Random Battles Circuit V Playoffs

Welcome, one and all, to the Rands Circuit V Playoffs! After a circuit of 11 thrilling Opens, including our first-ever Swiss tournament, the competition has narrowed down to 32 players, each with their own skills and specialities. They’ve all made it this far—but who will emerge victorious?

Prizes
The winner of the Rands Circuit V will receive a custom avatar and a Smogon banner for a full year, a month-long Room Prize Winner rank, and be inducted into the Randbats Hall of Fame.

How does the tour work?
Matchups are determined by ranked choice. Each round, competitors rank their top 5 Opens, then share that ranking privately with hosts Dark Pulse, Irpachuza, and myself. From those submitted rankings, the top 3 Opens from the higher seed, and top 2 from the lower seed (as determined by best Open performance), are chosen, in alternating order, and announced; in the event of ties/repeats, the next Open on the respective player’s ranking are chosen. No repeats are allowed.

With the 5 Opens for each series have been determined, players battle. The higher seed picks from among the 5 Opens for game 1, and loser picks afterward. The first player to 3 wins advances to the next round.

To view the bracket, check out the final tab of the Rands Circuit V spreadsheet.

Please note:
1. All scheduling attempts MUST be done publicly on Smogon Walls. No other proof of communication will count for act calls regarding scheduling attempts.
2. You MUST post replays of your wins.

We strongly recommend familiarizing yourself with the Smogon Tournament Rules and General Guidelines, if you haven’t already. If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to contact the tour hosts here on Smogon.
When spectating Rands Slam battles, ask yourself, “Would my comment reveal information that hasn’t already been explicitly revealed in this battle?” Examples of ghosting include commenting on how an unexpectedly fast Pokemon must be holding a Choice Scarf, speculating that the match will be decided by a Tera coinflip, etc.

Welcome to my second annual predictions

Livid Washed v Driftrick: From Ralts to Nymble, I've drifted along the world of CCC, one as player, once as manager. Similar to someone in this pairing. But what am I drifting toward? I already exceeded my own expectations this year... in challenge cup anyway, because no way in hell we talk about how I somehow lost to even more 1000s on ladder. And honestly fuck ladder because it's filled with people who make the most braindead plays yet get rewarded because of rng or because I'm just so good at over predicting and making some dumbass play bc I'm washed. Just like Davonne said in bb17 when Clay tried her for going on the rooms to count things bc he didn't own that damn house anyway, I'm LIVID! Except instead of the Inglewood popping out of my system, it'll be... wait, Drifting got bumped up a seed? Well... shit. Whatever, Driftrick is close enough in name. But anyway, since I'm not in California, this prediction will be the only thing popping out of my system.

Star Wheel v Freyaknight: Yeah so remember in like May or whatever during the gen 6 open where I kept on rooting against Star Wheel every round yet he kept winning every single round en route to winning the open? Well... as it turns out, talking shit is a good motivation, and I may have to talk as much shit as possible toward the people I actually want to win in order to give them the right motivation to show up and show out. With that being said, this should be light work for the Italian.

Amaranth v Flameingpigey2: It's times like these where I wish I was more creative. But as it stands, we have the veteran allgens main up against the up and coming all gens main. Of course, I only backed one of these people in both wcor and rbtt fantasy last year and clearly landed the right read both tours, so I guess I'll be leaning on that same read yet again.

Hairoll v MultiAmmiratore: The Nymble versus... not a Nymble. All bias aside, I'm here for team Sickos and only team Sickos. I want chaos. I want anarchy, I want gen 2 hell! Only one of these players has demonstrated the will to endure ALL of gen 2 hell this circuit, and I will be going all-inclusive on that player.

Adelynn v SoggyDoggySage: The battle of the aesthetic avatars. I was pleasantly surprised with most of the avatars for the playoffs; it's the perfect balance of cunty and personal. It lowkey reminds me of how I'd enter all those ORGs with a different personality. I played Diplomacy as a villain, EIPP as a peacemaker until everyone betrayed me bc they all wanted to work with me because I was the only one who could effectivelt use After You in Trick Room, and I played Survivor as a ditzy newcomer despite watching way too much reality TV. Of course, one of these players might remember my heel-turn in Diplomacy (sorry again I really thought I ate that move at first but hope it got me like 8th)

O1V7O2X9O v Lichess: I definitely didn't type the Wi-Fi Password's username manually by memory. And I definitely didn't co-manage CCCVI with them after the funniest origin story. And we definitely didn't make playoffs in our debut season. And I'm definitely not rooting for them in this series. One of these statements is a lie. It's your job to spot the lie. You'll probably find it.

Lady Writer v Shadows4: So like two days ago I was streaming hackmons cup laddering in the vc that was completely empty, as expected. And then I stumbled across Fucking Lady Writer our of the damn blue on ladder when I was trying to get to 1400....and yeah I lost but I didn't lose that badly so I lowkey ate that. Anyway, ever since, I've had this shadow of doubt and dread whenever I load up a HC game because I really don't wanna face any of the HC makes anymore  :shudder: :dread: :scared: but alas, fate probably has other plans in mind. I might as well write my name in the loss column if I ever get sniped again.

Blundergoth v Munchy_Axolotls: About a year ago I was in Walmart with my bsf and we found this axolotl coloring book in the books aisle and they were lowkey adorable with the whiskers and tails AND AS IT TURNS OUT CLODSIRE IS AN AXOLOTL!!! But don't get me wrong, anyone with the name of a famous YouTuber in their user name should NEVER be underestimated. The inspo also provides an inheritance of skill. However, destiny and stan culture for everyone's favorite friend-shaped mon just reign supreme here.

Yerdunc v Vioz: Every time I think of Yerdunc I think of a damn basketball and like the NBA and shit. And yeah, there's the NBA in Canada, but who the hell even likes the Raptors? I'm honestly tempted to root against Yerdunc for this alike but I won't be biased by something as small as a NBA team. Plus, the avatar of choice is iconic, but Vioz also delivered with the avatar. In a difficult choice, I'm picking the prime number.

Drowsy69 v Slikkles: The most ironic thing about this pairing is that I'm pretty sure Drowsy, like most of us, has a questionable sleep schedule, like possibly even worse than Slikkles. Or is that just the Mandela effect doing its thing on me? Am I being gaslighted?? Anyway, I like the French.

Michielleus v MasterJ007: James Bond reference + the most underrated Discord pfp is already a good starting combo, but Michielleus brings being a former playoffs winner to the table.... Michielleus also brings being my first opp for the Minior circuit in BabyRands and sweeping me to the table and unfortunately for Michielleus, I'm petty as fuck.

ThatOneNoob12345 v John Dozo: Dozo the Bozo the Dondozo the biggest RBTT snub last year making it to playoffs yet again v probably the most promising newcomer of the year. Dondozo brings consistency during tour performances as well as being an honorary Drampa, but ThatOneNoob brings the underdog energy and the motivation to be the best newcomer in a while. As for me, my loyalties will stay with whom they'd been with beforehand. (inb4 ThatOneNoob is a veteran and I'm stupid)

LoSconoscuito v Failbor: I damn near spelled Losco's username wrong because I'm blind as hell so I WILL be keeping this in mind when making predictions. When it comes to avatars, Losco gets a point for the personality pick and then a bonus point for being the higher seed. Overall, 2-1 I don't make the rules (I made all of the rules)

JustOut459 v C0mp: This game better not be played at 6-7 am because the last time I watched the #10 seed play at 6-7 am, I accidentally jinxed him. Speaking of 6-7, that meme is so fucking annoying and overused so I will not be rooting for the person who's # of tours and total points make a 6-7 reference side-by-side.

R1C3M4N v Drifting: Smogon is a lot like reality TV; there's a lot of drama. The randbats community has had its own fair share of drama, and I'm living for it. Maybe I'm just an obnoxious shit, idk, I wouldn't be the first person. Unrelated, but last night I was putting a fork away, and my brother was at the other counter like 6 feet away doing something, and he just walks backwards not even paying attention and trips over my foot and then has the gall to get mad at me for BeInG iN tHe WaY when this stupid ass ogre-looking bitch wasn't even paying attention to begin with, but it's MY fault he's dumb as hell. And don't get me started on those shows where someone drags the same issue that's gone on for a month and then blames the one person that calls them out for allegedly talking shit or whatever, which isn't even true, almost like something you'd see on a later season of Bad Girls' Club. Why all the talk about drama? Because I predict a match with energy and tension, cutting through the air like a knife.
Okay so update; Riceman added Mega Altaria for the trainer card which is iconic as fuck. However, with that being said, I'll drift into the sunset as I finish writing this whole ass text wall.

Ghostilex v Chains of Markov: The battle of the up and coming mains of Random Bullshit Your, I expect this to be an exciting battle with a ton of bullshit. As for my prediction, I'm rooting for the person who seems most like a math major bc I'm probably majoring in that at university.

Pleasure to work on the cards this year - thanks to 35Q71N for helping collect the desired background Pokémon for each player and a massive shoutout to Evilo42 for providing the template, helping me learn and figure out how to edit the cards, as well as doing half of the cards themselves, absolutely wouldn't be possible without their help!!!

Good luck to all participants, especially the BHFC bums :)

livid washed vs drifttrick - Two good all rounders, I know Livid and drifttrick put up numbers in 2/3 respectively, not familiar with how they do in other gens so it's a bit of a toss up - bolding higher seed

R1C3M4N vs Drifting - Have rarely seen either of them play, one is 2nd seed but the other made finals last year, no strong opinions :/

Michielleus vs MasterJ007 - MasterJ will lose in 5 and then get drafted R20... the pig is definitely somewhat underrated but Michi is incredibly consistent and I'd back him in 6/7/8, though two of those are mickey mouse gens so.

Adelynn vs soggydoggysage - Fellow alt spammer and poor sleeper, has 27% winrate against me on ladder... yeah Adelynn got this

Lady Writer vs Shadows4 - Shadows kinda clawed his way to get here with the last few opens whereas LW comfortably sits at the top with just 9 opens and is generally a better all rounder

yerdunc vs Vioz - Great Nailsage Sly.

LoSconosciuto vs Failbor - Somehow I've never seen Failbor play a game once despite him making Slam playoffs for the last 3? years...

Amaranth vs flameingpigey2 - I'd only definitively back Pigey in 5 and think the rest are kinda up in the air (maybe Doubles is a slight edge to Ama), going for the upset though

Hairoll vs MultiAmmiratore - Marginally more familiar with Hairoll than Multi but honestly haven't seen much of either play rands myself so no opinion

JustOut459 vs c0mp - Probably my most anticipated match this round, they picked 6-9 + Doubles so pretty much all the real formats and I really look forward to seeing this matchup. I rate Justin a little more across the 5 formats though, particularly 9/Dubs

drowsy69 vs Slikkles - Both put up similar performances in WCOR, both have somewhat comparable slam results, probably go with the french though because he's done this once before and will probably choke less

blundergoth vs Munchy_Axolotls - Swalot is such a tough pick for the card... but otherwise haven't watched either play much so

O1V7O2X9O vs lichess - Only seen lichess do well in 9? and O1V is a more consistent performer in and out of rands

thatonenoob12345 vs John Dozo - #TON2026.

Ghostilex vs Chains of Markov - 1 might be slightly favoured to Chains, Dubs definitely so, but any modern singles gen I'd back Ghost over Chains and think he takes it overall

Star Wheel vs FreyaknightVGC - Another similarly close matchup, probably in my top 3 most anticipated this round, would have been sick if they picked a real gen instead of 4 but whatever. Unfortunately... sickens me to say but... overall in Star Wheel's favour across the fairy singles gens...

Shoutout paysa and Evilo42 for the cards, they look splendid.

If I bold against you please see it as a personal attack and take it to heart.

livid washed vs drifttrick - zarude derby, expecting this one to go down to the wire. 2 incredibly level headed players, one of the sets of the round for mine.

R1C3M4N vs Drifting - drifting locks in hard when he cares. Riceman def a good shot but drifting takes it.

Michielleus vs MasterJ007 - better player wins

Adelynn vs soggydoggysage - soggy doggy could possibly pull an upset but adelyn has shown to be super stable with more skill across formats. My favourite capitalist secures the w

Lady Writer vs Shadows4 - better players wins again

yerdunc vs Vioz - tough newcomers, I see yerduncs peaks as higher while having the same skillset

LoSconosciuto vs Failbor - za

Amaranth vs flameingpigey2 - both incredible, ranths flexibility will get him over the line here.

Hairoll vs MultiAmmiratore - minior circuit champ looking to go 2/2, but could go either way, hairoll has pleasantly surprised me this year

JustOut459 vs c0mp - justout pricefixing for rbtt selfbuy

drowsy69 vs Slikkles - slik is def more consistent, could see an upset happening tho.

blundergoth vs Munchy_Axolotls - my familiarity with the muncher's play is low, has good results and is my dark horse for a deep run. Could have more conviction if one or both of these fuckers knew how to submit formats

O1V7O2X9O vs lichess - far more versatile.

thatonenoob12345 vs John Dozo - luckier player wins. Ggs. However, should Jonny channel his airline induced rage properly, he will emerge victorious.

Star Wheel vs FreyaknightVGC - highlight set, Freya not bringing hc will bite him in the ass

I really didn't do anything tbf. I just bugged a lot of people, which is just routinary behavior from me :D
Evilo42 (you'll get a thousand pings from this thread but it's for a good cause ahah) and paysa deserve all the flowers for the beautiful trainer cards!

I'd love to make predictions but for the joy of everyone who is playing in the circuit, I will not do them publicly so that my jinxing powers won't have affect the outcome of any matches >:)
I'll probably limit myself to make some commentary about the formats picked but that's going to happen next week, since I am busy for the next four days.
Too many friends to root for, so glhf everyone and may the best and most versatile randbattler win!

Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery
Red = Left
Blue = Right
White = Toss up <--Fuck this option, be real and pick one or coinflip it

Congratulations to everyone who's made it this far! Now...

livid washed vs drifttrick - Gen 1 Gen 2 Gen 3 Gen 7 Gen 9 (2 excellent all-rounders that run good fairly often. Probably the best rd 1 MU)
R1C3M4N vs Drifting - Gen 2 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 Hackmons (Riceman has had a good year in rands and I expect it to continue if he doesn't tilt when some haxx inevitably occurs)
Michielleus vs MasterJ007 - Gen 3 Gen 6 Gen 7 Gen 8 Gen 9 (Its Michi)
Adelynn vs soggydoggysage - Gen 3 Gen 6 Gen 7 Gen 9 Doubles (As long as Adelynn gets more than 6 hrs of sleep beforehand then she's probably gonna win. Otherwise, its joever)
Lady Writer vs Shadows4 - Gen 1 Gen 2 Gen 4 Gen 5 Gen 8 (LW is going to get MU'd in gen 5 for the theatrics, otherwise this should go as expected)
yerdunc vs Vioz - Gen 5 Gen 6 Gen 7 Gen 8 Gen 9 (despite the bolds, I think this is fairly close. Both of em like to go for shiest shit so whoever reels that urge in and only applies it at good times will win)
LoSconosciuto vs Failbor - Gen 2 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 Doubles (not gonna sugarcoat it, this is the 2nd most lopsided MU in rd 1)
Amaranth vs flameingpigey2 - Gen 4 Gen 5 Gen 8 Doubles Hackmons (minor upset alert as I think Pidgey can steal the volatile gens vs Mr. Consistent)
Hairoll vs MultiAmmiratore - Gen 2 Gen 3 Gen 6 Gen 7 Gen 9 (tbh I don't know enough about either so I coinflipped all of these. Hairoll runs good ig)
JustOut459 vs c0mp - Gen 6 Gen 7 Gen 8 Gen 9 Doubles (JustOut459 wins these if he consistently keeps his timer under 30 seconds. Otherwise its anyone's game)
drowsy69 vs Slikkles - Gen 1 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 Doubles (Another close one, HOWEVER! Drowsy has played a bo35 gen 1 rands vs me in the past and now currently vs Adelynn so I give him the edge here)
blundergoth vs Munchy_Axolotls - Gen 2 Gen 3 Gen 4 Gen 9 Doubles (:tomato: Anyways, riding for my WCOR captain + not familiar with Munchy_Axolotls game. Might be surprised tho, will see)
O1V7O2X9O vs lichess - Gen 2 Gen 4 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 (I believe Wifi password usernames are an underexplored buff to rands capabilities)
thatonenoob12345 vs John Dozo - Gen 2 Gen 4 Gen 7 Gen 9 Doubles (The other lopsided MU so I coinflipped these as well. Unfortunately, TON12345 always runs good)
Ghostilex vs Chains of Markov - Gen 1 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 Doubles (Ghost comes back from being dead and snatches Markov's chain in season 7 of Power)
Star Wheel vs FreyaknightVGC - Gen 4 Gen 6 Gen 8 Gen 9 Doubles (the reason I said probably for LW vs drift: this should be a banger set. Slight edge to Wheel but this is my least confident predict)

Everyone please join the rands discord and tag circuit matches when you play <3

livid washed (1/9) vs drifttrick (2/3/7) - I'm a drifttrick believer so I'm bolding them for the upset. This is a highlight match for me for sure, I think both are quite competent in 1/2/3/9 so it really comes down to mu (especially for SM). Will be a fun watch for sure

R1C3M4N (2/6) vs Drifting (8/9/HC) - I'm ngl I was shocked to see aiwla won GSC when looking at their best performances. Another situation where both players are (imo) evenly matched. I'll give Drifting the edge in the recent gens based on vibes, and if their HC performance isn't a fluke and they can win a (reasonably) balanced mu, they should take it. Again, could go either way.

Michielleus (6/7/9) vs MasterJ007 (3/8) - Hard to bold against michi, especially when 6/7 (fuck all of you) are in the pool. MasterJ is no slouch tho and can put up a good fight, but I think Michi is gonna be hard to beat here.

Adelynn (9/dubs) vs soggydoggysage - IDK how to break up the tiers here ngl but I think Adelynn should be favored in 9 and dubs. Hard for me to conceive them losing 6/7/3, especially given how MU based some of those tiers can be, so I'll give them the edge here.

Lady Writer (1/2/8) vs Shadows4 - if lady writer can actually lock in (and I don't mean getting perma'd for swearing) I think he's a top 3 rands player on the site and my favorite to go the distance. obvious NE glazing but thats my boy.

yerdunc (5/6/9) vs Vioz (7/8) - finally a good fucking format pool lmao. I'm still mad at yerdunc for mu'ing me out of swiss top cut but I think of the formats available they are more favored.

LoSconosciuto (6/8/9) vs Failbor - Ball guy ftw. Failbor is a sleeper and can def pull off the upset, but if losco is in the mood to play well I think they are favored here.

Amaranth (8/dubs) vs flameingpigey2 (4/5/HC) - Pretty surprised by ama's picks here i cant lie. No RBY/GSC (even with pidgey's GSC result) definitely caught me off guard. Definitely think they are favored in 8, IDK who picked dubs but I'll give them the edge in that as well (vibes). But I think pidgey is stronger in DPP/BW, so this will likely come down to HC imo.

Hairoll (2/6/7) vs MultiAmmiratore (3/9) - This is a tossup, could go either way. Hairoll is quite strong in 6/7 and 9, and given their GSC result im inclined to give them the edge. That said, chiori is also very very good and I can see them giving hairoll a run for their money. Giving the higher seed the bold here.

JustOut459 (8/9/dubs) vs c0mp - Another big toss-up here, really could go either way. Both are extremely strong in 6/7 (again fuck you), so it comes down to the other three tiers for me. I think Justin has more experience in 9/dubs/8 so I'm leaning towards favoring them for those tiers. c0mp is also in master's finals this week which I believe is more of a priority for them. If they have the time to practice I think they have a fighting chance, but given everything going on justin has my vote.

drowsy69 (dubs/1/8) vs Slikkles (6/9) - tossup for me. Chat is whispering that drowsy has been grinding RBY but its bo1 so who knows. They have the better results for dubs and 8 so thats why they get the bold. could go either way for me, bolding higher seed is easy so
:blobshrug:

blundergoth (3/4) vs Munchy_Axolotls (dubs/9) - IDK who picked GSC but uhhh whoever wins that has my pick. Blunder ladders DPP (and ADV?) more frequently, so they should be favored here. Munchy performed better in SV and is clearly favored in dubs. Bolding lower seed to balance out the bracket.

O1V7O2X9O (2/4/6/8) vs lichess (9) - steven wifi is my sleeper to go the distance for the whole thing. A strong roulette player (should start for rbtt imo) and definitely favored in the old gens. Lichess had a stellar performance in swiss/wcor but outside of that IDK how experienced they are, and wifi numbers is no slouch at SV either.

thatonenoob12345 (4/dubs) vs John Dozo (2/9/7) - much to the chagrin of my comrades above I will be bolding John here. maybe he'll get acted tho since he is insanely averse to playing mons. who knows.

Ghostilex (6/8/9) vs Chains of Markov (1)- ghosti is in call with me and i want to get drafted by him for rbtt so obligatory bold. In all seriousness, this is another close tossup, but I'll give ghosti the edge since they are competent in RBY (chains' best format) while slightly being more well rounded in the other formats. Again, MU will decide here (surprise surprise)

Star Wheel (6/9/8) vs FreyaknightVGC (dubs/4) - Another banger MU here. Freya did win a few KOTH matches so they are def competent in main gens and of course a dubs goat. That being said, star wheel has also continually been putting up some quality performances, especially in SV. excited for this one.
