GSC Cup XI - Round 7

Thunder management simulator.

Tournament Rules
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here.
  • Smogon Classic rules can be read here.
  • Standard GSC OU.
  • Best of three, single elimination.
  • Matches are to be played on Smogtours, unless both parties agree to play on Main PS! server.
  • Do not make baseless activity posts -- get in contact with your opponent and report missed times / scheduling issues only.
  • Replays will be required starting in Round 2 of the tournament.
    • Replays in winposts must be easily findable and accessible as per this.
This is just a small snippet of the full rules, which you can find here!

Identity

About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not. Furthermore, pretending to be another player in relation to a tournament battle is strictly prohibited. Do not try to impersonate or play as another player.

About playing on different servers: Tournament matches must be played on the Smogtours server. The Main PS! server is also acceptable if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the TD team and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing on Smogtours, where we also have the power to recreate games that end due to DC's.

Scouting

On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.

On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.

Timer Clause / Disconnections

On the Timer: The timer must stay on throughout the whole battle.

On Timeout losses: A player that loses by having all his time run out loses the game. This is only not the case if the player that received the timeout loss can be verified to have suffered a True Disconnection. Rematches are only allowed if there was a True Disconnection.

On True Disconnection: The TD team has a secret threshold of seconds that your timer must be at or above, from the moment you disconnect, for a timeout loss to be considered a True Disconnection. If your game is determined to be a true disconnection, if you played on Smogtours and contacted a TD before the room expired, your game will be recreated up to the point the disconnect happened. It is the responsibility of the player that disconnected to get a TD into the room before it expires.

Some nice match ups here! Time to write some predictions about them.

SoulWind  vs  PDC
A match up between two veterans of the tournament community!
Both have shown strong showings throughout this tournament, proving why they have made it so far. So the question is: Who will go out here as the winner? After SoulWinds last round win, which seemed effortlessly just based on the score alone (not meaning, it was effortlessly playing against Isza last round) one may say he has the upper hand in this match up, especially considering he has won classic as a whole previously and he also most likely has the support of M Dragon behind him BUT PDC is not somebody to take lightly. I can see him easily pull the "upset" here and take this series home.
My gut feeling tells me PDC is taking this home, but either way both could end up as a winner here. Looking forward to this series!

Siatam  vs  Groudon
We have the slayer of the Don against Siatam for this round. Groudon managed to pull the upset and defeat kenix last round, where as Siatam defeated The_App, although dropping one of the games to blissey shuckle stall.
The question is: Will we see Groudon go back to using Kenix teams? Since I do not recall him using them vs. Kenix himself last round. And will Siatam be prepared for that or will he just use teams he believes in?

Either way, another match up that could go either way. If Groudon wins here, I'm not suprised and neither would I be suprised if Siatam wins.
My gut tells me tho Groudon is sending another GSC SPL Staple home.

shiloh  vs  Fear
Two former SPL 8 Wolfpack teammates up against each other! It has been a while but truth be told, I don't recall so much what Shilohs role was during SPL 8 anymore (manager? player? I cannot recall lol) but shiloh has been putting up decent results during this GSC cup and shouldn't be taken too lightly! He also has some support behind him, supplying him most likely with teams. The question is... will this be enough to take down the titan called Fear, who has had numerous strong showings in GSC?
I think Fear is going to take this home, the experience, access to teams he has himself due to his ability to build and achievements he has racked up playing this tier gives him the clear edge here.

gorgie  vs  Skarpherim
A veteran against a new face? We all know gorgie but who is Skarpherim? Having gone thru the previous rounds of GSC Cup, they have so far only played three sets of GSC and taking down in these sets stunner, who has allegedly had the support of some of his fellow italians and k3nan, who used to be an active GSCer and even participated in SPL in past iterations. He took both down in 3 games, using even some very interesting teams featuring Zap Cannon Dynamic Punch Gengar, which could also be called Slot Machine Gengar (which usually is a reference for DP Hypnosis not this one). That is not the only unique set he brought and on top of that we saw some familiar teams from a SPL dump done by kenix.

The question is: What will Skarpherim bring against gorgie? A very orthodox player in this tier. Will they try to stick to their guns? Will they try to bring something completly new? Because I can see gorgie trying to stick to what he belives is just best for him and try to execute his game plan as he wishes regardless of what he is facing. The lack of sets may make this also be a bit iffy to prepare something good here against his opponent.

To sum this up, I think gorgie takes this home. He is the more experienced player, has had played a lot of the tier in the past months and is just ready to go.

Good luck to all of you and I would appreciate it if you could all announce the times you are going to player your sets somewhere in public, ideally maybe even in this thread!
