Why are Larry and Mana managing this???????? Anyway, you know I have great respect for you guys, but with that being said this is conservatively what you can expect in this finals. The manager diff for these tiers is enormous, and the Slugmas will win rather easily.

I blame Oculars for this
:Dachsbun: Dave's Dachsbuns (6) vs (2) Slugma Haxballs :slugma:
Iron Fist: scionicle vs crow crumbs - crow got clapped thrice by ana, negative million aura loss
Fusion Evolution Gen 9 OU: SEA vs Mada - even matchup, giving it to SEA
Vaporemons OU: big tony 2014 vs Fragments - Fragments was playing with his feet last week, also big tony 2014
Teramax OU: mielke vs One Last Kiss - Spammer made this guy load clear amulet ting-lu, I think he genuinely might be sabotaging squads
[Gen 6] Megas Revisited: hellom vs Baddy - better record and wins from hellom
Little Colosseum LC: zastra vs Quinn - made the tier
Blank Canvas Meta A: Monai vs hi.naming is hard - yapper tax
Paleomons: magialice vs THE_CHUNGLER - Only honorable slug

This is certainly and without a doubt the best metagame I've ever played. I know this for a fact because when I had the pleasure of playing TeraMax I wasn't sure it was a good metagame until around week 5. Everyone involved in the creation of this metagame and its inclusion into the available tiers of PMPL IV should be summarily big buttoned. I will enjoy the next 0 weeks and I request the hosts to never vet their metagames beforehand.

0-3 -> 5-3. was there ever any doubt.

On a more serious note, some of these metas felt way less Ready than years prior, like blank canvas just adding what was essentially tera normal gliscor and then not really thinking about how it might be completely disgusting as well as having 0 Pokemon that do anything, paleomons having broken super hawlucha (or I guess Flamigo?), more versatile toxapex, and the worst move ever made (soul wind) on a ridiculous setup sweeper, or how sometimes software crash just doesn't work, etc. The tour felt sloppier than it usually is, maybe that's just me though. shoutout to the team as usual, thanks magialice and Xrn for building with me wooooo go team

edit to respond to the below post: I did think iron fist was unironically one of the better tiers in this pmpl, and am largely in support of metagames like that (WHEN TESTED) in the future

iron fist, however, is a new bastion of pmpl and will be seen in future years
I unironically agree; I trolled a bit in the builder because there are so many funny options available, but it's pretty fair and the new mechanics are interesting. A new slate or two to polish things up would be nice, but it was certainly in a better state than you'd expect at first glance

Teramax also seemed a lot better than it was last year

replying because u hated on paleo. the tour isn't any "sloppier" than it was in previous years, many of the bugs this year are bugs that existed in previous years as well in some form or another. one thing that u could maybe call out is nobody on any team was bringing forward bugs they found since they'd be giving up the knowledge advantage. that sucks imo but it's mainly the fault of our current incentive structure rather than any fault of the players/managers.

as for the metas themselves, this year had more stable metas than literally any previous pmpl. By week 4, half of the metas had literally no balancing issues for the rest of the tour (with vape and fe only needing minor tweaks in order to be sufficiently balanced, while mr and if didn't need any at all). even mods like teramax and paleo, despite their flaws, were by and large balanced and enjoyed by the ppl who played them. the only mod u could have real balancing grievances with this tour imo is bc, and i think we'd all admit its inclusion was an oversight caused by the selection team having limited experience with the mod, but even then we've had equally bad metas in the past like pmpl1 alternatium and pmpl2 burgundy.

speaking of paleo, i get why u wouldn't like it, but the mod was overall pretty balanced, and the fact of the matter is that there's really only so much i could do to balance the mod on my own pre-tour. me and tanny were pretty much singlehandedly playtesting the mod by just running test games against each other over and over again, obviously there was gonna be stuff we missed. i wish we'd had more playtesters, but that's just the nature of pet mods, so we did what we could to patch any issues that popped up during the tour and we'll do what we can to balance the rest of the broken elements now that the tour is over.

also just wanna say for the umpteenth time that the existing system for making changes mid-tour fucking sucks. i get the concern over half-baked shit like some of the stuff bc council was putting out, but it was such a headache trying to balance paleo knowing i only had limited windows where i could actually take action on player feedback.

prob could've posted this in post-tour discussion or whatever but i can't be bothered, don't rlly wanna spend any more energy on pmpl this year. gl to all of yall, and i'll see you next year

Zpice and I pulled straws on who would be doing the post and I lost so heres my and his stuff

Me and SEA immediately noticed a lot of the truly broken shit. Gliscor, unburden + np thaum, skarmory with a broken typing and body press stab, and bulionage compressing very important roles + good output. Blobbiam was actually buffed throughout the tournament, and continued to be an incredible pick despite its low representation thanks to compressing good damage and utility. I'm pretty sure capricorne continued to be a solid Pokemon, but was difficult to fit going into the further context of the tour and the absolute monster that was fettogre.

W2 team was unfortunately lost to time because i deleted it following copperhead nerfs. But copperhead was already quite amaZing and would appreciate the extra moveslot alongside a Spikes Badjur. Fettogre and Blobbiam did the same thing as the prior week, providing a good badjur punish and generically great physical wall, while Blobbiam is a role compression machine. Reversadusa is one of the best Pokemon in the tier when supported by Spikes and a long term gameplan to break down the Dark-types that certainly cannot stand up to it. Finally, I discovered Goblantern's incredible versatility as a setup sweep wall akin to Skeledirge with Prankster Twave for speed control.

I don't even really remember this week. My opponent realiZed they lost 6-0 to body press and just gave up. Once again the Copperhead nerfs annihilated the builder so.

I was pretty exhausted of two balance patches in 3 weeks, so I decided to retrofit my previous build rather than find something new. Arsenstorm is a pretty amaZing catchall wall with great utility. Brasspecter was honestly pretty shit into the meta at large thanks to its either lack of recovery + low speed or terrible coverage if you go with Rest Talk, so I somewhat regret that choice. Tox Reversadusa will eventually kill the Dark-Types right? Goblantern and Fettogre as per usual. If i were to make this team again, I'd simply do jackoswarm + badjur for the generically good defensive Steel and play the looooooong game. I lost off a pretty substantial matcha gotcha miss, but that's life baby, and I probably could have dedicated more time to building.

W5 So i thought acupressure coudl tilt my opponent out of their mind. I didn't get helpful boosts and played like shit so I just gave up considering we had playoffs locked. Not very glamorous but I really wasn't enjoying the tier and bro pulled up with the 700 turn stall.

Once again playing Zpice. I actually thought this team was really cool so it was a shame my opponent gave up so quickly. Standard reversadusa, Pivot Bulionage, and spikes badjur. I've gone really back and forth on Drakkannon, but decided that I needed the haZard control alongside a strong source of Fighting pressure, as it can force kills/tough positions for the opponent even when Scarfed thanks to such powerful attacks. Metal Sound JackoSwarm is the most reliable badjur check in the tier and gets rocks reliably, or something. Lavalisk might be kinda cheesy but I wanted a strong out to stally stuff alongside Spikes pressure and it provided a helpful fighting resist for Fettogre.

Frankly complete Ass. I came to the realiation immediately at preview that just grinding him out with Badjur spikes would have been an instantaneous win and was always the correct call in every match. Regardless I basically burned out trying to set up a Kadroke end game, and got an incorrect 5050 towards the end which sealed the game. However he decided to click stealth rock to bm in a finals game and lost immediately to kadroke just running through the rest. Was certainly one of the finals games of all time. If there's anything to take away from thsi game, offense is genuinely and totally unviable.

I always love running back these tournaments with the Daves. I look forward to the quadruple ring next year. I would make specific shoutouts but tht would be disingenuous because I don't remember who my teammates were besides the usual daves.

Regarding the Blank Canvas A catastrophe, I would like to preface by saying I definitely don't envy any of the people who have to balance pet mods. There's so little information to balance a ton of content. However, I think this infamous tournament season is a testament to generally buffing underperforming Pokemon in the interest of more options to handle broken pokemon, rather than a slap on the wrist of the absurdly broken mons, or just killing good pokemon in the crib such as Copperhead. I would genuinely be open to the idea of a runback if issues are addressed, but people seem down on that idea.
