crudely drawn by me and hosted by the sm moderation team!
In such a rampant, high-activity metagame filled with an incredibly diverse cast of Pokemon, finding a good place to start can be incredibly difficult. If you are interested in trying the metagame but are unable to build any teams of your own due to inexperience with the metagame, this thread is for you. Bear in mind that the tier is constantly developing, so this thread may see changes over time as the metagame shifts toward one playstyle or another.

If you would like to submit a sample team, you are allowed to do so in this thread; however if you do please explain why your team submission in particular would make for a good sample. This can also mean submitting teams that aren't your own, but please be sure to ask for permission before sharing them publicly. Questions regarding teams will also be fielded in this thread. If you have any further or miscellaneous questions, you may also message the SM moderation team.

Hi! With the end of SPL XIII and SMPL I in its early stages, I'm here to submit some teams for samples based on recent meta developments! :sphearical:
  1. Not taking credit on any of the teams shown below. Aside from personal experience and metagame understanding, they are mostly based off of observed trends from recent development in various tours.
  2. The teams are built either similarly with the same 6 or built around a trending core. Even though the same 6 are seen multiple times, they can viably run different set variations, a testament of their capability to adapt. Moreover, some are even built around/with a unique set or strategy.
  3. Some of the teams submitted reflect the current SM OU metagame well, and has seen moderate usage and success.
  4. EV spread will be explained unless it's based on the dex spread or standard max/max.
  5. Should these teams end up archived on the OP, feel free to do any minor tweaks or adjustments to make them even more viable.

:charizard-mega-x::serperior::volcarona::kommo-o::magearna::mew:Zard X Double Fire HO [https://pokepast.es/29da9cf705b912a0]
Serperior has been one of the faces of offenses lately. The amount of utility it provides to these team archetypes are incredible and this team takes advantage of it well. Contrary punishing Defog attempts, Taunt + Rocky Helmet breaks down Chansey to open up Volcarona's sweep, and provides Defog support for both Mega Charizard X and Volcarona, while spreading annoying Glares to open up free turns of setup for the team. Offensively, it can threaten the bulky waters, helping the double fire core. Kommo-o provides Taunt support again, further stopping entry hazard attempts as well as shutting down passive pokemon while being a solid setup sweeper in its own right. The team is pretty much a dedicated lead + 5 setup mons, with the aforementioned 4 members dealing and overloading the steel types and spdef walls for CM Leftovers Magearna to potentially clean late-game.
  • Serperior: Gives 301HP to live 3 Seismic Toss from Chansey.
  • Showcases the under-used Mega Charizard X, which has not been in any of the sample teams yet.
  • Showcases the trendy offensive core of Volcarona+utility Serperior+Magearna.
  • The same 6 has been used a lot to huge success (1 2 3[Aegislash allowed])

:diancie-mega::volcarona::serperior::magearna::suicune::cresselia: SubSwarm Volc + Vincune Offense [https://pokepast.es/572e78ac85ef7831]
What is worse than having to fight a Suicune? 2 Suicunes! Other than Cresselia's defensive profile by providing a much appreciated ground immunity, its main niche comes from Lunar Dance which gives the team's setup pokemon a 2nd life. Notably to Suicune, which thanks to Pressure, can PP stall even more pokemon like Chansey and Toxapex. Hence, draining all of their PPs allow SubSwarm Volcarona to setup and win games easier. Volcarona is further support by Mega Diancie and utility Serperior again, both of which provides hazard control with Magic Bounce and Defog respectively. Moreover, the former runs a Sub+Endeavor set while the latter carries Taunt+Rocky Helmet, both of which help keep Chansey low. Double dance Magearna rounds out the team as another offensive setup sweeper that can help overlwhelm Heatran. Hence, this team can easily punish the standard fat teams that consist of Mega Lati+Pex+Chansey+Steel.
  • Volcarona: Lives +2 Earthquake from SD Gliscor & Knock Off from CB Kartana, OHKOes Garchomp with +2 Bug Buzz, and outspeed Mega Alakazam at +1.
  • Serperior: Gives 301HP to live 3 Seismic Toss from Chansey.
  • Cresselia: Outspeeds base 100s with Choice Scarf.
  • Showcases the DiaVolc core which has not been in any of the samples yet.
  • Showcases the unique Sub+Swarm Volcarona set.
  • Showcases the trendy offensive core of Volcarona+utility Serperior+Magearna.
  • Though it uses niche pokemon like Suicune and Cresselia, the same 6 has been used a lot to moderate success (1 2 3)

**The core of Volcarona+utility Serperior+Magearna is seen in even more teams, sometimes supported with Mega Diancie as well, and we've seen this combination in other team variations, such as with the niche Dragonite! (1 2)**

:sableye-mega::chansey::skarmory::gliscor::volcarona::weavile:SD Gliscor + Bulkarona Balance [https://pokepast.es/1cdc58de31695641]
The team is built around the setup core of SD Gliscor + bulky Volcarona, the former deals with Heatran and Toxapex while the latter can melt the steel types in return. They are supported by a fat defensive backbone of Mega Sableye+SkarmChans that provides utility, notably Magic Guard + Defog to help alleviate Volcarona and Weavile's Stealth Rock weakness. This allows Volcarona to take advantage of its defensive profile, and by running a bulky variant it can more freely switch into (and potentially punish them with a Flame Body burn) the likes of Kartana, Mega Scizor, and Mega Mawile, which can otherwise destroy the team (Skarmory can kinda phaze them out but can't threaten them in return, and it gets worse when Magnezone is involved). Aside from being a solid speed control, Weavile can Pursuit trap Mega Lati twins to open up SD Gliscor's sweep, as well as a Choice-locked Tapu Lele and Victini which can potentially destroy the team. Moreover, with Mega Sableye running Knock Off, Weavile can afford to run Punishment to cleanly OHKO +6 Manaphy.
  • Volcarona: Outspeeds positive base 95s.
  • Showcases Mega Sableye, which has not been in any of the samples yet. Moreover, it gives an insight on how Mega Sabeleye teams can shift to more towards balances like this instead of the traditional stall teams that it is usually found exclusively in.
  • Showcases the balanced core of SD Gliscor+Weavile, which has seen very high usage throughout SPL.
  • The same 6 has been used quite a bit (1 2)

:mawile-mega::kartana::magnezone::gliscor::chansey::slowbro:Mega Mawile + Wish Chansey Balance [https://pokepast.es/f1238d38fa298574]
Mega Mawile is usually supported by things like voltturn and screens. However, this team takes a more defensive approach with Wish Chansey, providing Mega Mawile with longevity which allows it to trade attacks with the enemy more liberally and thus wallbreak more frequently. Slowbro makes for a niche pick as a solid answer to the likes of Mega Medicham and Hawlucha, and pairs perfectly with Chansey. Kartana runs a unique utility set, being the team's Defogger that matches up well against common Stealth Rock users (Garchomp, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Ferrothorn), and also offensively check Manaphy and Mega Tyranitar, which Z-Leaf Blade makes easier. Magnezone can run Thunder Wave to slow faster threats for Mega Mawile, or Flash Cannon to immediately threaten Tapu Bulu. But most importantly, it helps remove defensive steel types for Mega Mawile, and thanks to its Choice Scarf can dispose off opposing Kartana to stop it from destroying the team. Hence, this frees up Slowbro's moveslot from running Flamethrower, allowing it to run Future Sight which can help Mega Mawile's wallbreaking potential even further.
  • Kartana: OHKOes Garchomp with Bloom Doom.
  • Showcases Mega Mawile in a different team archetype other than its standard offense and/or voltturn.
  • Showcases the niche Slowbro, especially moreso with Future Sight.
  • Showcases utility Kartana.
  • The same 6 has been used a lot to decent success (1 2 similar variations: 3 4)

Hey just wanted to point a couple of things out:
-The Scizor Weavile BO EV spreads seem a bit messed up, probably an import error, you definitely wanna run some bulk on Zor and Tran and some SpD on Fini
-This version of the Lopunny Fini BO is mine (if I get it right Empo’s include Z-Drake Chomp and Smart Strike Kartana), the one z0mog submitted had Z-Fly Lando over Chomp
-I’m not sure if the Psyspam and xtra Volturn can be properly talking Hyper Offenses teams, but the Fairy Spam being in this category makes more sense
-Out of all the 5 teams with Latias, one should include the Calm Mind set, this set is a staple in the metagame

Anyway thanks a lot for updating the thread, these sample teams are much more representative of the meta than the former ones!

hey, I'm trying to play some gen 7 ou, does anyone have the link or remember the sets for wish killer's gen7 ou team with mega venusaur, bisharp, chansey, keldeo, skarmory, and heatran?

Hi, I want to submit 2 teams for the SM OU Sample Thread. One is mine and the other one is from Grenijo (on discord, his smogon name is BlackSiphon i think). He accept that i can submit his team here 'cause he actually can't do it.

Screen HO + Volc Iapapa :tapu koko: :excadrill: :magearna: :hawlucha: :gyarados-mega: :volcarona:
https://pokepast.es/c871b323ca7531e6
This is the Grenijo team.

-> :tapu koko: Standard Screens set up. Tapu Koko help Magearna for his z-move and hawlucha to activate unburden and his electric see, for double his speed. Classic. This invest is for outspeed Weavile. The other EVs is put on HP and attack by default.

-> :excadrill: Classic Suicide lead. His role is simple: put sr and spin for Volcarona. He has Mold Breaker for OHKO Rotom, and Rock tomb for Tornadus-T, Landorus Max speed...

-> :magearna: Starting with the 1st set up sweeper, one of the best in Screen, Magearna Double Dance. Thist set can easily sweep a game, or do a lot of damage in the opposing team for open the way for Hawlucha or another Poke (Volc). His Electrium Z boosted by the terrain elec is uncheckable (without a ground type) at +2.

-> :hawlucha: Hawlucha is one of te best abuser on screen. Substitue is here for Block burn, poison or para by toxapex, Magearna, Rotom... and other thing like leech seed of celesteela. This invest if for outspeed sand rush excadrill.

-> :gyarados-mega: this is our mega for the team. its simple, with Taunt + Dragon Dance, he can 6-0 Stall if we weak Skarmory and Sableye with the sr and some damages. Waterfall is better for me then Crunch, because vs Rain, this is boosted so it can be an advantage, and its touch more pokemon than we need to touch.

-> :volcarona: Finally, a little bit obvious but a big big big monster, Volcarona. With the Iapapa Berry, we can had a big heal in the mid/late game if your oppo sacrified 2 of his poke to make you into a range of Priority. With HP ground, he is not Block by heatran and hat +2, this is the K.O. We can Giga drain but idk what its better than HP Ground.

2nt team: This one is my own Property.
Grass Spam + Hawlucha Bit Bulky Sweeper BO :tapu bulu: :kartana: :heatran: :hawlucha: :rotom-wash: :landorus-therian:
https://pokepast.es/dc4fce6994568a3e

-> :tapu bulu: This is our Grassy Terrain setter. With the Fight Z, this is a good solution vs Stall and fat. With Swords Dance, and his coverage attack (Stone edge and Superpower), he can pass the fire, water, steel, fly and dark poke (Tornadus, Heatran...). This invest if for tank 2 Hydro Pumps of Ash-Gren after the Grassy terrain heal and outspeed rotom-wash with 4 EVs of speed.

-> :kartana: Kartana is here for Revenge Kill Tapu Koko, lele, fini... With his Choice scarf, he outspeed Blacephalon and Keldeo with the Same Item. His coverage touch a lot of type and its good in this metagame. A classic spread here. We can note the Grassy terrain boost also leaf blade, so Kartana is a really Good Cleaner.

-> :heatran: A classic Spdef Tank Heatran here. With his speed, he outspeed all of the M-Mawile but also base 50 speed Modest/Adamant. He is our check VS Psyspam, tapu lele scarf, Magearna sweeper... He has also the Fire immunity with Flash Fire for bulu and Kartana. Earthquake of Lando is reduct by 50% so Heatran can tank it and Kill with Magma Storm.

-> :hawlucha: This hawlucha is a little bit strange with his spread, but let me explain. With 172 Evs in HP and 48 in SpDef, Scald of toxapex can't break the sub so we can set up on Toxapex. His speed allowed you to alaways outspeed sand rush excadrill, but also full Speed Lando without Unburden. We lost a little bit of damage but that's not really a problem. Hawlucha still the G.O.A.T

-> :landorus-therian: How we can't talk about Landorus-Therian in a SM OU BO team ? I don' know ! The def set is the best because it check Lopunny-M and Medicham-M (without Ice punch). His Rocky Helmet punish u-turn of other Lando, koko, gren... HP Ice is for Weaken Garchomp, Gliscor and 2HKO other Landorus-Therian.

-> :rotom-wash: Finnaly, our last poke, Rotom. With Pain Split + Lefto, he can better check Swampert, Tornadus... With Thunder Wave, he can also block Zard X DD and Volcarona QD, and also have the para haxx chance. Volt Swicth is for Pivoting. Defog is not used becauase we already have it in the Lando set.

hi. i want to submit my team, which is my first team on this meta game

https://pokepast.es/57dc67b26fd954d2

koko+tyrna-m+kart / 3 utillity cushion ( toad+heat+lando t) offense

Crying.png
tyran is main offense core of this team, which can speed control + raise attack at same time. this mon help to secure koko's consistency and kart consistency by 3type attack movement. and thanks to its bulcky weight, it can endure weakness movement like a land t eq, garchomp eq, grenja-surf-ash-spece etc, which can be obstacle of the rest of team , and kill them at face to face or use dd to make sweep movement.
and here is tips for using this mon

fist, check out opponent movement+item+evs that can be threat this mon
two. take a advance face to use dd, like a fini ( no spa ) clef ( gaurd+lo+no twave) or A Pokemon with a fixed mov by choice series
three. if ur oppenent allow two dd, u almot kill them all or breakdown, or 1 dd, just kill opponent that may be hazard on elec consistency or kart sweep
four, deal trade opponent to make elec consistency or kart sweep.

Determined.png
koko is great runnig mate of tyran and kart, and because of magnet, opponent don't anticipate dealing of this mon or make for opponent to misunderstand sample like a modest scarf, even speces. he is a all out attaker and electriv pivot. and because of fast speed, u can kill all of them at first that drilled by tran or kart.
and i use nature madness to damage Magearna, heat, excadrill, land, gliscor, ferro etc.. and it make easier the sweep of other attacker.
+) i dont prefer use roost, because it is mean that u can free turn to opponent by click this move, despite this team's playstyle is offense

Normal (1).png
lando-t is best option of this metagame. it is assembly of decent damage, proper speed, great utillity, good move like stealth rock, turn , knock off , defog... etc.. and rocky helmet is cli·ché of lando item to accumulate damage physical attacker and force to switch to p-attacker. and accumulated damage make easier to attaker sweep, because 3 attacker have flaw type-limit movement or damage
it check out tyran, opponent lando's item and mov, av tangrowth , swarmpert-mega with seismi, and especially scarf kart, medicham( have a risk) seismi, charizard-x, and block electric consistency of opponent, remove hazard of my field and it protect other pokemon, which is vunerlable to hazard like t-spikes, spikes, rock.

speed index) outspeed jolly 252 crawnaut

Normal (2).png
seismi is suck at offense. i dont like this pokemon but it is unavoild that use this mon at this team. I think it's almost essential to win con to use seismi well. seismi basically plays a lot of roles such as installing a rock, lando checking, heat checking, blocking water mov (especially ash grenja), toxic, checking out swarmpert in the rain, blocking electric mov( volt switch ), getting light physical move+ getting a face-to-face advantage through sitrus at this party. And since normal seismi ( h+ d ) can't be physically checked, i invest evs to h and b to make this possible, and I thought that would cause problems in the role desigend originally (block water), so I gave sitrus to play that role. This team is offens anyway, so I think it's enough to check or block mov once or twice.
I think one of the winning requirements of this party is to take resources that can be extracted from seismi as much as possible, but to use seismi appropriately if you have to keep seismi alive.

speed index) outspeed normal magearna

Normal.png
i love heat because this mon has great utillity. fire movement, break down stall and balance, very good protective type, proper speed and good damage. but normally use is just spd tank utiility, rarely spa+spe z cristal move, and I didn't think this was the right form for both of my team. former is defensive and great utillity against stall. but it is slow, so we must retreat vs slow lando, and slow gliscor, crawgnaut, etc.. (mid range speed attacker), and cause burden of switched pokemon that dont have harden defensive ability+no recover mov. The latter is the standard way to use fast heat, but it bothered me that it was very vulnerable to hazards, that it was easy to infer tools, and that the durability became very poor, making it difficult to fully utilize the utility. so i use hp+speed fast heat+leftovers deal with this problem. and also to breakdown magic guard fat + healbell chans, change toxic>>taunt, to beat down slow gliscor ( jolly+24d), rocky land and admant z lando+admant drill ( sand usage ), i run fast heat and use hp ice.

Crying (1).png
just scarf kart, nd don't need explation, right?

win con mainly 3
1. tyran sweep (hmm...i think It comes out moderately, vs like a bo or ho).
2. elect bommm + kart finish ( main )
3. heat finish or breakdown ( vs stall and balance )

and 1 and 2 is interdependent, and to do this, u must handle out skillfully 3 utillity to opponent's attack and scratch out opponent pokemon through scald, eq, turn, r rock-h, storm

recommend reason

1. This team is advantageous against most BO opponents (depending on whether U control or not, but if U successfully control it, you usually win), they also perform well against ho (some of them are very disadvantageous.. but..almost is ok)

2. i think this team has more utility than the regular ho, it is faster in tempo and has more potential than the regular bo.

3. AND FIRST OF ALL, just FUN. You force your opponent to make two double-edged choices, and you, who use this team, also have to weigh in between a stable move and gamble move appropriately. So I'm confident that the process of making the game and ending up with it is going to be a lot of fun. If you know how to use this team skillfully, you'll use other Offense teams very skillfully.

And I've done 1700 with this team many times (though I can't be proud of it...), I've done three 1800s, and peak #2 ladde going to second place at second time (182x)

I decided to post my first sample, here's how it looks :

https://pokepast.es/a56951ab022885ea

748.png
Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability:
Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Bold
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze
- Recover
- Scald
Toxapex is one of the best mon to keep at the core. Toxic spikes put pressure on bulky and passive teams, its a great hazard to chip Pokémon which creates problems like Kyurem B, Hoopa-Unbound, Char X, Victini, etc.Second, I put haze to counter Pokémon like Mega Scizor, Char X, Volcarona and most importantly Hawlucha because with this team, you have to play very carefully around it and have to not let it set up.

kartana-256x256.png
Kartana @ Fightinium Z
Ability:
Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- Swords Dance
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off
- Leaf Blade

The main idea to give it fightinuim z was to break skarmory with +2 fightinium z, so that you can put pressure with Tapu bulu and kartana on opposing team, also, fightinuim z is not very likely to be expected, thus can be really good in surprising the opponent.

787.png
Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
Ability:
Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 224 SpD / 36 Spe
Nature: Careful
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Synthesis

First, the evs spread, 248HP and 224 SpD is to counter Mega Alakazam and also Modest specs lele, tapu bulu lives at more than 50% after it takes hits from Lele and zam from full because of grassy terrain and leftovers recovery. Gave it synthesis to recover its hp back on their switch so that it can later tank another hit from them, sd horn leech is good after skarm is dead. After tspikes are up, it creates problem to the opposing team and eventually make them lose their momentum.

248_f2.png
Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability:
Sand Stream
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Spe
Nature: Adamant
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge
- Crunch

Next up we have Mega tyranitar, I'd suggest to bring this bad boy out during the late games for a clean sweep, but in some bad situations like if your toxapex is low, then it can tank choice band victini hits, tapu lele in case you dont have a healthy switch in for it, you can predict Psychic and switch to tyranitar.

145.png
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability:
Static
EVs: 248 HP / 188 Def / 72 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost
- Volt Switch
- Defog

Zapdos, pretty usual set with defog for hazard removals, hp ice for Landorus-T and Garchomp and volt switch for gaining momentum and allowing entries for other Pokémon.

537.png
Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Ability:
Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Nature: Sassy
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Refresh

Seismitoad is a great stealth rocker in the current meta, my main idea to make it special defensive was mainly because of the fact that toxapex needed to be physically defensive on this team. Seismitoad tanks hits from Mega Zam, acts as Electric immunity, can always be a switch in against rotom-wash.Refresh makes it even better so that it cannot lose hp at all vs rotoms (or toxapex if not knock off)

THREATS TO THE TEAM -

Most of the mons are manageable like Kyurem B, Tapu Lele etc. We have to play around with toxapex and seismitoad infront of kyurem b (z move) and tyranitar and tapu bulu against tapu lele.

Main threats are :
Sand team with excadrill set: Rock slide eq swords dance iron head, which is very rare since its mostly rapid spin in place of rock slide.
Hoopa-unbound : Need to get tspikes up so that hoopa gets chipped by tspikes, there are very few switch ins vs that.
Mega latias/latios : it would be tough to handle them if Tyranitar is low or in range of Ice beam after +1 calm mind by lati.
Magearna : We need to be careful of magearna, need to scout if its z electric so that our toxapex just don't die for no reason, otherwise everything else should be good.
Serperior : Serp is pretty annoying to face as there is very little counterplay for it, we cant do much except stalling leaf storms with zap or tapu bulu, need to be very careful around it.

It's a pretty solid team overall, can be used during tournament matches to surprise your opponent with the moves.

I'm back here with an Hyper Offense team this time :

https://pokepast.es/e66ef907bae11b22

1751381107334.png
Volcarona @ Psychium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Psychic
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Psychium z for toxapex, made it modest because of a lot of toxapex usage along with heatran, people don't really expect it to be hp ground + z psychic. This could trick a few opponents and volc can sweep them easily.

1751381085643.png
Diancie-Mega @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Endeavor
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Substitute

Mega diancie with sub endeavor rocks set can be really good to set the starting hazards especially infront of Landorus-t, diancie lives an eq (non-mega) and can stealth rock on it. After setting up srocks wew can deal damage by endeavor. This can potentially lead to a good start as we would have hazards on opp's field but they won't.

545.png

Scolipede @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Megahorn
- Endeavor

Another lead hazards setter, Tspikes + spikes. My main idea to put scolipede in this team because I wanted to make an hazards pressure team and sweeping with dnite and magearna in the late games.

1751379879789.png
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Dragon Dance

A bulky dnite in screens with dd, eq, roost and ice punch can be really good in my opinion. I have tested this team and this dnite was a big threat to most of the teams, as it tanks a lot a of damage in screens + roost into multiscale helps a lot too.

1751380183123.png
Serperior @ Light Clay
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Glare
- Taunt

No attack screens setter. I put taunt in there to avoid getting defogged which would lead into the removal of all the hazards which we deployed.
Keeping all of our hazards on the field then setting screens without letting the opponent defog would be really great for us since hazards would deal a lot of damage (Stealth rock + spikes + tspikes).

1751380446365.png

Magearna @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 HP / 40 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shift Gear
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind

Last but definitely not the least is Magearna, another sweeper, shift gear and calm mind with ice beam tbolt checks everything.
It is really very strong in the screens and also with Iapapa berry which would increase our health back even if we lose some while setting up.
I'd suggest to start setting up with magearna in the late games because there's a high chance of our opponent's team to be chipped by the hazards and thus we can deal damage and probably OHKO them after 2-3 calm mind.

Problem :
In H.O teams, it is very possible that the whole team won't have switches against a particular mon, so it might be tough to manage but that's the case with hyper offensive teams.

Hi, here's my sample! This is the team I use 99% of the time for Gen 7 OU. Posting it to see if anyone else is crazy enough to try it or if anyone is able to improve it.

Team Name: The Frontier Brain

Why this Team? This team is a Swiss army knife for Gen 7 OU. Used wisely, it can solve almost any problem caused by sample builds and common OU mons. It's extremely fun and engaging to play with (and very rewarding to win with), so it would make a great team for players who love and appreciate the game's RNG, love making technical plays, or just want to easily clean sweep. Played correctly, it can shine in match ups against Trick Rooms, Terrains, Weather, fast mons, slow mons, Fake Out mons, Stealth Rocks, and Toxic Spikes. And there's ample room for misplay recovery to boot.

First Glance: On the surface, this team looks predictable, and thats by design. Galvantula is an electric type sticky web setter (plus more ;)) - seems simple enough. Excadrill is a fast strong physical ground type with EQ right? (lol EQ?) Charizard could be X or Y, but once revealed to be X, opponents expect max speed flare blitz, not slightly defensive EVs with fire punch, nor do they expect thunder-punch to hit their water types. "Breloom huh? Wow, weird to see someone using technician in gen 7 OU, but ok". This mistake can hurt peoples ego. (Poison heal ;)). Greninja is deliberately Male to make opponents assume its Ash Greninja, but it's protean instead. And finally Linoone is the wild card. If you know, you know (but most people don't see last resort coming). Team typing is specific to maximize safe switches in the Landorus T metagame, given the glass canon team composition. Looks aside, this team can duke it out in 100+ turn battles. (Fun fact - no two mons share the same type, and they're color coordinated because I'm OCD)

Example of switch safety: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2266732877

Team Style: This build is a calculated offensive team. Each mon can hit hard with at least one attack, and all mons but Charizard have options to either assist or revenge KO for party members. Additionally, all major status problems (Sleep 100% with Spore, Severe Poisoning 90% with Toxic, Paralyze 30% with Thunder, Freeze 10% with Ice Beam, and Burn 10% with Fire Punch) are all possible to inflict with this team, granting multiple options to overcome both hyper-offensive opponents and stall based opponents. Moves like Sticky Web, Stealth Rocks, and Leech Seed force opponents to play into your hand making their next turn more predictable, and allowing for that one turn needed to turn the tides.

Every team member putting in work: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2287734349-ziv4nkwh767mmhtsqzek0im6apb330tpw

RNG perks: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2287805409

Team Strategy: The main strategy of this team is to Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome...

Step 1 - Improvise: There are three main leads: Galvantula is the primary lead. It can set up webs, allowing for Breloom to set up mid game; additionally, Sticky Web allows Greninja to outspeed mons like Choice Scarf Tapu Lele or Choice Scarf Kartana. Greninja, when it's chosen as a lead, can Dark Pulse lead Mew, and can hurt lead Espeon, a mon which counters Galvantula. Another Greninja specialty is the ability to counter lead Kommo-o; if you see that mon, always lead Greninja into Ice Beam, because the team has no fairy types to neutralize Clangorous Soulblaze. Lead Excadrill is the go to Choice for Mega Sabelye encounters. Use Mold Breaker Toxic on turn 1 & Stealth Rocks turn 2 - you'll thank me later. Even Breloom can lead into mons like Smeargle, Shuckle, and Tyranitar, setting up right away with Spore.

How to early game: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2281386017-d51prxra3qy5s6y3gcpmkaikk630xbtpw

Step 2 - Adapt: In the midgame, you can burn Excadrill's eject button, swap to Breloom to set up Poison Heal, or test out your oppents power and speed with Charizard. You can also swap back into Excadrill to set up Stealth Rocks. Whatever you do, just make sure its optimal and saves your best mons (ie. not Galvantula and Excadrill) for the lategame. Chip whenever and however, and set up with Breloom or Charizard to deal damage. Be ready to lose Charizard in the midgame, but try to avoid it. You'll want to almost never want to sack Breloom. It's usually extremely valuable in the late game. And never underestimate the power of Linoone.

Capitalizing on Scarf Rotom: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2280818487-c1cra8j1z6x2cnlwpft62t5on4afcekpw

Step 3 - Overcome: It only takes one turn. Bank everything on setting up that one turn of outplaying and setting up. Breloom, Charizard, and especially Linoone are your win conditions, so pick one early on in the game, and after collecting data, take every necessary step to set up your sweeper. Steal mons that your opponent doesn't know are important for later. Force switches into Focus Punches. Bleed HP with Leech Seed, and D Dance, Belly Drum, or 2 v 1 with Breloom while your opponent is backed into a corner. WIN AT ALL COSTS.

Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sticky Web
- Thunder
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Galvantula is the second-best Sticky Web Setter in the game, outclassed only by Ribombee. That said, it has some major upside that Ribombee doesn't. First off, it has Compound Eyes Thunder, a devastating combo. Thunder hits hard, but not always hard enough, so that 30% chance of paralysis comes in clutch sometimes. Add in the fact that you rarely miss, and this is a great start to an aggressive team. This spider can deal major damage right off the bat to rain teams if you predict the switch to Swampert correctly with Energy Ball. And into lead Landorus, Galvantula can set up Sticky webs turn 1, read whether Lando is slow or fast, and then counter with HP Ice or swap into another mon if needed. Things to watch out for include Stealth Rock/Fake Out teams with Hawlucha in the back. You'll want to save the focus sash in order to hit Hawlucha with an OHKO Thunder later in the game. So to save Focus Sash...see the next mon below!

excadrill.jpeg

Excadrill @ Eject Button
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Def / 24 SpD / 32 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin

(Before I get into it here, I gotta say that Excadrill is the MASTER of neutralizing Mega Sabeleye. You can make that mon look silly if you read it right. Mold Breaker is severely underrated.)

Excadrill runs Eject Button mainly to save Galvantula's bacon. On a turn 1 vs Mega Loppuny or Mega Medicham, you'll want to swap Galvantula into Excadrill to eat Fake Out, collect data, and switch to a better Pokemon for the job. Eject button also has utility against players who think they can set up against you. You can set up Stealth Rocks & Toxic while an opponent like Latias or Reuniclus begins to Calm Mind, and then you can eat a hit and freely swap into Greninja, Linoone, or Breloom.

The downside is that to use Excadrill against offensive mons, you need to first burn the Eject Button, which can be difficult to do optimally sometimes. If you can burn the button though, Excadrill makes an excellent Mimikyu counter with Mold Breaker Iron Head on a Swords Dance read. The most difficult problem is the fact that the team's only hard counter to Magic Guard Clefable is Excadrill, who can one shot with Iron Head, so watch out for those pesky stall teams running Clefable. If you're not worried about getting burned, bully Sableye with Toxic, and then switch to Breloom on the Chansey swap read to prevent heals for Clefable. This is the team's least useful mon, so be willing to can it to set up something else if you have to. Remember this is a Calculated Offensive team, so be willing to collect information - it will be worth it later.

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 228 Atk / 27 Def / 12 SpD / 241 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch

If you don't want to think too much, we have a good old fashioned sweeper here. Charizard does what a Charizard is gonna do. It dances, it hits, it KO's. Thunder punch can deal damage against Toxapex, usually forcing a Regenerator switch and giving reads, and it can also hurt Heatran. Make sure to D Dance whenever you can! Get crazy with it, and play just a tad recklessly sometimes. Oh, but watch out for Tyranitar & Landorus!

breloom.jpeg

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 232 Atk / 48 Def / 228 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Focus Punch

Are you tired of getting pushed around by Stone Edge Tyranitar? Need an answer to Landorus' constant intimidates, Earthquakes, and Stealth Rocks? Has Heatran walled your Charizard one too many times? Well have I got the mon for YOU! This Breloom build is GOATED, and there's no doubt in my mind that in a world without Sleep Clause, it would be banned. First you Spore, then your Toxic Orb activates. You Substitute next turn, and then you either leech seed or Focus Punch. Whether you're faster or slower than your opponent matters a lot, so be smart about the way you use Substitute. If you play it right, you can maximize your odds of getting a KO, and staying behind Substitute for when the next mon comes in. This mon can and will deal with Tornadus, Serperior, Landorus, Heatran, Latias, Tyranitar, Mega Alakazam, Charizard X & Y, Celesteela, Magnezone, Magearna, Cresselia, Kyurem, Keldeo, Hoopa, Bisharp, Mawile, and more. This is the MVP of the team, so only let it die if you have no other choice.

Advantages: This mon can take advantage of Roost turns for double damage Focus Punches against Flying types like Charizard or Skarmory, Substitute stall terrains and weather, and Leech Seed stall Intimidate mons that attempt to stand in its way. If you see a Chansey, sieze every opportunity to Focus Punch it. Rotom Wash is a non-threat, and Ditto is beatable if you're already behind Substitute when it switches in.
Ex: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-2273374680

Threatening mons include: Tapu Koko, Ferrothorn, Sylveon/Mega Gardevoir (Hyper Voice), Volcorona (Bug Buzz), Infiltrator Chandelure/Crobat, Kommo-o (Clangorous Soulblaze), and Hoopa (Hyperspace Hole). Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball can ruin the strategy, so swap stall the bugger out of G Balls, and then set up and go for KO. For Tapu Koko, substitute stall until Electric Terrain wears off, and then Spore. Sylveon and Mega Gardevoir hard counter. Take advantage of Sticky Webs to Spore them and then tag out. Hoopa is beatable, but be careful with Hyperspace Hole. You can one shot Hoopa with Focus Punch on a switch read, so play it smart! Infiltrator Chandelure & Crobat are devils...RUN! Volcorona is menacing, but can be beaten with smart Sporing, and good switches. Be mindful of Bug Buzz though. And lastly, the occasional Landorus T with Flyinium Z and Gliscor with Acrobatics should be in the back of your mind until debunked.

How to set up: In general, you can play around Defog, Earthquake, and U-Turn reads to set up against Landorus, freely switch into Toxapex without getting burned by Scald, or sit on most stallers and out stall them. Three awkward stall match ups are Venusaur, Tangrowth, and Gliscor, but team composition helps with these situations. Against Trick Room teams, this is the mon of choice - just be careful battling Alolan Marowak. For answers to most of Brelooms problems, see the next mon!

greninja.png

Greninja (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Ice Beam

Greninja is my Clutch Mon. This guy will finish the job that other mons started. Water Shuriken is a necessary priority move for fighting those dummy fast mons. Dark Pulse can handle a few psychic threats, including Mega Alakazam. Ice Beam will KO mons like Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, Kommo'o, Landorus, Garchomp, and Serperior. And Surf is just a good move. You already know that. The only thing that makes this Grenja special is Life Orb for that extra kick to get the job done. Protean with Life Orb keeps the STAB that would otherwise be lost with Battle Bond, so this Greninja hits harder. The speed loss isn't a problem with webs on the team.
linoone.jpeg

Linoone @ Figy Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Def / 4 SpD / 228 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Last Resort
- Protect

And finally, the team's true hero. Barring ghost types, this mon can 1 to 2 shot just about anything besides Mega Aggron, and just FYI it works best after Landorus has been taken care of. Your best bet is to take advantage of a Tapu Fini's Defog, and then set up Belly Drum into E Speed. Then when the opps switch into their next mon, use Protect to unlock Last Resort. If you outspeed, use Last Resort; if you don't, use 6x E Speed. Magearna in your face? Just click Last Resort. If you're about to get Fake Out swap stalled by Loppuny or Medicham, use Protect into 6x E Speed. If a Whirlwind is coming from Skarmory, use Last Resort. If you're up against Toxapex before setting up, swap to Breloom to avoid Haze. If you're battling Heatran, click Last Resort. BUT, if you see a Kartana, you'll want to either run or E Speed it and sacrifice Linoone. This mon is user friendly and VERY enemy antagonizing. Have fun!

Peace out & have some WILD battles!

Edit:

Team Weaknesses:
-Double Intimidate teams
-Mega Pinsir (make sure it gets caught in webs and to keep Greninja healthy)
-Hydro Pump Ash Greninja if it gets momentum
-Speed Boost Sharpedo
-Mega Charizard X if it gets momentum
-Ditto (Make sure Ditto transforms into Breloom, substitute until they're out of Focus Punches and you win)
-Unaware Clefable (fight it with Breloom or Excadrill)
-Magic Guard Clefable (fight it with Linoone or Excadrill)
-Lead Ribombee (There's no solid answer)
-Mega Alakazam (don't let it Trace Compound Eyes!)

Hello, here are some fun and interesting teams that I've made:

:Buzzwole::Magearna::Tapu-Fini::Landorus-Therian::Latias-Mega::Kartana: Buzzwole BO [https://pokepast.es/bdfba1d267c35cb5]

Buzzwole is the star of this show, and the team is built around it to support it. I've always been a big preacher of Buzz's viability, and making a team with him, I knew I wanted to place him as part of the defensive core. Buzzwole+AV Mag+Bold Tapu Fini is a great core that shells up each others weaknesses very well, and combined with Landorus-T, keeps almost all of the metagame in check. Buzzwole and AV Magearna almost perfectly compliment each others weaknesses, and buzzwole being an immense physical wall appreciates a special wall as good as Magearna. Tapu Fini works to take the fire attacks from things like Volcarona and Zard-X, and act as a great check to Ash-Gren. The combination of Lando + physically defensive Fini keeps hawlucha at bay, so against a hawlucha HO it is imperative to keep Fini healthy. Specially defensive Lando is used to help against PsySpam hyper offense, as Magearna can eventually get overwhelmed over the course of a game. It can be used to tank one strong special hit (from a zam or lele), and finish off KOs or get much needed chip. It also helps at dealing with heatran. Setup Mega-Latias and Kartana form a strong breaking core, that can overwhelm stall teams after patient play. They work well with the two pivots against offense teams as well.

  • Buzzwole outspeeds rotom-wash, 36 SpDef lets it always live uninvested clefable moonblast after rocks
  • 28 Defense on Magearna lets it live medicham HJK and landorus EQ, 30 speed IVs lets it be slower than opposing magearna
  • 156 Defense Bold lets Fini live 2 medicham zen headbutts, 16 Speed lets it outspeed cresselia, 32 SpA lets it OHKO hawlucha with moonblast
  • 180 SpDef Careful lets Lando live 1 specs lele psychic, 4 Speed outspeeds modest magnezone, 4 attack guarantees the 2HKO on 252 Def Bold toxapex with black sludge
  • Landorus is the knock off user on my team, HP Ice isnt very necessary due to how good my team already is into Lando, Gliscor and Garchomp
  • 8 SpA lets Latias 2HKO specially defensive toxapex after 1 calm mind, with no black sludge
  • 24 SpDef on Kartana allows it to live 1 mega-diancie moonblast after rocks

:Landorus-Therian::Beedrill-Mega::Ferrothorn::Rotom-Wash::Victini::Greninja-Ash: Beedrill VoltTurn HO [https://pokepast.es/e14421bbd8385a05]

I challenged myself to make a team with Mega-Beedrill, which is a mon I've always liked but never been able to get right. It certainly has a lot of issues, the main ones being a rock weakness and a bad matchup into the most common mon in the tier, Landorus. The way I attempted to eliminate these weaknesses were by pairing it up with landorus, rotom-wash and ferrothorn. Both beedrill and ferrothorn are equipped with knock off, and this is mean to remove rocky helmets from lando, zapdos and tornadus respectively. Beedrill is a good lure for lando, ferro is a good lure for tornadus, and both are good for luring in zapdos, so knocking off on the switch will significantly improve beedrills long-term value. Landorus and rotom not only form a very common pivot core, but a double defog core as well, which further increases beedrills longevity and allows setup victini in at full hp. Victini and ash-greninja are common mons on volt turn teams that can take great advantage of pivoting in for free, as well as hazard removal.
  • Beedrill uses toxic-spikes over pursuit or drill run to make its matchup into opposing offense teams better ─ if the opposing team has multiple u-turn punishers (landorus, tornadus, ferrothorn, zapdos, etc.), then clicking t-spikes on the potential switches is much better value. Beedrill acts as a toxic spikes absorber against toxapex/greninja, which is a great addition to an offense team

:Camerupt-Mega::Weavile::Tapu-Bulu::Tornadus-Therian::Cresselia::Toxapex: Camerupt + Bulu Offense [https://pokepast.es/be9b1b7ae3f5b4aa]

Mega-Camerupt is used for its great matchup into virtually every electric type/volt switch user in the tier. Its practically a free switch-in into the likes of magearna, zapdos, magnezone and tapu koko, due to its typing also giving it a resist to these mons coverage moves. The goal of this team is to get camerupt in to hit things as hard as possible, as its fire blast and earth power are really hard to switch into. Weavile is able to pursuit trap the lati twins and slowbro, which are the best checks for camerupt in the game, as well as being a great cleaner once camerupt has worn down or killed things like magearna, toxapex, mega scizor and koko. Tapu Bulu gives camerupt grass coverage, which allows it to hit rotom-wash and the defensive water-grounds (gastrodon, seismitoad, quagsire) very hard. It also gives grassy terrain to the team, removing camerupts and toxapexs ground weakness, and giving passive recovery to camerupt. The last 3 mons are meant to support this offensive core, with taunt z-move tornadus destroying hazard setters, physically defensive toxapex for dealing with zard-x and kyurem-black, and CM cresselia to check medicham and alakazam, and to clean up in the end game.
  • 72 hp and 52 SpDef on camerupt allows it to survive a mega-alakazam psychic on terrain, 124 Speed outspeeds toxapex
  • Bulu has 92 speed to outpace rotom-wash
  • 112 SpDef on cresselia lets it survive 2 specs lele moonblasts
  • 8 Speed lets toxapex outspeed reuniclus, 136 Defense Bold lets it survive a +2 EQ from zard-x

:Toxapex::Clefable::Latias-Mega::Gliscor::Kartana::Volcarona: Life Orb Clef Balance [https://pokepast.es/6e308b9b8b457fe1]

Life Orb is a great item on defensive clefable because of how threatening it makes it to opposing balance and fat. It allows ice beam to KO landorus and specially defensive gliscor after rocks, and gives moonblast the capability to 2hko mega latias and mega sableye. Its also valuable against offense teams, securing OHKOs on greninja, mega medicham and always 2hkoing mega gyarados. In essence, life orb clef reaches many breakpoints that it otherwise wouldnt have, and plus it makes moonblast a genuinely threatening neutral attack. Toxic spikes from toxapex lets clefable wear down the enemies a lot faster, and since clefable has a good matchup into most hazard removers, it can deter removal and keep t-spikes up for as long as possible. Utility mega latias gives para support to 3 sweepers that all greatly appreciate it, with gliscor and kartana almost requiring things like greninja and opposing latias to be paralyzed before attempting to sweep. Latias is a very reliable defogger, which is very important for bulkarona to not only sweep, but also to switch in on things like kartana and excadrill consistently. A balance team with 3 sweepers like this keeps the team not too passive, and the tried and true defensive core of toxapex, clefable and mega latias keeps a majority of the metagame at bay. Overall, this team has a consistent matchup into any archetype, from stall to offense.

  • 4 SpA on clefable allows moonblast to 2hko mega latias
  • 244 Hp on gliscor maximizes poison heal healing, 40 SpDef always lives a rotom-wash hydro pump
  • Volcarona outspeeds defensive landorus and SD gliscor

:Kyurem::Toxapex::Landorus-Therian::Mawile-Mega::Tornadus-Therian::Cresselia: Kyurem + Lunar Dance BO [https://pokepast.es/cc6af3ccdd870126]

Kyurem is able to stall out nearly any defensive pokemon or team, and rack up chip damage better than many pokemon. Its one of the most unique balance breakers, and on top of PP stalling it can deal a fair bit of damage as a result of its high special attack. Toxic spikes is another tool to stall out even offensive teams, and toxapex and kyurem shore up many of each others weaknesses. Stealth rock from landorus punishes double regenerator cores that want to reverse PP stall kyurem, and this combined with kyurems attacks will very slowly wear them down. Pivots from landorus and tornadus help get kyurem in, and are good into HO, which kyurem generally struggles with. Mega-mawile is not only great at breaking walls that kyurem cant get through, like tapu fini and clefable, but can also clean teams that kyurem has already weakened severely. Finally, cresselia serves multiple jobs on this team, including being an answer to medicham and psyspam, providing para support for mega-mawile and kyurem, and most insidiously, lunar dancing to restore PP on kyurem. Lunar dance is what enables kyurem to PP stall very passive teams, as without it, it will be unable to consistently do it without running out of PP itself. It is also nice for healing up mawile if its been heavily chipped.

  • 4 Speed on landorus outspeeds modest magnezone
  • 92 Defense Bold cresselia survives 3 mega-lopunny returns
