Little things you like about Pokémon

This was really cute.

Something that's 100% unintentional but I dig anyway: Older members may remember this firsthand but back in BW2 prerelease many people believed they would introduce a new starter trio. This culminated in a famous fake leak featuring a cactus owl people dubbed Cactowl.

10 years later and we get Legends Arceus, whose mishmash starter trio is the closest this idea has ever come to being made real. A member of this trio is Rowlet, the grass type owl

One small detail I like in the Z-A DLC is that Hyperspace Lumiose has all these little red, blue, and green particles floating around the sky and the edges of the space:

I like this because it’s consistent with the effect they used to show the warping of spacetime when Cyrus took control of Dialga/Palkia:

… which they also referred back to in Legends: Arceus, when the lightning would strike to drive the nobles into a frenzy:

I think it’s just a cool little detail to visualize their idea of certain spatial distortions.

Similarly, I like that the premise of the DLC involves a big, ominous distortion looming over the map’s iconic centerpiece. It contributes to my existing sense of Z-A being a thematic sequel to Arceus almost as much as it is a narrative sequel to XY.

And TBH I think it should have had more gen 6. Like I get that proportional to its dex it's actually doing fine and obviously the design budget couldn't be expanded more and you still want to make sure you get a nice big spread of Pokemon but I dunno...it's Kalos! You're finally doing megas in Kalos! Do more

Much as I like Mega Heatran design-wise, I really don’t get why it’s here when Kalos has its own dual-typed half-Fire quadrupedal cryptid with a 600 BST and an underdeveloped mythos that they could have pulled from. Gives Kalos another Mega + gives Volcanion a bit of spotlight for once + gives it something to match Mega Diancie and Hoopa Unbound

Similar vein, it feels odd considering Volcanion doesn't seem to have any particular mechanic beyond its basic form next to the other two. There's actually a surprising amount of Legendary representation considering Z-A's Dex size, which makes the fact it doesn't get anything special vs two other Mythicals getting outright new Megas from other Regions that don't even cross paths with it that much (compared to, say, Johto and Sinnoh often getting referenced together in lore bits, Kanto and Hoenn sharing the Frontier in the anime).

Maybe Volcanion being vanilla IS what makes it unique nowadays (not even a joke given what Legendary design turned into since arguably Gen 5, definitely Gen 7) so GF opted against it before deciding what WOULD get Megas.

Something really funny I stumbled upon while wiki walking like 10 minutes ago.

The move Telekinesis is hard coded to fail on 5 different Pokémon: Mega Gengar, Diglett, Dugtrio, and Sandygast, and Palossand. As far as I know, this is the only move to function this way instead of going off of type or ability based immunities. These Pokémon are not leaving the ground.

I find it funniest for Diglett and Dugtrio. Game Freak is super committed to their bit.

To be honest, I think it's really only due to how janky the animations are.

..have you seen the cursed Dugtrio using Sunsteel Strike in gen 7 looked?:eeveehide:

I like the go charjabug.presents. I actually used that mon on cart in 9, may again since I have like 10 shinies. Probably the best NFE that ISN'T used like at all, better than swadloon easily for ex. I used lunge/ BP/ webs/ iron def, seemed ok

Just found out via a Youtube short that when any of the Swords of Justice use Sacred Sword in Legends Z-A they get a boost to both Attack stats and hell yeah actual incentive for them to use their former signature moves
Does this also apply to Secret Sword for Keldeo or nah.

I'd argue people undervalue Sacred Sword somewhat because of competitive assumptions. Close Combat is insane, yes, but it leaves you vulnerable to retaliation. 20 PP, Base-90 STAB that ignores defensive setup fills a lot of roles. In-game or for doubles battles, Sacred Sword is a perfectly reasonable pick.

So the official pokemon channel has been putting up a bunch of shorts lately. While many flock to the Living/Animated Pokedex ones, which I may cover in a later post, right now im kinda obsessed with these ones for Pokemon Sleep. Just the cozy life of waking up in the morning next to or with your mons, in a way thats not getting ready for training or out adventuring, just cozy normal trainers at home.

So I'm pleased to report that Pokemon has made even more of these casual "life with pokemon" style animations. Less sleep focused but still shenanigans all the same!

Bunch of little details in this batch, like the Toxel trainer handling it with gloves, the Shellder lifting weights with its tongue, the jealous helioptile... very cozy this time around. Also, never trust a Slowbro to be your spotter.

This is something that only someone who catalogues Pokémon form data for fun like me would appreciate, but I like that Z-A finally gave Genesect’s forms proper individual names in the code (they are “Douse Drive / Shock Drive / Burn Drive / Chill Drive”). Previously, they were all just “Genesect.” It looked very redundant and very silly on all my lists.

(Now if only they could do away with all of Arceus’s forms being labeled as “Arceus” and all of Unown’s being labeled as “One form”…)
