Little things you like about Pokémon

I got vitreous dettachment (at 26, yay...and it has no solution) like a couple months ago so life has been too bad to focus on posting here, so sorry if things seem a bit erratic.

First of all, leaked stuff for the physical TCG

Absolutely insane. I'm not even a big fan of Megas anymore. I don't like how they are implemented now. But this solves the problem by having both normal and Mega versions with kickass full art and effects (I think? From now on, I see contrast badly, and the quality of these leaks are "ma pixels" anyway)

Second, just the concept of countdown images for a Pokemon Presents. We just got the starters this time but it has genuinely hyped me up despite how uninterested I'm for ZA's concepts. Reminds me of the ones showcasing all generations leading up to SV's reveal, it was so great even trough I knew I should be mad at how they killed LA's hype (which is a dhame because Daybreak is awesome but seems like most people didn't play it...)

I'm sorry to hear that. :psysad:

Those spoilers are... something else, ngl. I suddenly got a newfound appreciation for Gacha Hell TCG Pocket, the OG one seems borderline unplayable nowadays.

Rest assured the OG is Pocket's future. Both are effectively "play a bunch of things to get your Weapon online and Kill", the OG just has more deck space and options to get there and years and years and years to build up HP inflation. You can already see hints of this in Pocket if you see the general power level and options being deployed set by set.

Also if you want a look at what the leaked mega secret rares will look like in person, they seem to be building on what the Owner rares were like

I believe these do have a really nice "in person" holofoil.

Thank you.

It really is, trough, at the rate Pocket is going when it comes to introduce new mechanics, I don't think they are future proofing it so much.

It's funny because one of the things that I liked about the SV era initially was how they were reintroducing exes after years and years of huge 3 prize cards that were also Basics so could be played right away...but now some of the Megas will be exactly that again. And I doubt they are not going to make Rayquaza broken. Again.

I like how Pokemon Colosseum and XD have different color schemes for shinies. A lot of them look so much better than in the main game or look great in general which makes me love to store or use them in those games more. Like Quilava, Suicune, Gengar, Gligar, Scizor, Ariados
I still have no idea how that even happened but it has always been quite amusing to me, specially given how GF *does* sometime change Shinies, but at a seemingly random pace.

I think an important aspect of Mega Blastoise's design that's been lost to time is how it was clearly designed with Triples in mind. Its design features 3 big cannons, its ability boosts Pulse moves which in that format are among the few which can hit Pokemon two spaces away and it also learns Follow Me

Never thought about this before, but this is really cool. Because back in Gen 6, Mega Blastoise was a popular choice for Super Triple teams in the Battle Maison. It was used by many players (myself included), usually alongside Greninja and Talonflame for Mat Block and Tailwind support. Looking at the Maison thread here on the forums now, Mega Blastoise appears 17 times on the leaderboards for Super Triple, which is quite a lot. Assuming it really was designed with Triples in mind, it is really well designed since many players made good use of it for the format.

I'm playing through Gold on my computer so I can eventually transfer the Save file to a homebrewed DS. I'm excited to play through a game where I can access Mareep and Girafarig, and as I'm playing on computer can pkhex in stuff like evolutionary stones as needed.

The sprites don't look the best playing the game in full screen, but at a too large size you can really tell how they were made, which is cool in its own way.

I love how your Pokemon starts with a berry. You're burn through it almost immediately. They do a great job pointing out all the improvements they made.

I'm using the Chikorita line for the first time ever, and yeah, it doesn't have the best matchup into the first two gyms, and for the first one especially there aren't an interesting variety of encounters to use instead. But I do like how it fully embraces the Support-mon nature of Grass types. When you start the game with Tackle, it doesn't do a lot, but also, it has great physical defense to compensate.

I just beat Bugsy and it was a great fight. Usually I steamroll him with Quilava, but here I tried to use Chikorita to see if I could stall with Reflect and Poison Powder. Due to a crit, I couldn't even Poison Scyther, and Fury Cutter almost got out of control. It's a slightly annoying move to use as a player, but it's a great way for a Gym Leader to punish poor planning on the player's part, which I certainly had. I barley won due to my level 6 Gastly double resisting after everything else was KOed.

That may have been my favorite Second Gym battle. I'm also playing on Switch mode because I'm too lazy to change it, and I'm actually really appreciating how in the early game, it makes grinding up your team so much easier because of the degree you control xp allocation.

Playing on Set, if a Pokemon I wanted to train had a good matchup, or needed to be switch-trained, I'd have to let it take a hit on its way in, and it would only get half the experience. Obviously when the battles get more challenging I will switch it back to Set for the pretense of a challenge.

edit: also it's funny how cucked Professor Elm is. "omg, Professor Oak gave you a Pokedex? How exciting." Congrats on being the 2nd most important Pokemon Professor in your own region.

Pokemon Generations. I’d have loved some more episodes on the first 6 gens, and I’d especially love more future episodes on 7/8/9.

Also bring Looker to the Switch.
Seeing game plot points actually put to animation is a neat novelty, especially since the anime barely did that. iirc the Diamond and Pearl era was the only time the show made a genuine attempt to directly adapt the corresponding game story, and even then kinda just didn't finish it.

I just happened to be playing trough Po Town in Ultra Sun (still a top location btw, I love almost everything about it) when this new trailer was revealed. And as much as I hate the new main artoworks being 3D stylized, I love how we finally got something as genuinely goofy as Mega Slowbro, and how much it whisplashes with the setting.

But really, this is just a good excuse to remind everyone about how fantastic Po Town was in every aspect. Great atmosphere, neat little details like the Center needing payment, cool OST, everything is always a treat to go back to.

Now that Mega Victreebel has been revealed, one little thing I do like about it is how its lore seems to emphasize its Poison-type a lot more. It's a small thing, but it's a way to differentiate it from Venusaur, who also has a Mega, and it also leans into Victreebel being a pitcher plant, a carnivorous plant that eats insects, with Mega Victreebel's signature trait being its extreme amount of acid.

From a gameplay and RPG standpoint Bellsprout and its counterpart Oddish were originally designed in RGBY as "the poor man's Bulbasaur", as strong but not-as-strong-as-Venusaur Grass-types that players who chose Charmander or Squirtle could use.

Gen 1 was filled with Grass/Poison types, which all three of Bulbasaur, Oddish, and Bellsprout are. But in Bulbasaur's case, even now despite being able to learn several Poison-type moves via TM its secondary Poison-type is so irrelevant even to its lore that it might as well not even be a factor: its Grass-type takes priority when it comes to its lore and natural learnset and it just happens to be Poison-type.

Oddish and Bellsprout, especially the latter, lean more into the Poison-type more and actually fit it well. Vileplume is a rafflesia flower (its Japanese name is literally Rafflesia for that matter too!) which is a poisonous and parasitic flower while Victreebel is a pitcher plant that ingests insects using special acid to digest them after consuming them. Both of them from the very beginning also learned Acid, an actual Poison-type attack, by level-up, which also ties into their own bases, especially Victreebel's.

And now Mega Victreebel all these years later leans even harder into that and its Poison-type is emphasized significantly more to the point where its capacity to produce acid to lure in and melt insects is an even more integral part of its lore, and Mega Victreebel's schtick is that it has so much acid it restrains itself, but unleashes it on its prey, and it not only has a lot of acid but said acid is extremely powerful.

I think that's pretty cool.
