OU DPP OU Viability Ranking [updated May 2025]

some of Samsung's points are fundamentally correct, he's just pushing them further than they actually go and is expressing them in the worst possible manner, while also mixing the correct stuff in with statements that are provably false. breloom does take a hit here, and it would prefer to run spore over stun spore if it had the option. that being said, swords dance is definitely a set (and a more common one now that spore is gone), and while stun spore was very niche before (did see play but it was around 2% of looms), the freeing up of a new moveslot, and the fact its not specifically competing with another status makes it see a lot more play now in theory.

I agree that breloom is now B tier. still better than lucassio but probably (purely speculation on my end) more matchup dependant than lucario

I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested in this or not, but I found Breloom’s usage and moveset stats on the top of the ladder (1760+ according to the archived data) and what I specifically want to focus on here are Breloom’s most common moves and teammates during December 2025, which would have been the last full month before the Sleep suspect took place (this resulting in January’s usage stats being altered somewhat).

Again, this is is for the top of the OU ladder, so I understand that tournament results may vary from these numbers. Still interesting to see, though. As expected, Spore was Breloom’s most common move with over 90% usage and Seed Bomb just below that. Mach Punch being at around 69% isn’t too surprising either but it’s around the 50% mark where things start to open up a little bit. You may notice, at least not last month, top Breloom players generally weren’t opting for Stun Spore very much, and that Force Palm made it onto that list seemingly in its place. I personally think Stun Spore Breloom has been underrated for a while now but I can see the thought process here. Force Palm still offers a 30% paralysis rate in addition to being a viable STAB option, albeit weaker than most of Breloom’s other options power-wise and lacking Mach Punch’s priority.

When you look at Breloom’s common teammates, too, you notice a lot of them can also spread paralysis themselves, somewhat limiting the need for Breloom to run a 75% accurate option off of its just okay Speed stat- the paralysis spreaders that commonly pair with Breloom are either faster, have the more accurate option of Thunder Wave, or both. Stun Spore being able to hit Ground-Types unlike Thunder Wave doesn’t mean much when you’re more than likely clicking Seed Bomb or a different Grass move in those matchups anyway.

I don’t know if this changes your guys’ ongoing discussion's in any meaningful ways so I apologize in advance if this post doesn’t serve much of a purpose.

My boi Luke is getting the backhand here...

But I do agree that Loom isn't close to A since Loom's spore is what catapults this mushroom to OU stardom ever since ADV, I do think Loom's merits in giving Tar trouble & Grass/Fighting is surprisingly hard to check assuming you don't have a spare Zapdos...

Again, Loom's strengths over Celebi & Shitmin is it's the only Leech Seeder that Clefable cannot get cute on for obvious reasons. (Which was why when Clef was used more even in 2019, cracks formed in the old guard) It's tricky to make Loom working again without mentioning paralysis support, but defensive Loom has enough tools to dismantle fattier teams with both boosting options, able to ignore sand, & Leech seed. Maybe Stun Spore Loom will take off, you can make an exception that its one of the rare mons that can check DD Tar thanks to priority Mach punch.

You have to be careful trying to get a meta snapshot from 1760. There aren't many players over 1600 so these stats get heavily warped by a couple of players. You're mostly looking at the choices of a couple of players for that month.

Ah. That would explain the 0.0234 average weight :worrywhirl:
