Finals Smogon Champions League V - Finals [Won by Showdown Shoguns]

Attribute and 3d

Two of my best friends, I've seen you guys at your highest and at your lowest when it comes to the game. By the end of the week one of you will win what you've worked so hard for, and the other will definitely be disappointed for a bit.

Regardless of the result I hope you're both proud of what you've achieved as competitors, and the impact each of you have made on the website. Give it your all, looking forward to a great match

Dahli vs mako: From what I’ve seen, Dahli has changed his approach to the game, and it’s clearly benefited him as a player. In this tournament he’s been making more aggressive yet calculated decisions, which is something he wasn’t really known for before. He’s also paired that with slightly more orthodox team choices (also unusual for him) and a constant pressure-oriented playstyle, as we saw in his game against Mike a couple weeks ago. Even with this improvement, though, I still have zero confidence in him if the game comes down to tight endgame turns because he simply doesn’t have the ability to execute under high pressure.

Mako is a fascinating player. Over the past few years, I think she’s been one of the best Smogon has to offer in terms of pure ingame skill—an aggressive player who stays composed under pressure and someone capable of delivering two or three flawless games per tour. BUT her weakness really shows in team building—both in the building process itself and in her evaluation of what’s actually good. Her teams in this tournament have been pretty uninspired, although her level of play has often been enough to prevent that from hurting her consistently.

For me, this is the game I’m looking forward to the most. Dahli has been on a heater, but Mako is the true test of how real that progression is, since she’s capable of punishing any overly aggressive play Dahli makes. Still, Dahli definitely has the better teams right now, plus the momentum, and I think the leap is legit—so I’m picking him to win as long as the game doesn’t depend on the last 5/8 turns

I see Dahli vs. Mako in the SCL Finals as a genuinely close matchup, but with a small edge for Dahli, roughly in the 55–60% range. Both are strong SV OU players, so this is not a lopsided pairing at all. The main reasons to favor Dahli slightly are experience, prep style, and how he tends to perform in high-pressure team tournaments.
Dahli has a longer and more established track record as a starting SV OU player in big Smogon team tours, including several SCL seasons. That history suggests he is trusted to deliver consistently and that he is used to the pressure and visibility that come with high-stakes games such as Finals. This kind of experience often translates into steadier play when nerves could otherwise affect decision-making.
Stylistically, Dahli is known for being more creative in his preparation. He is likely to bring teams that are specifically tailored to his opponent, using targeted lures, unusual sets, or cleverly chosen Terastallization options aimed at punishing Mako’s typical structures or habits. Mako, in contrast, leans a bit more toward solid, meta-standard builds: strong, well-constructed teams that make sense in the current metagame and rely on good fundamentals and clean play rather than surprise factor.
Because of that, the likely dynamic is that Dahli will try to create an advantage through prep: by catching Mako off guard with a particular tech, unexpected coverage, or a Tera choice that flips a matchup. If those ideas connect, the game can swing hard in his favor. If Mako manages to scout effectively in the early turns, identifies the sets without losing too much ground, and stabilizes, then the game becomes much more about pure on-field decision-making, where the matchup is closer to even.
Both players have solid support around them, so the prep environment on each side should be high quality. However, given Dahli’s role as a long-term OU starter in strong SCL lineups, it is reasonable to assume he benefits slightly more from that context and uses it well.
Putting it all together, I would predict Dahli as a narrow favorite: he wins if his creative prep pays off and he handles the pressure as he has in past tours, while Mako absolutely has the tools to win if he keeps the game stable, scouts carefully, and leans on his solid fundamentals.

That being said, I think Mako will win.

Hi all, I was thinking about predictions in Competitive Pokemon and how difficult it is to have consistent results.
Then, I found on social media a very reliable framework to compare lineups in football both ON PAPER and AT TODAY.
So, why not give it a try for this major event?

Attribute vs 3d :
According to my boy ABR’s Glazer, this is only the third time ever that the #1-ranked player of a tour is going to finish with a negative record. Despite his poor tour, I think Attribute is still at the same level he has shown in other tours; he has mostly been a victim of poor matchups and maybe one or two true ownages, like that one game in the regular season against his current opponent, 3d.

In even conditions, he’s probably beating almost everyone in this pool with relative ease, thanks to his high tempo playstyle and his constant pressure to maintain control of the games he’s in. He’s the kind of player who will try to get you very early and then control the rest of the game with simple yet effective plays.

But, like his record, not everything is positive for him. Just like Attribute, I was once a #1-ranked player who loved to call everyone in the player field trash. But unlike Attribute, I always backed up my talk. Why? Because deep down I truly believed I was two echelons above everyone else.

But Attribute isn’t like that. Despite talking a lot, he doesn’t actually believe what he says, and that shows in his lack of confidence when preparing for opponent, constantly trying to force the best possible matchup, relying on MU fishing, or going for some sort of overpreparation tailored entirely to whatever his opponent is known for. And many might ask, “What’s wrong with that?” On the surface, nothing. But when you do this, you’re putting aside your actual in-game abilities to put all your eggs in the basket of team prep.

If you’re truly superior to the rest, you’ll believe that even though building is necessary, your best weapon is your ability to play—not your ability to MU fish. Because when you try to fish matchups, you focus too much on what the opponent will bring, ignoring other common metagame elements that can beat you without giving you any real chance to do something about it. (For examplex in the game versus ABR, we collectively predicted he was going to MU fish because deep down he thought it was his only chance at winning, and that’s exactly what he did by overprepping for the classic ABR fat, uglyass team.)

My advice for him would be to stop talking so much if he’s not going to fully trust in his own abilities as a player.

Words can’t describe how proud I am of 3D’s growth as a player. Words have power, and after repeatedly call himself the goat for years he’s truly become a top player now. He reads his opponents extremely well and isn’t afraid to make high-value, high-risk plays. He’s had several flawless games this tournament, from team choices to in-game decisions. Even in the matches he lost, he played really well aside from a few small details.

3D inspires a lot of confidence, both when he speaks and when he plays, but sometimes that same confidence becomes a double-edged sword. In almost every match he focuses heavily on the early game and on getting an advantage, but he doesn’t always plan for the long game, and sometimes it looks like he’s not fully aware of the position he’s put himself in later on.

On top of that, he struggles with some endgame situations—whether it’s the timer or other factors, he has choked a few of them.

The next step for him is improving his focus and learning to build better game plans that look further ahead, thinking about different outcomes even when the match is just beginning. I’d love to nitpick more, but honestly, he’s just been exciting to watch.

Oh, and by the way: Star robbed him.

In this match, I predict we’re going to see two bulky offense or balance teams. One player will likely focus on neutralizing the opponent’s composition, while the other—playing with more confidence—will go in with the mindset of “I already beat you once.”

This is the hardest game to predict, because although I believe Attribute is the better overall player, 3D has been the hot hand, and his style matches up very well into Attribute’s. The biggest factor for Attribute will be his approach to team building, while for 3D it will come down to whether he can stay focused enough to deliver another flawless performance.

Congrats, Shoguns! You guys overcame a lot to get here and it’s well deserved. 3d, it’s poetic that you clinched it after all you have been through this year. Proud of you brother!

Good run, Spartans. You took a big leap this year and the future is bright. Really strong showing.
