Welcome to the third Lower Tiers Circuit finals! 8 of the top low tiers players across RBY Ubers, UU, NU, PU, and ZU will compete for the championship in a BO5, Single Elimination Tournament. The seeds are as follows:

6. Zpice (5340 points)
7. ButtGallon (5310 points)
8. NotVeryCake (4350 points)

Round 1
Sabelette vs NotVeryCake
Wanted in 49 States vs ButtGallon
hammer798 vs Zpice
Maris Bonibell vs PKMN Master™

Tournament Rules:
  • General Tournament Rules: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/tournament-rules-and-general-guidelines.3642760/
  • This will be a single elimination, best of five tournament.
  • The higher seed picks the tier for the first game, from [Gen 1] Ubers, UU, NU, PU, or ZU. The loser of each game picks the next tier to be played. Tiers may only be played once each. In the event of a tie, the tier that was tied is replayed before continuing.
  • All tournament games must be played on Pokemon Showdown!, and replays are required for all rounds. It is preferable to play on Smogtours - if players disagree on which server to play on, Smogtours is the default.
  • Each round will last one week. If you and your opponent are unable to schedule despite both players making an effort, extensions of up to 3 days may be granted. If one player fails to attend a scheduled time or does not make a genuine effort to schedule, an activity win may be awarded to the other player at the tournament host's discretion. If neither player makes an effort to schedule, the host may "coinflip" the win, awarding it at random. Please schedule publicly so as to ensure activity wins are judged correctly. See the Tournament Scheduling Guidelines for further information.

The deadline for the first round is Sunday, December 14 at 9pm GMT -8. Good luck and have fun to all competitors!

Sabelette vs NotVeryCake I’m a big fan of predicting upsets and this one looks possible. In normal circumstances Sabelette would be favored vs the entire field, but they seem to be stepping back from the game. Though I’m still expecting a banger. Meanwhile, I assume Cake is extremely motivated, and after facing them in multiple tours, their clicking is very strong. If Cake can get past Sabelette, she has great odds of making it to finals or winning the whole thing, as her Ubers play is probably only contested in this pool Sabelette and maybe one other. Predicting Cake for fun but rooting for Sabelette, because her winning the whole thing would be a great send off from playing mons if that’s indeed what she decides.

Wanted in 49 States vs ButtGallon I’d love to predict another upset for hype moments and aura, but after talking with wanted and seeeing their recent individuals, they are just very solid in all of these meta games building wise and likely have more games under their belt. Even if buttgallon has the edge in PU and maybe ZU, the difference is still pretty close. I think this set will be decided by the Ubers game which wanted will take by a hair.

hammer798 vs Zpice I’m very high on zpice since they’ve been doing very well in team tours and got to play pu and nu in rbypl vs tough opponents. Hammer of course has been great in NU so I’m excited to see that game. Another set that might come down to 2 low tier players mashing buttons with Mewtwo which is hype.

Maris Bonibell vs PKMN Master™ Maris has the best in-game of anyone in the tour, and has won tours consisting of much more difficult and sophisticated tiers (gsc zu). Has played all of these meta games in high pressure tournament settings and is motivated. I’m not familiar with Shane’s game as much but he had a great tour in OU so I wouldn’t be surprised if he does well.

Epilogue: A RBY Reflection

Winning the Lower Tier RBY Circuit is a moment I will always treasure. But after competing in several team tournaments along the way, I came to realize something far more important than any individual title: the value of friendship.

This victory is not mine alone.

Every time I finished a set, I sent the replay directly to the people who trained with me, tested teams with me, and grinded alongside me — with a simple message attached: “In your honour.” And I meant it. Honestly, they are just as much the victors as I am.

As cliché as it may sound straight out of the anime, it is my reality: Pokémon is about friendship.

Winning solely by oneself has its merits. It’s something you can say you achieved alone. But to me, that path is a dangerous, rickety road — one where a single loss can spiral into disaster. When you play alone, defeat can shatter confidence. When you play supported by a family of friends, a loss is not the end of your ego, but the beginning of the next step toward improvement.

I play knowing that I stand on the shoulders of giants. The skills I use today were transferred to me through the effort, insight, and dedication of others. Their progress became my foundation. For that, I am deeply grateful. Without the friends I met along the way, my success against top names would never have been remotely possible.

To those still waiting for their moment — hear me out.

Train. Grind. And most importantly, have fun with the people who help you along the way. If you do that, then perhaps one day we’ll cross paths, battle it out, and become friends who support each other in the future.

I may put the name PkMn Master in front of my username, but I’ll let you in on a secret:

The student strives to become the master.
And the master strives to remain the student.

So let’s keep playing. Let’s keep learning.
And let’s continue to grow — together.

Thank you and...

MAY LORD HELIX BE WITH YOU!
