This is the thread for all things not a signup related to VGC Classics PL. If you need to post some additional information about your player signup, are a manager wanting to post information on tryouts, have a meme to share about something that happened in the tournament, or your name is Aldrich Yan, this is the thread for you. Fire away!

Hello, why not VGC18? LOL
there were some people opposed to running all the gen 7 formats as a good bit of that playerbase has moved away from the game and many newer players started in 8 or 9. as such we decided to cut 18 from the pool since it just had the spotlight ladder and a few tournaments ran for it.

Excited to play in my first VGC Classics PL! As a competitor from 2009-2015 and an active member of the retro VGC community, I hope not just to play well but to also offer assistance to my teammates.

Also I really hope 2009 makes it in over Series 7/9.

VGC18 and especially VGC16 are missing lol.
Quite a few people agreed that 3 gen 7 formats was too much, as you can see in zee's post (https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/vgc-classics-pl-iii-general-talk-thread.3769059/post-10660082)

As for 2016, ck49 said:
2016 sucks and so much of playing that format was memorizing gameplans. That’s one of the worst experiences in a retro tour. Ideally you can pick a team, play a few warm up games, and go battle. That’s not effective in 2016.
And for the rest pretty much no one commented on it but also barely anyone/no one included it in their personal "ideal format list" posts

I was half joking. Only having 2 gen 7 format makes sence. And 17 is goated while 18 is similar to 15. Also if we dont include 16 including 19 ultra series makes sence. However I strongly disagree with the memorising gameplans part of 16

Hi guys I comanaged in Classics last year and while our team did not do well, I learned a lot and would like to play to have more experience in team leagues.

I'm flexible and will play any format (barring gen 8 I suck at gen 8) as long as I can get adequate support from tmm8s. I did not play most of the formats offered in this league when they were the current format, but I've played in friendlies and tournaments hosted within oldgen communities. I also would like to hax Lucien Lachance in this league if given the opportunity.

Please reach out, I am available to talk through Smogon or Discord (christianfinity).
Thx.

Would love to play 2019 and some other formats

Since this might be the threat to advertise oneself. Think Im a pretty capable 17 player. Wont provide proof here but trust me on this

I already signed up lol but thanks

Low key be excited to watch and maybe play some 2009. My hope is that managers realize that's not a plug and play slot - you're going to need two players who are both willing to play the format and test against each other.

If you look at how quickly people figure out what's good in formats nowadays, its so impressive. We have so many tournament results and so many players trying everything out. 2009 really did not have that, on top of tournaments being much less equitable (single elim regionals). There's probably so much to discover in formats like that.
