ADV OU Secret Santa 2025

Tetrafolium

As the deadline is today, I'll be posting what I have currently. My prompt was Clefable + Jirachi with the additional rule that the pink thing can't run belly drum. That last rule was a problem because if I was normally going to try and justify using Clefable, it would be as a belly drum mon that can create free turns for itself with encore.

This team is unabashedly cheesy and never really solves the problem of needing to include Clefable. Ultimately if you're going to include non Belly Drum Clefable on a team, I think it needs to be on some sort of offensive leaning team because otherwise you should just load Blissey. Paraspam seems like the most natural fit given Clefable's moveset. Mud Slap allows Clefable to "threaten" mons it has encored into a set up move, incentivizing them to switch and allowing you to click twave on additional mons.

I really hoped to have more time to dedicate to this as it was a really cool prompt to think about and I had at least 3 different ways I wanted to explore building. I built them more or less straight away but unfortunately I only got to kind of sort of test one of them as my Christmas period ended up a bit more crammed than I anticipated and I’m not really satisfied with the result yet. So don’t go expecting to win with this or anything.

Anyway, the prompt was- “a team that uses an offensive Granbull set (Granbull should preferably hold leftovers)”

So looking at Granbull, what traits does it have that can help it stand out in ADV?

-Intimidate and a typing with a lack of weaknesses means it can switch in on a wide range of physical moves, even with middling physical bulk
-120 attack and every physical move it could possibly need means it can potentially threaten just about anything. STAB on moves like Return and DE means you have very consistent powerful clicks.
-Thief is a potent move on a mon like Granbull who baits Skarmory and Gengar hard.
-Thunder Wave allows it to function as it’s own para support, which is nice given it’s godawful speed.

There’s a whole load other useful things that Granbull has access to as well, like Heal Bell, Taunt, Reflect, Bulk Up, but these are things I think Granbull has no hope of being able to do better than another mon, or don’t fit the prompt. Moreover the wording of the prompt stood out to me- “preferably hold leftovers”. That settled it. We’re having a Granbull that preferably holds leftovers by the end of the game.

Here is the team that I’ve (currently) ended on. - https://pokepast.es/a119243ad0c6a272

We’re going Paraspam. Return/EQ/Thief/Twave for Granbull is the set I really wanted to explore here as Granbull is, as already mentioned, great Skarm bait. Thief isn’t usually that good on offensive teams but as we’re kind of forced to play to a slower pace here we can get some good mileage out of it. Return/EQ threatens everything that isn’t Skarm and Gar with a lot of damage. Twave is necessary support for both Granbull and the rest of the team, but also gives it a potent weapon to nail Gengar with on a read. Unfortunately 45 speed is god awful even for Paraspam purposes, so we’ve got 92 speed EVs to make sure we can at least beat Blissey, cause even Blissey Ice Beam hurts.

That being said I think we want some pursuit support to make sure we can actually click our attacking moves. So we’ve got Pursuittar with Twave as the 4th. I’m not too worried about lacking a physical move here as we have 4 beefy physical attackers on the team.

Third para-spammer naturally has to be SpDefrachi. SpDefrachi provides a mountain of utility to the team as a pivot, wish passer, and status bot.

We also want a second mon to take advantage of the Para spreading, and we also want to be pressuring the opponent from turn 1. Granbull can’t really perform that function since it matches up terribly into Zap and it’s not really a great trader, so I went with a lead Champ with Bulk Up- since Zapdos is one of the tougher mons for this team to deal with you probably want to just trade/force it out if you can. Lead Skarm is a bit of a pain but you can BU> CC and try to force momentum that way.

So we have 4 slow grounded mons and no spinner, and currently our rock resists are Champ and Rachi, which isn’t as consistent as I’d hope. We also have no way to deal with waters. We’re running out of space to cover weaknesses. Lets start with the spinner. It’s kind of a choice between Dol and Phan, and this time round I went with Phan, largely due to its greater consistency into enemy Tar (and we’re packing Pursuit so we can afford to be Gar weak. Roar looks bad but you are going to need it. We’re rougher into spikes than I’d like still though and Dol would probably have generally better survivability. You could also bluff not having Suittar better.

Gyarados. Nothing else really fits. Second intim is nice utility, but really we need something that beats waters and fighters, and can force out Meta. Gyara defensively covers pretty much every member of the team in some major way. Honestly as it’s role here is largely defensive, there’s probably an argument for going with a really bulky spread and/or going Twave to patch up the Zap weakness. If Gyara dies the team kinda crumbles to any water type so its kinda super important to preserve.

Anyway, that’s what I got, It’s definitely bad but I had a lot of fun brainstorming around the concept, and I had 2 other teams I never got round to testing. Merry Christmas :p

ghostmalone. here is your gift from OmBrArch !!

https://pokepast.es/31b88e4391494e8c sorry for the late, xmas and all.
no testing at all so would need some to have better movesets and spreads : slide on tar for fire types annoying for a Bi/Mag/Skarm structures (thought about ice beam for mence but ig slide kinda cover it aswell). This pert may need a spread with some atk to be less passive into bliss. ghostmalone can reach out to me if he wants to discuss about it.

Merry Christmas Snorby !! Sorry for being late, heres your team with CursePert+LeechCele
I decided to go with a more traditional Magneton Team with some pursuit support to help with Gengar and Fires like Moltres and Charizard.
DDMence and AgiMeta Form a strong offensive core helped by GrassTar and Mag.
Curse+Rest Swampert will help the team against Milo Teams which can be a tough time when you cant recover with Pert
Hope you will have fun with the team ! Feel free to pm if you need anything !!

Merry (late) Christmas to a valued member of the Forte prep team, WraxiusGaming!

Here is a take on offgon without a trapper https://pokepast.es/b08f0f5217f23fa9

Lead DD Tar helps soften some of the same defensive checks for off gon, while taunt prevents skarm from setting up a layer and/or roaring it out. This could be swapped for lum dedge ala slop as well.

CB Gon is running QA because it's an awesome move and Wraxius is also awesome

Leech Bi was something I saw Mielke say worked well with offgon once, and I do see the vision in testing here

Snorlax helps bi to check special threats while keeping pressure up

Skarm + leech helps damage stick that CB Gon needs to function as a breaker if switched in aggressively

Def pert makes sure this team doesn't auto lose to salamence

Could this be turned into CBGon Slop pretty easily? Probably. Does that inspire holiday cheer? Hell no.
