OU DPP OU Teambuilding Competition

The votes are in; and in a close contest, the winner of the NU Pokémon teambuilding competition is Planet in a close round of voting, separated by one vote!

From Planet: https://pokepast.es/f4b260d3c2798f90

Since it is an odd numbered competition, the next theme can be any Pokémon from the top 30 of the VR (link), and will be chosen by Planet as a reward for winning the last competition. If they don’t want to choose, or don’t choose by 08/07/25, then I’ll post a theme by 09/07/25 (GMT).
Once it's announced you win the competition, comment your choice in a new post with the new theme at the top of the message.

There are some rules as to what you are able to pick.
- For every odd teambuilding competition, you can pick any Pokémon from the top 30 of the VR (link).
- For every even teambuilding competition, you can pick anything you want with no restrictions.

These rules are in place to ensure that we don’t get too many difficult mons to build with in a row, which has caused inactivity in the past.

You can also choose a set or a theme to build with instead of a Pokémon. E.g., Build with banded tyranitar, or build with water spam. You can choose more difficult themes if you wish, but please exercise discretion.

Once picked, your choice can't be changed, so bear that in mind.

A new teambuilding competition theme has dropped! This time, it's Nasty Plot Celebi! You can submit any OU team so long as it contains this Pokemon and set.

The submission deadline of this competition is Saturday the 19th of July, at 11:00 pm GMT.

Happy building :)

Hmmm...I haven't tried out NP Celebi often tbh (Maybe bc I was thinking of BP Celebi in DPP as a slow pivot), but here's a team that's a bit similar to PDC (Or Ladybug's SPL) team, but with Flygon & SuperRachi. (The problem with the PDC team is Mag needs a Knock offer or else it'll be a match up fish since Skarm can pull a get out of jail card with Shed Shell)

(EDIT: Replaced Rachi to Starm bc I felt the team was food for Ape tbh)

Here is my attempt at a NP Celebi: https://pokepast.es/39b3efdb96d18651

Here’s my Celebi team. I went with HP Fire over Ice because I wanted to be able to put more pressure on Skarmory. It’s the team I submitted for the Gengar comp, but with a Lati over the Gar. I made the switch after finding the team to be too weak to Water types. I’m still trying to iron out the wrinkles of this team, but it feels pretty good rn.
going to try this team out now but at first glance, isnt this team just ttar food?

:heatran: :celebi: :latias: :magnezone: :flygon::lucario:

I know I am too late for the team comp and this doesn't qualify anyways, but I thought I'd throw this team on the thread for people to look at. Neat little cm celebi balance. Celebi lures in steels pretty well for zone with this setup, which helps your dragons go to work.

edit: lucario subbed for kingdra so it doesn't lose automatically to blissey lol

No, I don't think so. I feel like the team puts enough pressure on Tar to the point where it can’t get settled enough to really disrupt me. I can’t remember one game where I felt that TTar was a problem. If you are worried about it, you could try running Colbur on Celebi or Latias. If anything, I felt like Ape and Scarf Tran were more troublesome, so I considered Occa Celebi to deal with them but I never tried it.

Edit: Just had the idea to swap Fire Blast for Lava Plume to fish for burns against Tyranitar

Voting has begun for the teambuilding competition featuring Nasty Plot Celebi, and we have a highly selective field of just four entries this time around. The teams submitted were:

:flygon: :heatran: :tyranitar: :celebi: :breloom: :starmie:
Jhall99: https://pokepast.es/f6da68904643b6e1

:Hariyama: :celebi: :heatran: :gyarados: :latias: :magneton:
Rackham: https://pokepast.es/a1bcd890b86e6062

Who built the best team? The deadline for voting is next Saturday (26/07/2025), 11:00 pm GMT.
Once voting concludes and the winner is announced, they will choose the theme for the next competition.

RobertShortGrass's team, applied a few tweaks, but it's really cool lol.

The rest fall off from consistency tbh, I feel like Mag needs a Knock Offer.

The votes are in; and in a close contest, the winner of the NU Pokémon teambuilding competition is Jhall99 with a ratio of three to one!

Since it is an even numbered competition, the next theme can be any Pokémon or theme with no restrictions, and will be chosen by Jhall as a reward for winning the last competition. If they don’t want to choose, or don’t choose by 29/07/25, then I’ll post a theme by 31/07/25 (GMT).

Jhall99 has chosen a new theme! This time, it's really simple. The theme is Rhyperior! You can submit any OU team so long as it contains this Pokemon!

Gonna throw my hat to the ring & try to enact damage control on Rhyperior:

Hippowdon
Rhyperior sprite from Diamond & Pearl
Bronzong sprite from Diamond & Pearl
Blissey sprite from Diamond & Pearl
Zapdos sprite from Diamond & Pearl
Tentacruel sprite from Diamond & Pearl

Rhyperior is a Pokemon that Game Freak tried to patch up Rhydon's weaknesses & gave it a neat ability that prevented it from falling to ZU, but it's saddled by a cursed typing that Rhyperior would've worked better if it was a pure Ground type. Nonetheless, it still does its work hitting hard & can even check DD Tar a bit.

Rhyperior's EV allow it to speed creep uninvested Skarm to prevent mind games & wall break through SD, Hippo provides Sand & protection against Mixed Dragons since Mix Dragons can scare Rhy with a Draco. Zong helps patch up Rhy's weaknesses & provide Payback against Gar, Shadow Ball & Wish Blissey to act as backup if the opponent brought a fat Rotom that spreads Burns. Tenta can absorb T-Spikes & can Rapid Spin (Also acts as a 2nd Ape Check in case if Ape was Banded), & Zap provides some coverage against Gyara just in case.

This team almost looks like a team Pre-Lati, is it perfect? No. But it does try to cover Rhy's special defense.

Might as well share my Rhyperior team. Got me some nice wins in Dppl and DPP global.

The rest of the team is just a really solid defensive core and I knew some sort of Magneton abuser could sure up the stall matchup.

I tried all sorts of wacky things Block Tyranitar, Sub Toxic Flygon, Curse Cradily, Quagsire, Umbreon, Regirock, Acupressure Shuckle, even Starf Magnezone. But Rhyperior's pressure felt the best in testing.

I gave Clefable Counter to smash bulky grounds and with Skarm trapped by magneton, Rhyperior is free to wreck havoc. It also appreciates the paralysis support from Jirachi, Latias and Magneton.

Rhyperior has protect because I love using protect on things you don't expect it on. It's free scouting and a powerful recovery move on any bulky ground type.

Sword dance/Substitute are notable omissions, but you still get to threaten them and your opponent has to respect them until protect is revealed. This set just had so much more staying power than SD/Sub.

You wouldn't believe the EV spread is the result of weeks of tinkering. Outspeeding Lazy Metagross is too useful and you need max adamant to break without SD.

Wait, I saw you use this against SFG, I think.
