Pokémon Legends: Z-A General Discussion

Ok, I know pathfinding in Hyperspace Lumiose can be a bit... eh sometimes, but I just had a weird bit of it. I was in a small hyperspace distortion, the field one with lots of scaffolding, and for some reason when I was in the field farther from the opening, my Meganium would run over to the scaffolding away from the pokemon I was targeting and then use its attacks. This wasn't always the case, but I have no clue what the issue was. It's not like usual where it gets stuck on mega crystals and continues to run getting nowhere. It was just flat out the wrong way.

This happened to me a lot in this exact zone, I think pathfinding is at its worst for it, especially down near the usual entrance with the car. Best solution I found was to just use ranged attacks like psychic/psyshock and hope it doesn't take too long

*Watches my Mewtwo get stuck on a scaffolding for 10 seconds, meanwhile the Pokemon I ordered it to attack is long gone or biting on its tail*

Also:

*Orders Mewtwo to destroy a Pokeball and watch it somehow totally whiff it either by shooting just above it or it positioned itself right in front of a tree or ledge*

Also:
WTF IS WITH THE MEGA HEATRAN LEVEL JUMP TO 180?!?!

Talk about a beginner's trap; I wasted 7 "lower" Hyper Berries I could have used on Zones. As a reminder, Mega Meowstic was Level 150, so within like an hour of gameplay the boss level jumps by 30 Levels and you won't know about it unless you spoiled yourself and read a guide!

Like, GF, I'm already struggling with getting through this DLC, and for me this is the straw that broke the Camerupt's back with me not just looking ahead on things with a guide...

... AND immediately I'm glad I did, as you're apparently going to need specific Hyper Berries soon and I may have used up some of them to make the donut for Mega Heatran. Wow, just f*** off GF.

I forget, do the Mega battles have a star ranking? I don't remember getting caught off guard by the level jump. I might have even just made a 5* donut so I was above it.

They do, and MH was a Level 4.

Sure, you can say it was my bad for not double-checking, BUT I will argue that since 4 stars hadn't appeared yet I still thought I had at least one more Rogue Mega Battle before the 4 stars then started appearing. And even then Meowstic was a 3 star yet was 150. Had it been like 160 then it would have aligned with the other Rogue Mega level's increase.

I think there was probably room to tweak the level ranges on the Ranks a bit, but it seems valid to introduce 4 Star Rank on the boss and have it be the bridge for your finales, especially when it's a legend.
And also I mean, it did tell you, so...

And re the berry collection aspect, this is the point where it ramps up but you're also going to be getting more opportunies to collect berries due to the increase in scan requirements and the 4* rank zones should start appearing in general iirc. Once the engine starts revving you start seeing a good return on berries, Battle Zones in particular were something I neglected for a while and the Delivery people berries help a lot. It also took me way too long to start using item power donuts since the berry ones pay out a lot. I had to do some extra ones for the Kyogre donut but I would have had what I needed much earlier if I was using both of those better

Do the higher star zones give out rarer/better Berries?

Getting increasingly worried that the new Megas and the remaining cast members will just never have their high quality sugimori art released
They just randomly released all of them today

A Pokemon that you just switched in is less likely to do that, I've found. So it might be worth switching frequently.

zero aura has been upgraded to one aura
They really can't figure out how to pose this guy, huh. Mega Zeraora really needed to go back to the drawing board.

Feraligatr too. Its gimmick can't be perfectly replicated in its still art, but they really should have made some tweaks to a least give a better hint of the gimmick. Like, give us a side view of the hood or something!

I think zeraora's pose is fine

Feraligatr meanwhile should have just done this

Like yeah okayw hatever you lose out on the "bite power" where the hood snaps down from the force but also I think with some careful body language and letting the hood "loosen" before coming back down would still work so long as we get an infinitely better neutral posing

Anyone else feel like this art looks kinda out of place?

I don’t really see anything off about it; I’m curious what about it seems that way to you.

To me, if any of these seem out of place, it’s the two Mega Raichu, especially in comparison to the art for regular and Alolan Raichu:

It almost looks more like art for the anime to me.

Another oddity is that Mega Raichu X’s tails look almost the same texture-wise as in its 3D render:
