Smog Awards 2025: Voting Round

luisin and myself have been working very hard to make BSS a fun place to hang out and compete and it truly warms my heart to see our community nominated for so many awards. A very heartfelt thank you from all of BSS staff
Thank you very much for all the cool battle stadium singles stuff. I really enjoy engaging with folks who also like BSS and the whole community also welcomed and treated me like family.
A huge thank you to all the people on the discord as well <3

My Smogon career has come a long way. PS staff to grammar checker to humanist commentator and analyst. I'm gradually settling in my place. It's been great fun using and honing my craft, and it's great not working under a hierarchy anymore.

It's nice having people appreciate your creation, and there's few places I'd rather be than beside a fellow commentator like AN. Thank you to everyone who brightens this community, here, on the Discord, and on PS. Stay curious and keep your heart open.

I have spent years in this community crafting the juiciest, funniest and wittiest posts that will inspire future generations to come on this shite, yet I don't get a tiny mention on these awards. Shame on you, Smogon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Making a small post since a lot of users are probably not into the research part.

All the nominated researchers are great. Even though Anubis, DarkFE and DaWoblefet use tools that allow us to investigate Gen 8 and 9 mechanics that aren't normally obtainable in-game, there's no doubt in my mind that Cazenovia has been the most influential researcher over the past year when it comes to Pokémon Showdown. They're super active—not only investigating questions by other users in the Bug Reports and Research threads, but also doing their own thing and discovering new mechanics out of nowhere.

If, in 2026, we're still submitting weekly bug fixes for Gens 3–7, a lot of that is thanks to Cazenovia's work. I hope you win that category, cause I just found out I'm nominated in the other one with you ahah

Thank you so much for the kind words! You've been just as helpful (if not more) in helping find and test old gen mechanics, and more than half of my bug reports probably would never get fixed on PS! if it wasn't for all the time and effort you've put in with coding them. It's unfortunate that we're both in Best New User together, because your contributions to PS! have been so immense over the past year, and I think you clearly deserve to win the category.

also the irony is not lost on me that I was nominated for Best New User with an 11+ year account

A big thank you to everyone who nominated me this year. I was really only expecting a nomination in one category, so seeing my name in multiple was a welcome surprise.

I'd like to take a moment to give a shout-out to some of my fellow co-nominees and some others:
The vast majority of you don't know this because it's all behind-the-scenes, but autumn literally does so much for the GP team. The amount of passion that she brings to our tutoring system and improving the GP experience is honestly insane, and I constantly aspire to be like her in this regard.

Most of you know a fairy from her work in Tours, TFP, UMs, and Circus. She's probably moderating or is heavily involved with like five more sections that I have no idea about - she really does that much. I had a great time meeting her IRL a couple of weeks ago, where we basically just talked about mafia for two days straight lmao.

goldmason needs no introduction. He does so much for this site and has interacted so positively with so many of you that were I to talk about everything it would easily turn into a three-page essay. Heck, he shows up thirteen times on the voting slate! I will spare everyone that wall of text, but suffice it to say, goldmason is the goatmason.

I have to thank Marnie for giving me the opportunity to moderate (and now lead!) our Social Media section. She's been incredibly helpful in getting me up to speed and is always level-headed and generally on top of it. I always enjoy working together!

Murphy Lawden is one of the kindest and hard-working users out there. Those in the tours community know how much he does over there, while I am much more familiar with his C&C work. Users that keep such an active presence across both sections are few and far between, and to do so while being super friendly is a rare combination, indeed. I always enjoy his random DMs, as well; while I admit that some of the Lappland references are lost on me, they are entertaining nonetheless.

LonelyNess is a great guy and a great pal - I always have a good time talking with him in a mafia server or via Discord DM about any and every topic.
Oh also how could I forget:

Spotted a huge error in the voting that you need to address ASAP.

In the best name change vote, you have cyclonez_ -> jumpheart. This is correct.

But then you have a contradiction right below it. I've done my best to provide a visual:

To be frank, there's no scenario that exists in which an underscore at the end of a name should ever qualify for a best name change.

In fact, it's such a terrible decision that the user in question hasn't won a single tournament game since this change.

But what I also now question is the threat level of the users who actually think this is a good name. Not to mention, the diabolical nature of WANTING the underscore when Mattz was available.

That's why my initial reaction is, this must be an error.

If it's not an error, immediate 4 pointer imo. We shouldn't be showcasing such a dangerous example of poor decision making to our users.

ty everyone who voted for me for the nominations!! wasn't too surprised at best pet mods user since i was up for that last year, and best name change isnt too much of a shock since my old user was, indeed, that bad, but i was (and still am) absolutely stunned at being up for nicest user. i mean look at my competition there. whoever wins is absolutely deserving and i am very happy that you all think i stand alongside them.

im very grateful for all my friends ive been able to make on this site and my accomplishments along the way. i am so glad you all appreciate me as much as i appreciate you. stay wonderful <3

Woah thanks for the best programmer nomination! Just don't look at my GitHub contributions graph for the latter half of the year.

I do want to point out that there's been a lot of talented people in the dev sphere not just helping with Pokemon Showdown recently (Hydra and p9 come to mind), also the good people in the Pet Mods forum do some insane stuff too you really gotta check it out.
