Whats the best place to find people to test teams vs in previous gens (more specifically gens 6-8) ? I find the response in PS UU room to be underwhelming most of the time
I say this as somebody who was brand new to old gen uu tiers back at the start of 2022. It's borderline impossible to find games in any old gen uu tiers. Unless you play in team tours, you have one chance a year during classic to get competitive games in old gens which is not ideal in terms of practice as classic is generally the tour that you want to practice for as it's the highest level of competition for old gen uu tiers. I wanted to test out some new ideas I had in multiple tiers during the classic cycle last year, but I couldn't find anybody to play. Chatrooms have been pretty dead for a while. You very rarely find people to play games and a lot of time it's just people who haven't played the tier before using sample teams. Same goes for room tours. Unfortunately, the best way to find a lot of games for old gen uu tiers is to find somebody willing to grind out a ton of games with you. I was very lucky at the time I was learning old gens that I found somebody else who had an interest in old gens who also wanted to play a ton of games. They wanted a lot of practice in old gen tiers which was great for me cause I wanted to learn and I had nobody else to play. I have no clue what the odds are that you will find a person who is willing to grind out a ton of games for you, but I wish you the best of luck in doing so.

I see. In any case, anyone seeing this who wants to test teams in gens 6-8 are encouraged to message me:)

I think I'm a pretty good builder and a decent pilot so ill be able to provide acceptable resistance

i'd recommend joining the uu discord and asking for games in the old gen channels. theres a handful of ppl with the old gen roles (like @ oras, etc) thats prob ur best bet

What's the standard fezandipiti set? Despite being ranked A-, I couldn't find any set of its either in the Cnc thread or in the dex.
Generally Fezandipiti runs a set along these lines

Fezandipiti @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Toxic Chain
Tera Type: Water / Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Def / 56 SpD / 104 Spe
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- U-turn
- Roost
- Taunt / Beat Up / Heat Wave / Calm Mind

Evs are pretty customizable, only thing I would always do is go max HP, Calm, and hit a jump point in Special Defense. Otherwise prioritize put remaining Evs in Defense, while Speed is only to outrun specific things to either taunt or maybe U turn to fish for a toxic chain proc.

Welcome to the SQSA thread! As the title implies this thread should be used to post your simple questions and in turn receive relatively simple answers to them. If you wish to ask questions in regards to Smogon as a whole then please refer to this thread and any in-game questions should be taken to Orange Islands. Feel free to ask any question here no matter how basic they are, just as long as it is related to competitive Pokemon and abides by the below rule. When responding to someone's question please quote their post in order to avoid any confusion for both the questioner and those reading this thread in hopes of having the same question answered.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • This thread is the ideal place to ask questions such as "Why is Talonflame in Great Tier on the Viability List?" or "What Tera Type should my Hippowdon run on this team?".
  • Don't use this thread to ask questions about whether an ability or Pokemon should be banned or unbanned, such as "Should Gengar be banned from UU?", these questions should instead be posted in the relevant metagame thread (NP thread).
  • Similarly, Don't use this thread to discuss hypothetical scenarios such as X Pokemon dropping to UU.
Happy posting!
İsnt like scraft excadirll the best set? like yea you arent getting rocks but you can take opposing rockers like arcanine-hisui, excadrill, cobalion and then gain more value. İ think its best used alongside different defog/spinners and/or rockers as a seccondary spinner.
Excadrill (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 128 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor
- Rapid Spin
i go with this set. it has earthquake as the main stab and rock slide as complimantary coverage, x scissor to hit would be answers like hydrapple, slowking and ogerpon-grass that can tera to stop a potential sweep and spin to get hazards cleared
i highly recommend this set in teams that use conkeldurr, mandibuzz and/or sash users

Scarf exca is in general very odd to use... skarmory is top tier, locking into eq or iron head into a lot of teams is quite not good... In general it can take opponents off guard and surprise them but act being consistent is something I doubt this will work at all

Something like catching latios off guard, maybe even cornerstone can work maybe on ladder or a tour game once in a while but saying this is its best set is not true.

I saw that Azumarill is in the C ranks. Is there a specific reason why?
Nothing too specific, the mon is pretty much mediocre as a whole. Non-BD sets are really meh, CB in a hazards polluted metagame is hard to make work to begin with, add to that how slow Azumarill is and so how hard it is to get it to click buttons and it just becomes not worth running. And non CB sets are too weak, I've tried boots a couple times and while it can get some pretty valuable knocks it's hard to justify using over other things when it can be kind of restrictive in who you want it to be paired with. Its main upside being how solid it can be in the sand mu isn't really helpful atm, as sand is at it's worst ever spot this gen.

As for BD sets, they can have incredible popoffs in the right MU with the right Tera, but it's rather uncommon for it to happen. Lokix for example is able to revenge it almost everytime after a BD, unless it got to click it completely for free, and more often than not you'll need to commit to Tera to find a chance to click it in the first place, which means the opponent having an easier time planning around dealing with it. Finally, the tier has both a good amount of mons capable of tanking +6 Aqua Jets, and it really would love 5 moves (bd, jet, play rough + liquid/knock) to be able to hit everything successfully.

Personally I think C is underrating BD a little and would have it around B-/end of B, not only because of the occasional popoff it can have, but also because it's typing is great and can lead to many valuable 1x1s for HO or can help dealing with some threats such as Latios who are very strong into the archetype. But other than this, Azumarill has been struggling quite a bit in the current metagame and has only really found its place on a couple of specific teams.

hey!
ive played competitive before, but have been out of loop for a while now

why is latias uubl, but latios uu? i thought latios was the stronger one?

was latias abusing stored power sets or some other gimmick?
That's exactly it. Latias has Draining Kiss and better bukl than Latios, making Stored Power setup sets a bit too good. Latios has more raw power and has felt borderline broken at times, but isn't anywhere near as effective with set up sets and is much more manageable because of it.

Hello, now learning about the metagame and i dont really have an idea which mons are dominant right now in the metagame
Tornadus Therian is on most teams with either assault vest or heavy duty boots
Tornadus-Therian @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 88 SpD / 168 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt / Heat Wave / Focus Blast
- Knock Off
- U-turn / Nasty Plot
- Bleakwind Storm

Excadrill is the number one pokemon in the tier but I recommend Spdef Drill to better handle Latios and other non supereffective special attacks due to its excellent typing, Run it with enough speed to outspeed Greninja after a rapid Spin
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 160 HP / 20 Atk / 252 SpD / 76 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance / Stealth Rocks
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Iron Head / Rock Slide

These 2 are often paired together on a wide variety of teams Meta Game will Change soon with the tier shifts fast approaching though..

Lokix with boots is also very very easy to use due to no attack being the wrong click because of tinted lens.

Lokix @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Tinted Lens
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- First Impression
- Sucker Punch

Lastly some other household names are defensive heavy duty boots Slowking with chilly reception to tank a hit and swap in a teammate safely and NOTHING Switches into a well played Ogerpon-Cornerstone in the entire tier after a swords dance

Depends on the phrasing of dominant but stuff like balance with dirge, gastro, skarm can do pretty well alongside torn-t, this can struggle to taunt torn t sometimes or cornerstone but its doable. HO teams with screens or just hazard stack with stuff like double dance thundy-t, manaphy, revavroom, sd lokix, cornerstone, etc. Screens may use stuff like WP latios. Balance teams generally are torn + water + ground + breaker (sd zarude, latios, bu conk, or heatran)

Teams like those are usually very popular, torn t structures are consistent esp on ladder

It is to do with stored power.. but its because of draining kiss to hit the dark types. providing recovery for Latias.. All out sweeping Latios sets tend to have 0 recovery, due to it not having draining kiss, so Latias was more consistant and more difficult to take down due to it healing big when attacking things that are immune to stored power
