Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Ngl I fully expect them to reveal all new megas over time until the release.

That's just stuff japanese companies do and Pokemon has not been a exception.
That's what Pokemon used to do (over half the megas in XY, like 80% of the dexes in XY & SM, all the megas in ORAS, I think like 80% of the SM regionals, all the new USUM Pokemon), but very, like, provably doesn't any more?
SWSH only revealed a fraction of its Pokemon, Regionals and GMaxes. Same with SV. L:A barely had anything to reveal but still didn't reveal everything.

There will definitely be more Megas shown off, but I would be pretty surprised if it was more than...mmm...well hey we can just look at L:A a bit since there'll probably be about as many designs between new mons & regionals
Of the 7 Pokemon, 16 regionals and 2 Origins they revealed 3 Pokemon and 5 regionals. I also thought for sure they teased the 3 starter final forms in the classic silhouettes, but I didn't see that in my double check of the serebii archives...I'm pretty sure they did though, and didn't reveal them until after release, so I'll just assume I overlooked a news post.

So 8/28 + 3 teases. Definitely not indicative of them deciding to reveal every Mega over the next 2 and a half months.

Charizard X in Origins
Origins came out in October 2nd 2013, XY launched on the 12th, that's barely prerelease, and was only prerelease in Japan, Origins didn't release until November in English.
It got sideswept due to the games leaking but CoroCoro was also set to show off Aggron, Tyranitar & Gengar at about the same time the games came out, which since 2 of those were post game and we couldn't adequately datamine, count in my book.
Those don't count. Not being revealed prerelease means they weren't revealed prerelease.
I don't know why they picked Sableye
Because it's version exclusive counterpart Mawile already had a Mega from XY and they wanted to be fair to players of Alpha Sapphire.
with the only odd ball being Mega Garchomp just being extra edgy.
I mean Gabite is just a smaller simpler Garchomp and Gible is just even more simplified into an orb. Mega Garchomp becoming bigger, stripeier, and gaining larger claws is in line with the rest of the line and the other pseudo legend megas. Metagross (1 Beldum, 2 Beldum, 4 Beldum, 8 Beldum), Salamence always desired wings so it becomes 50% wings, Tyranitar hatches from its cocoon and then its back starts hatching again (spliting open).

Barely pre-release is still pre-release. It still got showcased and put on the website and everything.

Sure, then the count is revealed 13 of the 28 Megas, with 3 more meant to be revealed the day of. Almost half rather than over half.

I think they will only reveal some of the new Megas, yeah.

Priority will most likely go to the Megas of Pokemon that are particularly marketable, which is what SwSh, Legends: Arceus (with Hisuian forms and whatnot), and SV did with their new designs: prioritize popular/marketable designs.

That's been proven well enough with this recent Presents with our very first new Mega being that of the OG pseudo-legendary Dragonite, who is and always has been an iconic and popular Pokemon.

Over the next three months we'll likely see more, but priority will go to popular designs. Like, say, the Kalos starters if they (hopefully) get Megas.

I’m surprised they only revealed Dragonite tbh, I thought we’d at least get 2-3. I expect another around worlds, then 1-2 in September and maybe a few more the week of release.

Why are you like this

this one im not sure if i get since corbeau is very French guy To Ever French and theres no real reason for kieran and carmines family to have any connection to kalos. colors are similar but only really if you consider kieran and ignore carmine, and other than that i feel like gamefreak makes stuff like this a LOT more obvious.

also tbh knowing a bit of plant cladistics, plants sharing an order is kinda meaningless because an order in botany will have 1000000000000 species under it
Can't speak for Kieran's name since as far as I can tell it's a pretty typical one in each respective language, but Carmine's name in English and in Japanese (Seille) being attributed to a French basis ("Groseille", apparently French for the redcurrant Berry plant), at least among several ("carmin" in French along with Latin and Persian), seems oddly particular considering there's otherwise no hint they're anything but Japanese-based Kitakami born and raised.

I think the simplest explanation if trying to make a connection would be Corbeau being a traveling/abroad worker rather than a French-Kalos native, but it's not like we really have any frame of reference for Carmine and Kieran's home life beyond their Grandparents (whether it's a single or separate household). And I can't really blame people for looking for a resemblance considering Legends Arceus was full of expies and only some of them like Kamado had names that related to their counterparts, while others like the Miss Fortune Sisters stick more to a theme name between themselves or their role, and then people reaching for some like Sabi and Cheryl. In a lot of cases, a design resemblance is as good as any to draw a connection I say.

Given the nighttime gameplay loop involves maneuvering around NPC trainers and making sure they don't spot you first I really, really hope they give Emma a Z-A Royale encounter where you have to chase her down in the Expansion Suit and deal with its enhanced movement and shapeshifting
I don't know if the Expansion Suit would even still fit her, she was pretty short in XY and now she's taller.

Also unrelated note, how exactly are they tracking the victories for Shiny Treasures of Ruin?

She’s pretty clearly wearing a version of it in Z-A

It’s been modified / refurbished, but it’s the Expansion Suit.

I'd like to point out how the Rust Syndicate HQ doesn't seem to be on the map we got a few months ago

mayhaps.png

Closest building I can find is this black-roofed one near Quasartico but there's subtle differences that tell me this is something else (the map one has pillars and rounded rooves vs Rust's being sharply angled down).

This is good! Tells us the map isn't a 100% accurate birds eye view and there are extra points of interest they are hiding from us

NPC Partner Pokemon: I think they may be hinting Lida's style of dancing is breakdancing which I could see a Staryu's rapid spinning style fitting. Naveen wants to be a fashion designer, Scraggy is a Pokemon that looks like its wearing clothes, 'nuff said (BTW, how have people pointed out Lida is likely Tierno's sister yet not one the more obvious Naveen likely being Grant's younger brother? Are you telling me people remembered Tierno more over Grant?).

Yes, definitely. I had to google him to check who he was.

Ngl the poison drip kinda bothers me on the suit. They really didn't wanna step on Giovanni toes here so they made "poison type business suit"
I like the poison drops on the suit, but his earrings look better in the trailer. In this picture, they kinda look like snot.

Also, this made me realize something: I also had a crush on Giovanni growing up. Maybe I do have a type...

Mega-Dragonite: I feel like there's some sort of rule at TPC that megas are not allowed to do the obvious thing. Which makes sense to a certain degree for keeping things fresh, but also leads to a lot of avoidable bad/odd decisions.
"Make mega-dnite look like Dragonaire" is a cool concept, so how did they do it? They didn't make it blue. They didn't make it serpentine. Those are the two main things I think of when I think of Dragonaire. No, they copied the tail-pearl and moved the wings to it's head. WHY. I don't even hate it, but there are so many other things they could have done.

Champions: So, probably no single-player elements(except for whatever minigame you grind for points for new mons if you're losing I guess), but a full teambuilder(with extra steps). The exact opposite of what I expected from this. TBH, without some kind of single-player Stadium etc, not too interested, but this is basically the ideal VGC vehicle IMO so y'all enjoy.

Z-A: So far so good. I don't have any specific complaints or praises, but it's all reasonable and interesting, which is better than the alternatives. Well, one complaint. STOP with Dark/Poison for evil teams. It's nonsensical and boring. I'm also still worried that the day/night cycle will be tied to actual time passing and not in-game events/napping in a bed/etc.

Mega Dragonite is pretty cool. I am lowkey hoping it gets an ability that will turn its normal moves to a different type. I am guessing most players are thinking it will get aerialate, but I think since Mega Salamence / Pinsir already get that ability, it will get one that instead turns normal moves into Dragon-type attacks. I think this would be a cool way of making it unique with the STAB E-Speed while giving it more counterplay with fairies and what not. Think its cool.

Regardless of what ability it gets, the lack of item will be a big downside imo. Boots is what made Dnite pretty solid the past two gens, but even losing other items like Loaded dice will be a rough for sets like Scale Shot DD. I am hoping the perks of the mega will be enough to outweigh the drawbacks, and if nothing else, Dragonite has uses for its base form so it can use multiscale to get a free setup turn before cleaning up, even if you need to maneuver around hazards more.

Anything that gives Mega Dragonite STAB on Extreme Speed would more than compensate for the lack of item, especially since the Ate abilities come with a baked in 20% power boost. 80 x 1.5 (STAB) x 1.2 (any Ate ability) = 144 BP E-Speed. Now add Dragon Dance into the mix and I don't think you'll be missing the item that much. Pray it's Dragon-type Aerilate lol.

There's also a very good chance that, like Mega Mence, Mega Dragonite could receive a major boost to its defenses. That would make the swap off of Multiscale sting less and potentially make preserving it less important.

I’m hearing Aerliate a lot, but personally I’d prefer Dragonite to become Dragon/Normal type. There’s not many Pokemon with that type, and it has all the coverage to hit the Steel types that resist those moves

Other neat touches that I appreciated are opponent HP bars displaying a percentage, and new descriptions for moves as "Extremely effective" and "Mostly ineffective" for x4 weaknesses and x4 resists.
The former we already have in Showdown.

But let's get the latter in Showdown as a suggestion. "It's extremely effective!" (x4) and "It's mostly ineffective..." (x0.25) messages respectively.
