*turns you into a pokemon*

maybe when we have enough of these we can run a tournament where you can only use the sets in this thread. food for thought.

Time for another update to these movesets. There was yet another delay- I'm fully expecting this to become a pattern- but I've got three to get caught up on so let's get to it.

Considering how much I like thought experiments about porting things to other sets of game mechanics, why not? Let's see what you got for me.

:ss/klinklang:

Ironmage (Klinklang) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Magnet Rise
- Shift Gear
- Gear Grind
- Wild Charge

Experiments about porting things to other sets of game mechanics, huh? Do we have the format for you. It took me a little bit to find the kind of Pokémon I wanted to build with, but I think I eventually came across the right one. Let me make something clear for those who might not be in the loop. Pokémon that are based off of real world physical objects are great and I don't think they get nearly enough respect and appreciation. I say that because I remember when you were talking about "Objectmons", as you referred to them as. So, I got to work. An "Objectmon" that could have room for creativity and exploration with the mechanics of other generations. I eventually came up with this physical sweeper set here. It's not too different from what Klinklang usually offers, but the Electric Tera Type and Magnet Rise makes all the difference here. The preferred sequence of turns in a Gen 9 National Dex battle is going to look something like this. Turn one, you're not going to Terastalize just yet and you're going to try and set up Shift Gear. Turn two, your Air Balloon is probably going to be popped by this point, but since you've got a +2 Speed boost from Shift Gear, now you're going to Terastalize and use that extra Speed to go for Magnet Rise. If all goes according to plan, congratulations! You now have an Intimidate-immune physical attacking win condition with no type weaknesses at +1 Attack, +2 Speed, and an effective STAB on both Gear Grind, which can break Sturdy and Focus Sashes, and Wild Charge which can hit deceptively hard with your newly gained STAB, maximum Attack at +1, and Electric's not fantastic but usable complementary type coverage.

the inevitability of someone being assigned maractus makes this a volatile situation...

:bw/maractus:

BIG ASHLEY (Maractus) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Hidden Power: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 Spe
Bold Nature
- Spikes
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off

Maractus was always something of a tragic Pokémon for me. It's less that I dislike this Pokémon. Far from it. Much like Cacnea and Cacturne I think these kinds of Pokémon are excellent flavor additions to the game world. Plus, I have an oddly specific fond memory of the Maractus in PokéPark 2's Seasong Beach of all places. The problems start with its base stats and its typing. Pure Grass-Types have definitely been viable before, don't get me wrong, but there's usually something else being offered in the way of utility in the more well-known cases; or at the very least their base stats are pretty solid. "Slow, frail mixed attacker" might actually be the single worst statistical archetype for a Pokémon to be given since you're really not that good at any one thing. The other reason I say Maractus is a tragic Pokémon is because it's one of those Pokémon that lives in an environment that's actively harmful to it. Most of the Pokémon in Unova's desert biome, specifically outdoors, have some way of being immune to the never ending sandstorms, either in the form of a Ground or Rock typing or, in Sigilyph's case, Magic Guard as an Ability. Unfortunately Maractus was not given such luxury, which is actively depressing to think about given that Hoenn's cactus Pokémon at least have Sand Veil for this. How in any capacity is this Pokémon supposed to do much of anything!?, I asked myself. But to my complete surprise, Maractus actually has a competitive niche in one metagame specifically, and it's not even that bad of a niche either. Turns out this thing is actually quite versatile as a Spikes setter and healing "tank" in Gen 5 PU, currently being ranked in A- in the most recent Viability Rankings for the tier. It even gets Knock Off in a tier with multiple not-fully-evolved Pokémon in it (meaning Eviolite is more common) and can score some key wins against tier staples ranked higher than it such as Marowak (A+, also you get to Knock Off its Thick Club), Stunfisk (A+), fellow Grass-Type Torterra (A), and Zebstrika (A). Speaking as someone who's never played a Gen 9 PU match, this doesn't look like the easiest thing to fit on certain team styles but this is still way, way better than I expected to see when I started researching this Pokémon. Good job, Maractus. I'm proud of you.

This sounds like fun, what do you have for me?

:bw/braviary:

The Gungeon Master (Braviary) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- Superpower
- U-turn

Your profile picture made it pretty easy to pick out which Pokémon to build for you, so I appreciate that. With that said, what I have for you would depend on one thing- which metagame? I narrowed this down to Gen 5 NU, Braviary's debut generation, and Gen 6 RU, which is technically Braviary's most successful tiering placement in the series so far even if its viability in specific tiers above and below RU can fluctuate significantly. Ultimately I decided on Gen 5 NU since, if I recall, Braviary's one of the best offensive threats in the tier as opposed to its solid but not earth shattering B+ Viability Ranking for Gen 6 RU. That, and the game your profile picture is from is a Gen 5 game. Between Braviary's primary sets in the tier I think the Adamant Choice Scarf variant is probably my favorite and the one I think most accurately reflects the strong yet calculated nature of a leader quite literally flying into battle. Historically I've tended to compare this Pokémon to Staraptor from the previous generation, seeing as the two actually have a lot in common with the difference being Starly is found way, WAY earlier in Sinnoh than Rufflet is in the White version of Unova. Speaking of Rufflet, it has Hastle for its Hidden Ability, but this turns into Defiant upon evolution which can see some notable use in both of these generations. I bet a lot more people would like this Pokémon if it wasn't for it and Vullaby's notoriously late evolution levels. In fact, I believe they're tied for the second latest evolution of all Flying-Types just barely behind Dragonite's 55, and if you don't count that because of Dragonair being pure Dragon-Type than they have that title tied between them outright.

I will be revealing the next users I will be building sets for tomorrow evening, so stay tuned! In the meantime, I also wanted to wrap this post up by saying that you guys are totally allowed to make your own movesets for each other, too. In fact, I actually encourage it, since A. it saves me some work (I'm secretly a very lazy person lol) and B. it's just fun to see what you all come up with. Earlier in the thread Let's go shuckles actually beat me to the punch of making a Jynx moveset for phoopes though similar to the Braviary moveset above, I wasn't sure which generation to make it for at first.

So... I lied. Kind of. I got too distracted by the NFL's Hall of Fame game being on last night and completely forgot I was going to do this. Lol.

The next users I will be making sets for will be:

Sijih
des121
Mahmudkipz

And more will be added to my to-do list after that :)

I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to get caught up on more movesets. Some of these are going to be a bit different than others, though. This should be fun :bellipog:
