Media The Dragon Ball Thread

I wasn't aware that we had a dragon ball thread, but I saw it on the front page. i'm of course a long time fan, and have been reading it in japanese lately, on the cell arc now. I actually bought jp physicals the first time i went to japan in 2011, so it feels like finally making good on an old promise to myself

On the topic of Trunks drawings, the third Interval Special illustration dropped a few days ago and it features a very dripped out Present Trunks with Saiyaman X2 Goten:

Seemingly apropos of nothing a new Daima trailer dropped. The official website has some accompanying new art:

Mira-lookin' dude is named Glorio, the new demon king(?)'s called Gomah and the hooded figure is currently dubbed "The Masked Majin" although it's doubtful that is their real name.

Also, they're definitely hiding something with Gohan, right? He's literally the only major Z Fighter we have seen absolutely no sign of
 

This ending fills me with this vaguely forlorn, melancholic sensation and I'm not entirely sure why. Something to do with the aesthetics and vibe being so far detached from what Dragon Ball has been for so long? I don't think so, no other early OG DB media makes me feel like this.
 
I'm Reading Dragon Ball for the first time and noticing all the influence it had on other mangas.
For example there's a scene in One Piece where Luffy hits his opponent and then angrily tells him to get up. I wondered why he did that because it seemed a bit unusual for him, but now I realize this is because the scene is highly inspired by the Goku vs Piccolo fight, where Goku says the same thing to Piccolo.
 
While it's hype to see the announcements of all the new stuff, I'm a little concerned about the Beerus arc retelling, notably for the fact that it'll probably lead into retellings of all the arcs, and what i'm expecting from that is that it'll be more closely based on how the Manga told those stories. While I liked the Dragon Ball Super Manga as a whole, I was not much of a fan of the Universe Survival arc in it, and as someone who finds the anime version of that one of their favorite arcs of dragon ball even with some blatant flaws, a recreation of the manga version of it would leave me less than pleased.

A lot of this is conjecture and I hope I'm proven wrong, but for now I'm not a massive fan of that announcement in particular

it's likely not a retelling. they're remastering the old anime, correcting and adding cuts because they want people to get into the super anime's continuity without having to witness that eye-gouging episode where goku fights beerus. that is also why it has yamamuro's style still.

Worth noting that AnimeAjay said on twitter that some manga-exclusive content will be implemented (his example was that Episode 1 will feature Goku's image training against Freeza, Cell and Buu from Chapter 1). If that's too inside baseball-y for you, the official DBS website blurb seems to corroborate this:

This mostly doesn't amount to much for this specific arc but I do wonder if they'll cut Goku absorbing god ki and reverting into Super Saiyan. That moment was the catalyst for so much power-scaling nonsense in the original anime that the manga wisely side-stepped
 
today i learned there was a dragon ball thread lfg, chat are there any dokkan enjoyers still around? we're like 3 days away from adult daima ss4 goku and ss3 vegeta running the game for (hopefully) the next year

if they actually went the manga route for the goku black arc i'd be so happy gosh. at the very least, it could somewhat fix that horrendous ending. im praying.

Unfortunately

Daima anniversary is pretty hype, though I as usual have about 0 stones going into it. Idk which I'm gonna go for first though, we'll have to see

same... i got baited by the future gohan+tag gohan/gamma 1 and then the new years banners was great value for me so I might've gone a little crazy and used all my stuff lol... but theyve been handing out stones like candy since so ill be going in probably with like 600ish completely f2p, those red zone/magnificent battle resets were so clutch
 
I actually managed to get the Gohan/Gamma 1 from the free tickets, but also went for Future Gohan/Trunks (and thankfully got them), New Years banner I think I did about 2 rotations between the two banners, and ended up getting quite a bit of value out of them, getting like 4 different DFEs I was missing and also rainbowing the tag Frieza/Gogeta. Still have probably 100 stones available from the challenge event reset, but only have 50 stones to my name right now
