrozma, etc.)

WIP

Ironwarg/Emberglint

Iron+"Warg"/"Varg" – a more anglicized and modern version of vargr, old norse word used to describe wolfish, feral warriror spirit or even an-all-devouring destructive force of myth
Ember (evoking fire and warmth)+ Glint (capturing the essences of the flicker of light, the shimmer of ice, and the glow of the aurora or Bifrost)

WIP 2

Ironwrought/Emberfrost

Forged/Frazil

I think I'm happy with these two. The trickiest part about this name submission was finding something that had connotations of quickness for an ice-type, since a lot of words for cold/cool stuff are synonymous with static/slow-moving things (glacier, solidification, frozen, etc.). When creating form names, I tried to align both the meaning and the sound itself with their respective forms and their identities.

Forged is a fairly generic-sounding name, but it keeps things simple and sounds robust with the harsh consonant sounds (mainly the g and the d). I like that it references the Steel / Fire typing in the most concise way possible. Frazil is basically soft, crystalline ice formed in turbulent water, which is tricky to freeze. It's not a common word, but you can tell what it is supposed to mean since it sounds a lot like 'frozen'. The sibilance with the z makes it seem like the faster-moving form.

Final Submission

Sentry/Herald

I think of the base form as some sort of guard or sentinel of some kind of hidden power/kingdom or smth similar. Whereas the Herald form would be either a sign of some upcoming large scale change of the world or the vanguard of that hidden power/kingdom revealing itself to the world.

Crucible/Boreal

Crucible is an instrument used in metalworking, handling molten metal which I think the first form evokes quite a bit with those molten iron veins.

Boreal means Northern, and may refer to the Northern Wind which carries Ramnarock at blazing speeds. It also obviously evokes the Aurora Borealis, which are very present on the second form.

Ferrous
/ Subzero

Went with some chemistry terms that should be easy to recongize what they are referring to. Ferrous is an adjective used to refer to compounds containing Iron, while Subzero is referencing subzero temperatures. Shouldn't take an expert to figure out why these words would fit each form.
