Type Orbs

Orbs. Pokemon loves them. Primal Orbs, Griseous Orb, Flame/Toxic Orb, Orbeetle, Pokemon the Movie 2000 - they're everywhere. Why not turn them into their own mechanic, amirite? Here's the thing - each orb submitted would be based on a Pokemon type. Let's take Fire - obviously Red/Flame Orb are taken. Let's call it the Flare Orb. So, what does this Flare Orb do? Well, it grants bonuses to Pokemon of that type. So let's say we vote in that the Flare Orb gives all non-effect Fire-type moves a 10% burn chance, and all Fire-type moves with a burn chance get that chance increased by 10%. Okay, that sounds good, also might give Sun the Heat Rock effect if equipped to a Drought user. Is that all? Nah.

The main concept of this mod would be to completely change what moves Pokemon get and use depending on Orb held. Now we're getting somewhere. Let's take Hydro Pump - weird choice for a move a Fire type would have, right? But Volcanion gets it, for example, and Volcanion's cool. Right? Right. Let's say you give Volcanion Hydro Pump in the builder while holding a Flare Orb. What additional effect could Hydro Pump possibly get? Well, I mentioned earlier that it "grants bonuses to Pokemon of that type". It also would change moves to be different moves, regardless of that Pokemon's type. So let's take Hydro Pump; what move would it turn into? Well, it could stay Hydro Pump, but turn into Fire-type. It could turn into Fire Blast, if you were feeling particularly lazy during the submission process. Or, it could be completely custom - call it Magma Shoot and have it have a 10% chance of flinch. Because it's just that surprising. All 3 of these would be viable submissions for the "change what moves Pokemon use" part.

There's also the "change what moves Pokemon get" part; let's say the Pokemon is Feraligatr, who doesn't usually get Fire Blast. Well, let's say there's 3 standard move pickups the Flare Orb gives every Pokemon, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, and Fire Punch. Now Feraligatr would be able to use Fire Blast. Oh-ho-ho. How the tables have turned^TM.

I know the depth of this concept could potentially be a little much, but I'm not gonna be the one submitting anyway since I don't have a good reputation with the Pet Mods community atm (it's not necessarily bad, I just don't think me running a Pet Mod would get approved); feel free to change the concept to your liking and submit - just contact me on Discord (I'm in Showdown Coding, the unofficial Showdown coding Discord linked in the official dev Discord) so I know you're submitting it. Or don't, that's cool, too. I'll eventually find out.

This mod ideally would have 3 separate phases for each orb, a type-specific phase, a move change phase, and a move addition phase. No more than 3 additional effects per type phase, no more than 10 move changes, and no more than 3 move additions. Each slate would last 7 days, 4 for submission and 3 for voting. Then a week of testing - or just a break with like one game, that's what I would expect to happen, lol.

That's about it, like I said, contact me on Discord and if you have good ideas maybe I'll update this post.

Pet Mod Name: Clauses Clans
Pet Mod Concept: Involves around making two new custom Clauses, then a tag team tourney plays to determine a Clause replacing one of the two. Take place in a region with randomly picked Pokémon, new regional forms and perhaps new evolutions.
Explanation:
This Pet Mod takes inspiration of @Beaf Cultist’s Hide and Seaking, more specifically the special Clause slates where players make new clauses, and then the Seakers find them out until only one clause remain. Clause Clans will do the concept very differently.

You are most likely familiar with the term “clause” within the Smogon community, and this Pet Mod revolve around two custom clauses made in the first slate. These custom clauses can be almost anything as long as it is impactful (i.e. doesn’t signficiantly impact too little Pokémon), interesting, competitive and respectful of Global Smogon rules. The Grand Masters cannot participate in order to avoid directly spoiling the Regional Dex, though they can provide feedback and veto any problematic or unhelpful claise.

Once the first slate’s done, we reveal the Regional Dex. In scenarios that a winning clause ended up benefiting too little Pokémon in the Regional Dex making it a lot less useful than we expected, then it’ll be adjusted to be a bit more applicable. Likewise, if it turned out too many Top Tiers (in several tiers or so) benefit too much from it, the clause will be toned down. It will be done through Test Fieldings (free battles) based on Top Tier (more details below) to determine if the clauses work as intended or not, and to do bugfixes.

For the Regional Dex, the Pokémon are randomly picked through this random Pokémon generator (as in like a randomizer, not the other kind of generation), with Legendary, Mythical, Ultra Beast, and Paradox Pokémon disabled, and then randomly genetated Pokémon from the first two groups until we get at least two Legendary groups and two Mythical Pokémon. Then, Regional Forms out of a few more randomly picked Pokémon are created to fill the gaps between types. Individiual Ultra Beasts and Paradox Pokémon may be randomly added later on depending on the poll’s most voted answer.

The Regional Dex will be privately revealed to the Grand Masters (Council), determine the additional Pokémon with regional forms alongside the original, then release to the public to determine the “Tier List” with the public not unlike the official Smogon tiers. We go from Ubers, Top, High, Middle, Low, Bottom and Unranked, with Pokémon being adjusted individually so they have a niche within each tiers except Ubers, which plays more like traditional Ubers formats. Unranked is not an actual tier, but rather a dishonorable designation; think of the unofficial “Untiered” or Pokémon that received blunt “Do Not Use” reviews.

New evolutions are given to a few Unranked Pokémon in their only or first stage evolution and lower than average BST as a last resort in order for them to shine, all without rising the original’s BST too much and potentially messing up with one’s memory muscle. For Untiered Pokémon already reaching a second stage evolution (i.e. Beedrill, Wigglytuff), those instead have more drastic adjustments while staying mostly true to their base stat distribution. Untiered Pokémon that are clearly benefitting the new custom clauses will be exempt until further notice.

Then, people can participate in a single-elimination Bo3 tournament with “clans”, with one member being picked to represent each clan. Each round of a tournament picks a random Tier, including Ubers, but excluding Unranked, and no tier are picked twice in a single tournament. Pokémon from lower tiers can be used for the selected tiers, but not higher ones, just like the Smogon tiers. The 1st place player of the tournament consults with their clanmates privately (either Discord or Smogon DMs) to determine their new custom clause that replaces one of the current two custom clauses.

In events of the representating player not available or will not be for any disclosed reason, any of their teammate can substitute. If no teammates subs the absent player on time, the team is disqualified for the tournament. This is to prevent the tournament from dragging on. Additionally, in an event that either of the finalists’ team got disqualified, a “battle for third” take place to allow both lost semi-finalists for a redemption and to prevent an easy victory for the finalist.

New adjustments are made based on feedbacks, and the cycle repeats, allowing for an ever evolving metagame.
Miscellaneous:
Q: “Wouldn’t that be too similar to Trainer Classes?”
A: The difference between Trainer Classes and the custom clauses is that the latter affects both sides and are constantly active, while most Trainer Classes only affect the player and comes in a wide variety, but only one is used per battle.

Q: “What would you describe as unhealthy and / or uncompetitive?”
A: Any clause that would shift the tide of the battle too drastically or make a well-liked mechanic useless (i.e. Knock Off on switch-in, as it invalidate items), would cause the battle to lose it’s pace (i.e. Regenerator on top of Pokémon’s Ability), or adds even more impactful RNG would be considered as either unhealthy or uncompetitive. Overtly complex clauses, as well as those very difficult to code, are discouraged from being submitted as well.

Q: “What happens if Smeargle’s in the Pet Mod?”
A: Due to fundamental issues Smeargle represents through it’s move Sketch, it’ll be permanently be placed in Bottom so it won’t receive special treatments. It will also likely to be exempt from any custom clause if it would proved too troublesome by that clause (i.e. all have Prankster and banning Sleep isn’t enough) or can cause loophole abuses.

Q: “Is <generational gimmick> in this Pet Mod?”
A: None of them is in the Pet Mod initially, but can be implemented through custom clauses, and only to specific Pokémon to prevent already high-tier Pokémon from spiraling out of control. Making the custom clause only bringing a generational gimmick to all Pokémon would not be interesting, and making “Mega Evolution for all” would end up becoming a nightmarish chore for coding, and we rather not take risk ripping off Mix-and-Megas.

That said, if a clause that involve Mega Evolving certain species in different ways, or provide access to ONLY Gigantamaxing or signature Z-Moves, then a few more may be added to help out some high BST Untiered Pokémon.

Q: “Can my clause be based on <insert Other Metagame here>?”
A: I prefer if it affects only specific species or type to avoid overlapping too much with that OM. As an aside, we try not to overlap too much with Super Smash OMs in terms of Pokémon benefitted or hindered by the clauses.

Q: “What’s the process behind regional forms?”
A: They are decided by the Grand Masters to fill in the gaps of severely underrepresentated types, especially if a type has a few Pokémon that are quickbanned to Ubers. Which Pokémon are picked up for regional forms are either random or hand-picked.

Q: “Should we expect Ultra Beast and / or Paradox Pokémon in this Pet Mod?”
A: Not in the first tournament because of their absurd power level compared to even non-Ubers Legendary Pokémon, but a poll will be made in the meanwhile to either allow a few of them (randomly picked of course), or all of either of the group. Past Paradox and Future Paradox Pokémon are considered as seperate groups.

Q: “Why some Pokémon’s name being underlined in the spreadsheet?”
A: There are Pokémon that aren’t in the result, but added nonetheless due to being an important counterpart to a Pokémon. This also applies to Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon, but not necessarily Ultra Beasts nor Paradox Pokémon.

I'm probably not gonna run any more new mods this gen but I had this idea today and I figured I'd at least put the idea into the universe to see if there's a lot of interest in it or if someone else wanted to run it

:rs/lugia:
Pet Mod Name: [Gen 3] Shadow Colosseum
Pet Mod Concept: A Gen 3 Orre Colosseum (which is just Gen 3 VGC) metagame where the mechanics and moves of Shadow Pokemon from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness are added to the game.
Explanation: I've been in a bit of a Shadow Pokemon mood right now and I was thinking to myself that XD greatly expanded the mechanics of Shadow Pokemon but they aren't usable in Link Battles (for obvious reasons given the plot, but still), so naturally one would wonder how their mechanics would fare in a real PvP setting. However, there are a lot of pretty nutty things about Shadow Pokemon (namely that Shadow moves are super effective against all non-Shadows and also Hyper Mode from Colosseum being one of the most insane mechanics ever), so they would have to be tweaked a bit, along with deciding what Pokemon could even be Shadows in the first place. This would be decided in a Slate 0 similar to how TeraMax's first slate decided the mechanics of Tera and Dynamax there. After that, there would be slates to adapt every Shadow move from XD into the game, as well as potentially adding new Shadow moves.
Shadow Pokemon Mechanics Submission
(wouldn't really have a template, you'd just describe how your mechanic works)
- Any Pokemon can become a Shadow Pokemon using a button a la Terastallization. Only 1 Pokemon can become a Shadow Pokemon per team.
- Attacks used by Shadow Pokemon have 1.1x power but they also take 1.1x more damage from attacks.
- Any Pokemon can use Shadow-typed moves, but Shadow Pokemon have STAB on them, on top of the 1.1x universal power boost.
- Shadow moves hit all Pokemon neutrally, except for being resisted by other Shadow Pokemon.
- The universal power boost Shadow Pokemon gain is increased to 1.3x when the Pokemon is confused. When confused, all moves used by Shadow Pokemon deal recoil damage equal 1/4 of the damage they deal.

Shadow Move Submission

Type: Shadow
Effect: Summons Shadow Sky for 5 turns, a weather that damages all non-Shadow Pokemon for 1/8 of their max HP at the end of every turn. Weather Ball becomes 100 BP and Shadow-type.
Priority: 0
Flags (ex: Contact, Sound): N/A
Potential Pokémon With This Move::dugtrio::poliwrath::rapidash::magneton::farfetchd::tauros::lapras::zapdos::articuno::swellow::manectric::solrock::lunatone:
Miscellaneous:
- Probably wouldn't start immediately after being approved cuz I gotta learn the Orre Colosseum meta first or find a council that already knows it. (i am not letting futureproofing happen again)
- There would be additional slates depending on what specific changes to the Shadow Pokemon mechanic wins. For example, there would be Pokemon slates if Shadow Pokemon were made into alternate forms for certain Pokemon like in the old mod Return to Orre. Either way, there would also be a slate for Shadow Lugia itself, but it'd only be legal in a restricted metagame.
- There could also be additional slates for abilities and non-Shadow moves that interact with Shadow Pokemon.

SoloMod Name: TRE OU (Team Rocket Edition Over Used)
SoloMod Concept: The concept of this pet mod is based on the famous hackrom created by Dragonsden (which he will take part of).
Explanation: Dragonsden and I were thinking on creating a Showdown format so people that liked the hack could play in. There are some interesting changes in the general:

- Only Pokemon from Gen 1-8 (Some of them are Gen 9)
- Abilities and Moves until The Crown DLC from Gen 8. This also means no PLA moves.
- Some Pokemons have their stats and abilities changed. (Kingdra has Adaptability now)
- Augmented Movepool and all Pokemons can have various Egg Moves.
- New items that can help some Pokémon (For example, Kingdra has an item that rises its speed and defense by 1.3)
- New Fakemons (Like Johto/Kanto Beta Pokémons, New Mega Evolutions, &-Forms, Experiments...)
- All Pokémons can reach level 150.
- All Pokémons have new moves from level 150 onwards
Miscellaneous: Dragonsden is waiting to ask a friend for his help in this project, so for the moment will be in stand by. I just want to know your opinion on the possible tier.

Ah, some of the Pokemons:

Reworking an old idea Paul and I were bouncing around last year. Folks have been having conversations recently in the Pet Mods Discord about how there aren't many flavor-heavy mods these days, and I figured maybe I should just be the change I want to see.

:sv/noctowl:
Cover to Cover
Concept: We all know Pet Modders don't know how to read, but what if they did? This mod presents submitters with a different author each slate, whose work they will draw characters from to create Fakemon.

Explanation: The mod will be divided into chapters (slates), with each chapter being themed after a famous author. Users will be able to create Fakemon based on characters from that author's work, which they will then share with the Editors (council). Editors will work with submitters in order to ensure their submissions meet basic competitive integrity standards while still preserving the flavor of the submission, then after a few days Editors will present all submissions to be voted on by users.

Voting will use a Yes/No system instead of the standard winner-takes-all approach, with any submission that reaches over 60% Yes votes being added to the meta. The one exception to this will be if there are multiple submissions for the same character that reach the 60% threshold, in which case the submission with the highest ratio of Yes votes will be added.

This will be a Generation 9 National Dex based micrometa with Terastallization and Z-Moves banned. Our goal will be to reach around an SV UU power level, though this is subject to change based on the power of the submissions added in the first few slates.

Philosophy: The primary goal of this mod will be to give submitters an avenue to create fun, flavorful creations based on their passion for literary works. Competitive knowledge will not be necessary for submitting to this mod, only an open mind and a willingness to adapt submissions based on suggestions from the Editors.

Custom mechanics (Abilities, Moves, Items, Forme Changes, etc.) will be accepted as long as they are reasonable to code. Submitters shouldn't feel restricted by the confines of existing Pokemon mechanics if they feel they can better express their ideas in other ways.

Questions:

1. Do you think there's enough interest in this concept for it to work as a full mod?

2. Are there any other changes that could be made to the submission/voting process to encourage creative, unique submissions?

3. How do you feel about the focus on flavor over comp in this mod? Do you think there will be any complications from using the Editor system for balancing submissions?

Thanks for reading! I think the biggest pitfall with flavor mods in the past has been that they tend to feature a userbase who are very inexperienced with competitive Pokemon and sometimes mon design as a whole, so my goal here is to balance that creative but inexperienced submitter base with a more comp-focused council who can steer their submissions in the right direction. I'm hopeful that this will produce better results than past mods of a similar breed, but I'm very interested in hearing feedback on the current proposal, so please do reach out here or on Discord if you have any thoughts!

Off-topic but there's a Solomods thread for these types of projects. Use that instead.

Thinking of running this as a solomod, but I'm throwing the idea here to farm likes/get feedback.

Name: Ripoff (WIP)
Concept: Fakemons with price/point tags

Explanation:
- Blank Canvas/Balanced Createmons ripoff essentially. Make a mon, get a point tag, build a team, don't exceed the budget.
- Submission wise, either standard PetMod top 3 voted, Blindsided Google Form thing, or I make everything up myself and let people sub stuff in.
Bug = 0
Dark = 1
Dragon = 1
Electric = 1
Fairy = 2
Fighting = 1
Fire = 1
Flying = 1
Ghost = 2
Grass = 0
Ground = 2
Ice = 1
Normal = 1
Poison = 1
Psychic = 1
Rock = 1
Steel = 2
Water = 2
Adder for a second type =1
Points = BST/50
Bad = 0
Good = 1
Really Good = 2
Bad = 0
Good = 1
Really Good = 2

Considerations:
- Type point price rebalancing
- Ability and Move point categories
- Upper and Lower point tags (10 to 25?)
- Team point budget (100~ish?)
- NatDex, SV, or later third thing (Gen 10 coming soon?!)
- Will I ever run a PetMod?

[Gen 3] Nuzlockemons Random Battle:
Basically, people could submit their final nuzlocke teams and then players would battle with the Pokemon. I think it would be cool to see the nicknames and ways that the Pokemon were used. The reason I think it should be gen 3 is because I'm pretty sure most nuzlockes are either done is FRLG or RSE. The reason it would be random battles is because I think it might be complicated to choose from the specific nuzlocke Pokemon in the teambuilder.

Unrelated project I've been working on gave me a potentially interesting Fakemon mod idea to run. I've always found it cool when a Pet Mod's premise lets you submit around a unique environment and I'd like to hope this idea is unique in addition to being very straightforward and easy to submit to. Never hurts to have stuff like that.

Name: Not My Type
Concept: Fakemon meta where three types, as well as all associated moves and abilities, are completely removed from the game.
Explanation: Fairly straightforward Fakemon meta except at the start there will be a slate for people to submit sets of three types they want to be removed. For example, one person may submit Dark+Steel+Fairy because they want to mirror Gen 1, someone else might not like it being one-to-one and submit Dark+Dragon+Fairy, and someone else might hate hazard removal and pick Normal+Flying+Poison.

My main hope that this would create some kind of imbalance with the type chart. Three types is A LOT and you can do some really crazy stuff with it. Removing Bug+Grass+Dragon for example would make Ground literally only resisted by Flying, and Electric would become a lot more dangerous as it would only be resisted by Ground and itself, artificially making all three of those types a lot more important and forcing change in how you'd sub around them. Something like Water would lose two resists as well but would be hurt defensively by Electric becoming way stronger, which may shift it into becoming a much more offensively-focused type and cause all sorts of domino effect stuff.

There's a lot of room for interesting dyanics to pop up, and even the game's lower-impact types will usually have at least a handful of moves whose absence would be felt. No removing Bug without Sticky Web and U-Turn or Normal without the dozens of important and unique moves that are tied to it. People might not want any of this and might instead want to sub and vote for whatever would impact the game the least, though, which would be fine by me. Whatever you people want.

I guess something else I could mention is that I'd want to try out a different voting format than most mods here have been doing. It's a bit like Roulettemons for those who were there for that. Instead of voting for a handful of options and having the winner be decided by which is the most popular, we would instead vote "Yes" or "No" for as many options as we'd like, with the choice to leave as many subs as you'd want out from your ballot if you don't care or don't have a strong opinion about a few of them. All Fakemon subs that have over 50% or more "Yes" votes (or should I make it 60%?) will be added to the meta and the initial type chart sub would go to whichever sub has the highest "Yes" percentage.

Everyone will only be able to submit one Pokemon per slate to accommodate for this, though. It would help compensate for the huge influx of winning mons, give people less Pokemon to sift through during voting, encourage people to put more effort into their one sub, and hopefully keep subbing interesting since people won't be able to explore nearly as many ideas for mons during any one slate. This would notably make the mod a lot shorter as well which would mitigate the chance of it dying before completion.

For other usual notes, we'd probably just do Natdex moves just to have as many options available as possible, and Tera would be banned unless people really want it because I don't like it lmao. I don't know if this needs to be said but choosing Stellar for one of the three removed types would not be something I'd allow. No idea what I'd do for a council to be honest.

Questions for the community:
  • I know that for a similar mod I've run, one issue people had was they felt submitting had gotten stale since every Fakemon slate is technically identical. The voting thing is an attempt to combat this for reasons previously mentioned but I'm not sure if that alone is enough. Should I make slates work like Restrictions too?
  • How do people like the sound of this voting period idea in general? I know it would change a lot.
  • An idea I had was to maybe have one quick slate was to submit moves between the type chart and Fakemon parts. Maybe people would want Dark gone for one reason or another, but don't want to see Knock Off go. You could argue that having this removes an interesting part of the type cuts and it'd make the mod less interesting as a result. Would it be better if I had this or forced people to work around whatever moves the type cuts removed being gone?
  • Is three a good number of types for this? I only really chose three because I liked the parallel between this and Gen 1 and it felt like a reasonable number.
I'm open to any and all feedback!

Name: Bust A Battle
Concept: Reworking underwhelming moves, abilities, and items into more usable options and rebalancing more busted options
Explanation: Expanding on this Pet Mod from Gen 8, I wanted to have all the more underwhelming aspects of Pokemon to be redone to fix as better tools in multiple tiers and singles/doubles. From underpowered moves to overly generic signature abilities, they should all be fixed up because we know Game Freak won't.

Pet Mod Name: VGC Regulation Crack [and maybe other Regulations depending on other Rulesets similar to official VGC]
Pet Mod Concept: This Pet Mod concept is a slightly reworked version of Generation 9 National Dex Doubles that is played with the official VGC ruleset. This Metagame is a hypothetical that tries to imagine SV VGC if Game Freak never retconned ANY past Mechanic, Pokemon, Form, Item, Moves, etc.
Explanation:
The Ruleset is somewhat similar to regular VGC:
  • Double Battle
  • Unlike regular VGC, this Format uses bring 6, use 6 (instead of bring 6, use 4)
  • Levels are set to 50
  • Item Clause
  • Species Clause, including forms or regional variants
  • 2 Restricted Pokemon are allowed
  • Mythical Pokemon, Ultra Beasts and Paradox Pokemon are allowed
    • Arceus counts as a restricted Pokemon
  • Open Team List:
    • Species / Form
    • Ability
    • Held Item
    • Tera Type / Gigantimax Form
Mechanical Reworks (follows most National Dex Rules and are listed below):
  • All 4 Generational Gimmicks are allowed (Mega Evolution / Z-Moves / Dynamax / Terastalization) and follows National Dex Mechanics
    • Each Generational Gimmick is only usable once per battle
    • Multiple Generational Gimmicks can not be stacked on the same Pokemon
      • If a Pokemon holds a corresponding Mega Stone (or knows Dragon Ascend in case of Rayquaza), it can only Mega Evolve
      • If a Pokemon holds a Z-Crystal, it can only use a Z-Move
        • If Rayquaza holds a Z-Crystal and knows Dragon Ascend, it can only use a Z-Move
      • If a Pokemon doesnt meet the requirements for Mega Evolution or a Z-Move, it can choose to either Dynamax or to Terastalize
        • [Compatability between Dynamax and Terastalization needs to be added for this Metagame and Client, normally National Dex can only be played with either Dynamax or Terastalization]
    • Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre are not able to use any Generational Gimmick
    • Zachian, Zamazenta and Eternatus are not able to Dynamax
  • Every Removed Item, Pokemon, Form, and Move from older Games are allowed (as long as it was obtainable in any Main Line Game)
    • National Dex already added almost everything from the main line games between Generation 6 to 9, this Metagame will add things from other games as well
      • Items like Gems and Berserk Gene are now allowed
      • Pokemon Forms like Spiky-Eared Pichu, Cosplay Pikachu, Pikachu in a cap, Totem Forms and Partner Pikachu/Eevee are now allowed
      • Pokemon that were never obtainable in any game like Eternal Flower Floette and Eternatus Eternamax are not allowed
  • Specific National Dex Mechanics may get reworked for consistency, intuitive logic or game balance
    • Example: Protosynthesis may get reworked to activate in Desolate Land
Miscellaneous: Im new to the Smogon forums and dont really know how Pet Mods are managed or work, feedback is welcome!
TLDR: Its VGC but on Crack!

Putting down two ideas that I've had recently, I won't be looking to run either of these as I still have Shadow Colosseum to start soon and am likely gonna be busier in the near future, but if someone is willing to take these one I'd be willing to be on council

:gardevoir:
(nonzero chance i turn this into a solomod if it doesn't get picked up)

Pet Mod Name: The Heart of the Cards v3
Pet Mod Concept: A second reboot of The Heart of the Cards, which was last ran (by me) in Gen 7, where attacks and abilities/Poke-Powers/Poke-Bodies from the Pokemon TCG are adapted and added to the video games.
Explanation: The Pokemon TCG has a ton of exclusive attacks and abilities with unique effects, leading one to naturally wonder how they'd work in the video games. In fact, a few moves from TCG have even made it into the games, with the most notable example I can think of being Poltergeist, a move that's existed in the TCG since 1998 that has a pretty similar effect to Poltergeist in the games.

Submissions for this version of The Heart of the Cards would be a little different, as instead of being OU-based, this metagame would be a micrometa. Along with submitting a new move and new ability for a Pokemon, you can also change the Pokemon's stats, type, and movepool in order to fit the metagame better, as long as you follow a few restrictions to keep them accurate to how they would be in the TCG. In voting, voters would vote for Pokemon as a whole, rather than voting for abilities and moves separately. The first slate would be 3 Pokemon selected by council, and then, just like the original mod, future slated Pokemon would be picked by the winners of the previous slate (with council filling in any slots that a slate winner fails to fill). TL;DR, this is a TCG-flavored Clean Slate/Restrictions.
- Pokemon may have their stats and movepool changed in any way you'd like, allowing you to adjust them to the power level of the metagame as easily as possible.
- Pokemon must have at least one type corresponding a type they normally have in the TCG. For example, if you're making a submission for Slowking, one of its types must be Water, Ice (representing TCG's Water-type), Psychic, Ghost, or Fairy (representing TCG's Psychic-type).
Grass = Grass, Bug
Fire = Fire
Water = Water, Ice
Lightning = Electric
Psychic = Psychic, Ghost, Fairy
Fighting = Fighting, Ground, Rock
Darkness = Dark, Poison
Metal = Steel
Dragon = Dragon
Colorless = Normal, Flying
- Each Pokemon must have a custom ability based on an ability/Poke-Power/Poke-Body or attack that a Pokemon in their evolution line has had in the TCG. This is the only ability they can have.
- Each Pokemon must have a custom move based on an attack that a Pokemon in their evolution line has had in the TCG. This is the only custom move they can have. This move can't have the same name as an existing move.
- The custom move must match the type of the card it comes from. For example, if you chose an attack from a Water-type Slowking card, then the move must be Water or Ice-type. (This means that you can do some funny things with off-typed cards like Delta Species or Tera Pokemon)
- If you use an older card who's type convention is different than the modern TCG, the type rule for the move applies to what the type of the card represented back then.
- Nidoqueen (Jungle) - Grass-type because Poison used be to under Grass - Moves from the card can be Grass, Bug, or Poison
- Dragonite (Legends Awakened) - Colorless-type because Dragon used be under Colorless - Moves from the card can be Normal, Flying, or Dragon
- Dark Dragonite (Team Rocket Returns) - Darkness-type, has nothing to do with Dragonite's in-game types - Moves from the card can be Dark or Poison, but not Dragon, Normal, or Flying
- Dragonite (Delta Species) - A rare dual-type card, being Lightning/Metal-type, has nothing to do with Dragonite's in-game type - Moves from the card can be Electric or Steel, but not Dragon, Normal, or Flying
- Gardevoir-GX (Burning Shadows) - Fairy-type, when Fairy was a type in the TCG - Moves from the card can only be Fairy-type and not Psychic or Ghost
- Volcanion (Steam Siege) - A rare dual-type card, being Fire/Water-type - Moves from the card can be Fire, Water, or Ice-type
- Scovillain (Obsidian Flames) - Grass-type, has an ability that makes it Grass/Fire when it's in play - Moves from the card can only be Grass or Bug, as the only thing that matters in the printed type of the card, ignoring any ability effects that add types
- The effects of custom moves and abilities should either be similar to what they do in the TCG, or make sense with the name/flavor of the original version (i.e. the attack Overrun being some kind of priority or pivoting move would make sense based on its name, even though that's nothing like its effect in TCG).
- Attacks and abilities can come from the physical TCG or TCG Pocket, as well as the few cards exclusive to the Gameboy TCG games.

Custom Move: Cruel Arrow
Name: Cruel Arrow [this being a "never miss" move is one of the cases where a move's flavor is based on its name rather than TCG effect, though Cruel Arrow in TCG being able to hit any Pokemon on the board still kinda makes this make sense]

Pet Mod Name: Unearthing Legends
Pet Mod Concept: Most legendary Pokemon are paired with other legendary Pokemon in duos, trios, or even quartets and quintets. Rarely, new members are added to these groups, like Enamorus to the Forces of Nature or the Gen 8 Regis, adding to the already existing story of these legendaries. This Pet Mod would focus on adding new members to legendary groups, maintaining the group's flavor while trying to give them competitive value.
Explanation: Each slate, you would be tasked with creating a Fakemon that's a new member of a legendary group, adding an explanation for why they exist and how they're related to the original group, while also making them balanced for the metagame.

Flavor: "The despair of sailors who drowned in naval battles has gathered into an old sail and became a Pokemon." A large boar made of water, with sails being formed into its tusks. [should ideally be a bit more detailed than this]
Competitive Overview: """Fast""" bulky pivot with a decent amount of power than can force out a number of Pokemon since it make things around it slower, while sporting nice utility like Parting Shot, Knock Off, and Defog. With full investment, you outspeed base 109s.
Miscellaneous: Would probably be an OU-based metagame (or even Ubers-based, if we wanted to look more at Box Legendaries), but I could see this being a micrometa.
