Project Monotype Teambuilding Workshop

Hello, I would like to request a team with Deoxys Defense. I’ve noticed it still ranks C in viability, and it would be interesting to build a team around that Pokémon, as I used it a lot in Generation 8, and I would like to use it again in this current generation. Since this Deoxys is a defensive Pokémon, it might fit well in a defensive Psychic monotype, but I’m not here to limit the teambuilding; it’s just a suggestion.

And again, thank you for the teams I received here; they all worked wonderfully.

it works well as trick room setter since its the only one with trick room + teleport!

hey yall, i LOVE the idea of this thread, massive mono fan here and i am teeeeerrible hahaha.

I just wana find a mono team i can rock with but atm i've been focusing poison
core of team, Alolan Muk, Overquill, Weezing
- Muk is committed SpWall with assault vest, only weak to ground
- Overquill is committed PhWall, intimidate helps lower oncoming PhAtk, only weak to ground
- Weezing has levitate, only weak to psychic

if i make the right call i can get a free switch to whoever is the right guy (hard though i deffs belong in low elo, i can admit to that haha)

last 3 spots have been toxapex, veno, and last slot im constantly shuffling hoping i find the ONE secret piece that will help me (atm has been Glimmora for corrosion against steel)

i would rather a team without legendries, mythic or relying on the generational gimmicks like terastilize, gigantamax or mega (lol i know, im shooting myself in the foot)

i know this is a tall order haha, im just happy honestly even to be chatting about this. much love to anyone who does decide they'll try talking sense into my stubborn head

Been thinking on this team for awhile. I’ve had your team built since Monday and have been tweaking and testing it. I finally came to a version that feels satisfying enough to play around with.

:deoxys-defense: Deoxys has access to a move that many mons do not: Teleport. Probably the next best pivoting only second to Baton Pass. I opted to make Deo-D a physical wall to form a decent core with Slowking and Hoopa. Stealth Rock helps speeds games up a bit and Boots helps Deo-D come in more often if hazards get put down. Night Shade is better overall than Seismic Toss since it’s non-contact so you don’t have to worry about Baneful Bunker or Rocky Helmet shenanigans.

:slowking-galar: So, I had 4MSS with this because I originally had Chilly Reception for double pivoting with Deoxys. Would have also helped with remove weather from Ground, Rock, and Water teams as well. However, I decided to swap to Ice Beam instead to be able to hit things like Landorus or Gliscor if needed. Sludge Bomb to help with some key Fairy and Grass types like Valiant, Ogerpon, or Meowscarada. You wouldn’t hit them with Sludge Bomb often but when you do, it makes the game a bit easier. The poison chance is good too. Toxic Spikes to also help speeds games up. Not many people expect Slowking to lay down TSpikes, the usual assumption is AV.

:hoopa-unbound: The other Special wall, but of the offensive kind. Hoopa has all the coverage you need to punch holes through many teams and would be one of the main targets for Healing Wish support. With the right predictions, you break the Steel core. It helps soften the blows from Shadow Ball spam mons like Dragapult and Flutter Mane. With Slowking, it does make it harder for Flutter to choose between Moonblast and Shadow Ball.

:iron-boulder: I originally ran an SD Boulder set inspired by Neko since it does feel like Boulder doesn’t have to be bound to Scarf. But for this team specifically, SD felt just a tad bit off. There were a few Dark games that were lost because I wasn’t Scarf and Darkrai would click Dark Pulse twice because I wasn’t faster. Boulder tanks 1 Dark Pulse and kills in return with 2 Mighty Cleaves.

:hatterene: Hatterene is the one that will save a lot of games from defeat. The only thing that keeps it from breaking Flying is usually Sludge Wave from Lando and/or Iron Head from Corv. Mystical Fire helps get through Skarm and other Steel types but it can be swapped out for other moves like Nuzzle or Trick Room. Item choice can be flexible as well. Could use Boots for one of the weakness berries like Kasib/Babiri. I personally like using Kee Berry to boost Def by +1.

:Latias: Your speed control, your crippler on walls by using Trick, your Healing Wish support, also a Fire and Water resist. Latias will help your wincon stay alive. Could also use Jirachi or Indeedee for Healing Wish. I mainly thought having a Fire/Water resist fit better.

Man, thank you so much for the team! Yes, SD Boulder is good, but Scarf is great for dealing with SD Weavile and Darkrai, which are significant threats in this team. I've been testing it recently in 8 matches, and it has been very helpful. It's definitely a fun team to use.

here's my go at it, basically a hazard stack team that uses pecharunt to spinblock

maybe its better to go life orb on pecha and baloon on glimm, but i don't know if it does enough to ko gholdengo still...

from my few games of testing i will say weezing is unexpectedly good into a lot of teams!
might even be better to have toxic instead of tspikes

THANK U SO MUCH! im so keen to give this a whirl!! I can't express enough my gratitude that u took time out of ur day to help a stranger with my needlessly difficult request

and YES about Weezing, i to was surprised the first time he was able to take a hit & bring a victory for me! I was running him with stockpile, rest, chesto berry & lemme tell ya after 3 stockpiles my main man had over 900 Def! i got a whole new love for Weezing now (might consider him my ace were I a gym leader) and yeah I feel the meta is really sleeping on him. More love for my Gaston !

Thank you again endall! much love
