BW OU: SoulWind vs Cow I think cow has grown exponentially as a player since I first encountered him but I think soulwind has the experience. I think cow has a better knowledge of the current metagame so there definitely could be potential for an upset.
BW OU: GaryTheGengar vs Star gotta vote gtg on this one but could go either way.
BW OU: harshest vs sugarhigh I haven’t seen much gameplay from sugarhigh so it’s hard for me to gauge how well he can play but from the replays and games I’ve watched from harshest he seems like the stronger player here.

199 Lives and Lady Bug on the starting block for DPP in 2026 is fucking sick ngl

Hi, all! I'll be trying to do some written predicts from week to week this season. These will be some highlight games that I'm especially looking forward to watching. No disrespect at all if you're not included; these matchups just caught my eye! That being said...

Iguana's Highlight Games of the Week

GSC OU: RealJester vs Rubyblood: A rematch of the SPL XV finals game, this is sure to be another epic clash of two of the best GSCers currently. Ruby has had a banger year in GSC, attaining the circuit ribbon and also going 6-2 in RoAPL against a tough field of players. Jester, interestingly, was the cause of one of those losses, and he posted his own remarkably successful 6-2 record in RoAPL playing GSC. The GSC support isn't substantial in favor of Ruby with perhaps only Skarph clearly able to assist. On the other hand, Jester's support by BlazingDark, ABR, and Rey could be very useful throughout this season. A very tight prediction to be sure, but ultimately I predict Ruby because I think his range of teams is larger than Jester's. Whereas Ruby could bring anything from Missy stall to Whirlwhind Zap HO, Jester tends to stick more to comfort builds (double Electrics, Eggy + Golem offense, NidoGarTtar builds, etc.). A must-watch game to kick the season off!

SV OU: clean vs zS: A banger early season matchup between two of the best SVers in the pool. zS has had a hot year, of course winning WCoP and also qualifying for OLT. Both clean and zS had solid SPL performances last year, on the Wolfpack and Cryos, respectively. zS, though, stands at a stellar 15-7 in SV sheet games while clean has put up a record of 10-14. It's a marked discrepancy between them, but one that's minimized, perhaps, by the teambuilding prowess of clean. A close prediction, as so many of these are, but ultimately I'm choosing zS. The absolute dominance behind their 6-1 record in WCoP makes me think this could be the beginnings of a very strong season ahead with the Raiders.

SM OU: Vert vs Tace: A tough early-season test for the self-proclaimed GOAT...we'll get a sense quickly of how well Vert's SV offensive prowess can translate into another Fairy Gen in USUM OU this season. It's an interesting contrast because while Tace has extensive experience USUMing in the past for many tours––and succeeding in them––Vert doesn't have quite the same (though some to be sure). Where Vert makes up for this disparity is in incredible support. ABR, blunder, Rey as managers...the USUM support is off the charts. Not to mention there's then SoulWind, and Poek, and the list goes on. You give a player like Vert––already immensely talented in-game––that level of support and he's going to be hard to beat. Got to go with him this week.

SV OU: DAHLI vs bbeeaa: Man, I'm sure there will be plenty of these matchups in the early draws of the SPL season, but why do the most fire matchups have to come so early? DAHLI vs. bea is a must-watch game to be sure, for many reasons. DAHLI had a sub-par season last SPL, but I think it was one that certainly doesn't reflect his prodigious skill in the tier. Make no mistake: He's a force to be reckoned with in SV. And then there's bea. Oh bea...what's there to say? Incredibly dominant Fairy Gens player, certainly one of the best SS players ever. Easily justified nearly 40k pricetag. To me, this game will be a good barometer of not just bea's season ahead, but also many elements of the Pack's season: how will the SV slots fare? Will Gtcha/Gondra/bea stay as they are, or will they switch Gens given that all three can play each of USUM-SV extremely well? One of the biggest advantages of the Wolfpack squad is their flexibility, but getting off to a hot start in SV will surely set them on the right track. A closer call than perhaps some would predict, but I think bea's understanding of SV and vicious in-game play will be the determining factors here.

BW OU: GaryTheGengar vs Star: BW is––to no one's surprise given how often I lambaste its abysmal tiering over the years––not my favorite Gen of OU, but this is a highlight match without a doubt. Star is one of the best tournament players on this site. Time and time again, he succeeds, pretty much regardless of the Gen/tier. For most laypeople, he's not particularly known for his BW, but perhaps he should be after dominating BW invitationals and putting up many fearsome performances. Gary is not at all an easy opponent, though; in an already-stacked lineup of BWers, Gary is an experienced veteran with plenty of success in the builder and in high-stakes games. His solid approach isn't flashy but certainly is to be taken seriously. I will be curious to see Star's approach in this game, and I'll give him the slight edge especially given his proclivity for winning big games.

SV OU: Nat vs lax: DAHLI vs. bea round 2...why so early? This could be an SPL-finals-quality game happening in Week 1. Oh well. Maybe the most exciting matchup of this first week of SPL features two of the best SVers. Nat returns to the tier after...well, let's just leave it at she has had a proclivity to be banned. Regardless, this doesn't at all diminish her skill in the tier or her previous success. Nat's in-game play is exhilarating to watch. Many flashy plays but with the deep understanding of the gamestate to back them up. lax is lax: one of the most successful SVers since the Gen started, winning an OLT and putting up solid win numbers consistently. I think not a lot separates these two, but I do view lax's team choices as slightly stronger than Nat's. And given his already immaculate in-game play, that's a challenging task to overcome.
