Metagame Convergence [OM of the Month (New Bans post #551)]

Porygon-Z, Baxcalibur, Drought and Inteleon are currently banned.

Sorry for no fanfare or edit, time is pretty strapped for me right now, and like I said, we are basically working alone rn.

Anyway all of these elements have been observed to be deeply problematic in the current meta, enabling alot of toxic gameplay and monopolizing alot of responses in the tier and so we had to ban them.

With that in mind Heat Rock will also be unbanned, as automatic Sun is no longer a threat, while manual Sun can still be pretty powerful while being balanced with the item.

In addition to this, we are rectifying the old ban, of Comatose. In this instance, we are simply banning Komala instead to remain consistent with our tiering philosophy.

dhelmise please implement these when you can. Have a good night everyone.

shouldn't we also ban ditto instead of imposter? It changes literally nothing but it looks technically inconsistent with policy

Just a bunch of movesets I've been thinking of:

Fezandipiti (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Neutralizing Gas / Levitate :weezing-galar:
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 232 SpD / 24 Spe
Calm Nature
- U-turn
- Moonblast
- Will-O-Wisp (:weezing-galar:)
- Roost
It's a pretty good special wall, and thanks to wisp it can now cripple physical attackers that would come in. Now that Inteleon is gone, it could be a solid alternative to AV Mola/Tox/Suicune.

Electivire @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate :eelektross:
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Coil :eelektross:
- Supercell Slam
- Liquidation :pincurchin: / Drain Punch :eelektross:
- Trailblaze :ampharos: / Recover
Coil + Supercell Slam is yummy. Other Electric types bring more interesting options, unfortunately regular Electivire is currently ZU and I don't think it can really work well here.

Cryogonal @ Icy Rock
Ability: Snow Warning :vulpix-alola:
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flip Turn :eiscue:
- Blizzard
- Aurora Veil
- Encore :beartic:

Glaceon (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Slush Rush :beartic:
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot :vulpix-alola:
- Freeze-Dry / Blizzard
- Shadow Ball / Freeze Dry
- Focus Blast :regice:

Drought being gone I just wanna make Glaceon better, so I'm going Slush Rush with Nasty Plot. Cryogonal is the fastest pure Ice type available but I can't decide whether I should use Ninetales-A or this one. Glaceon with +2 Speed and SpA is quite scary.

Gengar (M) @ Choice Specs / Scarf
Ability: Levitate :haunter:
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Parting Shot :pecharunt: / Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Malignant Chain :pecharunt:
- Trick

Choice Gengar can finally pivot and retrieve its long known Levitate ability.

That's weird, because the OP has that listed out
Imposter is banned, and Transform is banned in the teambuilder, but Ditto is completely legal (checked with validations.)

I'm curious though, why is Transform banned? It's on Mew, and while its an absolutely terrible move in 99% of situations, I feel the thought of Transform Cresselia jumpscaring someone to be incredibly funny and want to use it. I'm guessing its just an oversight of forgetting that more than one mon gets Transform?

Was planning on getting full top 3, but this will do

Team: https://pokepast.es/8d652fbf500d6922

:Greninja: @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Endeavor
- Copycat
- Encore

Lead for the team, copycat is extremely niche tech that is super fun to use. It can be used to reverse court change, copy rocks or spin, copy a pivot move, veil, and even copy trick room occasionally. Encore is also super funny since noone expects it fsr.

:iron moth: @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 124 Def / 132 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Psychic
- Nasty Plot

Moth but with plot is a very good mon. Psychic hits pex and hits some targets a bit harder. Sludge bomb is also so much better sludge wave that idek how people can argue its not.

:Pecharunt: @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Malignant Chain
- Shadow Ball
- Encore
- Nasty Plot

Nice spinblocker, and encore is great for all the mons that think they can try to setup on pecha. Its also super wierd how many people earthquake on pecha.. like cmon surely you know by now..
:Kingambit: @ Lum Berry
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Base gambit, nothing new. Just a solid mon in a meta where everything is on one end of

:Chesnaught: @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Shadow Sneak
- Bullet Seed
- Swords Dance

Genuinely my favorite conv set of all time. Literally everyone always falls for the mach bait and switches in their fast psychic or ghost and just gets wrecked. Most of the bulky mons are also outsped and killed by bullet seed (even if it only hits twice its still a nice 75 bp). Having them assume its PH is also a nice benefit.

:Samurott-Hisui: @ Black Glasses
Ability: Adaptability
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Crabhammer
- Dragon Dance

Pretty recent addition, but imo this is a really great set in the current meta. Most of the stuff that could revenge it is going to drop to sucker, and it hits like a small truck against basically anything.

Current thoughts on the meta: pretty good, but cress is feeling a bit broken. Cosmic sets really dont have any answers other than praying for crits or getting lucky with the set.
