Pokémon Day 2026 - Pokemon Winds and Waves coming 2027! Champions April 2026

With Champions out soon maybe they want that to have some breathing room.

Also, by using Champions as a "buffer", maybe the Pokemon Company is hoping to buy enough time for current economic problems to sort themselves out by next year. It'll not only give more people time to buy Switch 2s, but also be long enough for Nintendo to decide to release a Switch 2 Lite.

Gen 10 is here!!!

And it's called Winds and Waves!!!

2027 is a surprise though. I wonder if it's early next year or late. Z-A didn't have any footage upon its initial reveal which was a giveaway it was going to be a long time before we saw anything. I wouldn't rule out this being like Legends: Arceus where it comes out Q1 2027 instead of late. But I'm curious.

I wanna quickly make an addendum to this. I've thought it over and I have sufficient levels of hopium to believe a 2027 release date for Gen 10 is possible. Now, I do not think it is at all likely: I would put the odds in the single digit %s. That said, it is legitimately plausible to me that enough powerful parties at Nintendo were spooked by the state of SV to have a vested interest in Gen 10 not meeting a similar or worse fate. The stakes are quite frankly very high: Not only is this Pokemon's 30th anniversary game but it'll also likely be one of the first major Switch 2 exclusives, a game that really has to make the case for buying the new hardware. To turn out something at or below SV's lack of polish would be very, very bad for all involved parties. Therefore, I could see a scenario where on Pokemon Day 2026 we are greeted not by a trailer but Ishihara giving a statement about Gen 10 being in development and targeting 2027 to be in the best state possible, and that the 30th anniversary year will mainly focus on a merchandise blitz and maybe a mainline game collection of some sort.
Thank you 2024 me on Bulbagarden, very cool!

Q1 is definitely a possibility this time around. 2027 VGC should be on gen 10, so they will want people to actually have time to... you know... play the game.

(Obviously it's not impossible to also have it on Champions with some assortment of rules and have it be a fresh experience but man that'd be what, 5 years in a row of gen 9, I don't see it)

So the names ended up being Pokémon Viento y Oleaje in spanish. Nice, tho 'oleaje' sounds a bit weird at first for a game's tittle.

The games are obviously an huge technical improvement over what Game Freak has been doing in the Switch. Pokémon also felt more alive with the custom animations lland they definitely cooked with the sea, which seems to be a huge part of Gen 10 overworld (7.8/10 again?). I like all the starters. The fact that we are at the beginning of 2026 and they've delayed the games for next year is honestly the best that could've happened to us.

Btw, Pokopia looks incredible. It has a lot of attention to detail, it seems full of content and very driven by creativity, and when they shown the player going underground to the lava areas and all that, it honestly felt like Minecraft but with Pokémon. That thing could be pretty big.

I do wonder if its going to be october-november 2027 or earlier in the year 2027, Im cool with either really

given how long it took for the switch 1 lite to happen after the switch 1, and given the current economic problems in the world regarding tech production and costs, I don't expect the switch 2 lite for years

This might be the first instance where it doesn't matter what the final evolution may end up being it will absolutely be an improvement over the stage 1 starters lmfao. 2027 is certainly a choice but hey let it cook.

I wish we did get more info on champions other than "its coming in april" but ig good enough.

Still no home support announced for ZA lol...

Surprised at this. I can’t see it being pushed back beyond Champions release however.

Starters are…. interesting to say the least.

Sadly they’re all played out ideas it feels. None of them are initially speaking to me as past generations have (currently)

2027 is a big surprise, a welcome one. Hoping the extra development time is well worth it.

Well Champions release date makes a lot more sense in light of Wind and Waves coming out in 2027. I had to double take at both those release dates admittedly. They couldn't get wind and waves done in time for the big 30 it seems.

No big deal, I'll have time to play with Champions when it comes out before worrying about what comes next. Luckily I have plenty of other games to play in the meantime as well.

I feel vindicated as far as the Champions release date is concerned though. They want us to play Pokopia and they don't want any distractions for a few month. Champions better be good with all the time they've had though.

Edit: I need to give the starters some time before I comment on them.

Yeah I'm thinking it'll be early next year instead of late.

We have fully realized footage of what the world and game look like, we saw the starters, and we saw the player characters. That implies it's closer to being finished than Z-A was.

Z-A had a blueprint style teaser that revealed next to nothing about the game other than that it existed when it was first revealed 2 years ago.

I am glad they are taking their time with WW (are we going to call them WW?).

Games look promising graphic wise, and I'd rather not have another SV incident of games running at 5 FPS with tons of memory leaks due to needing to be released in rushed fashion.

There's plenty of stuff to play until then. (As well as people who may not have a S2 still needing to manage to obtain one)
WaWi. WaWi puts them in alphabetical order and makes it clear which game is which when you then talk about just Wi, whereas if you go WW you still end up using Wa and Wi elsewhere.

It's been 4 gens, it's alright, you can let the pain go. Skeledirge was even a quadruped.
making a starter line stay quadruped is a lot more difficult than people give it credit for

they want starters to be iconic and distinct from other regular pokemon and a lot of fan designs for starter lines that stay on all fours just look like regular pokemon to me

at least the mammals anyway

wiwa makes more sense because its not pokemon waves and winds, its winds and waves

also wawi sounds weird compared to wiwa, and WW is just weird anyway because thats too close to the ww1 and ww2 abbreviations lol
just like its crazy that parts of smogon says SS for sword and shield, lmao

nobody says pokemon moon and sun, alphabetically doesn't matter

According to the Japanese website, Home's 4.0 update is coming in Spring 2026.
The infographic shows off Champions so, I guess April for that too

The japanese website also has a few, ah, interesting articles
https://news.pokemon-home.com/ja/page/716.html

This one says you send pokemon from home on an "expedition" to Champions (probably a quirk of auto-translate). More relevantly, sending specifically Greninja, Mawile, Eternal Floette and a fourth one i already closed the tab on gets you their mega stones, with notes about how they have to be from Z-A specifically and can currently only be obtained in this way but might become available in the shope later

https://news.pokemon-home.com/ja/page/718.html

And this one, which is giving everyone in Champions a free Dragonite.
And the mega stone is from...the first season's battle pass (might be in the shop later too, from a footnote)

And reconfirmation that no you can't transfer Pokemon from Champions into Home.

Btw, Browt gang:

I’d be shocked if they did early 2027. Post holidays doesn’t make any sense commercially. Then again, not releasing the game this year doesn’t make sense commercially either (one could argue they’re also waiting for a larger playerbase to form on Switch 2)

Of course we remember L:A releasing in January, but that also had the major release of BDSP right before. Aside from that, only 3 mainline games have been released earlier than September. Red/Green in February, Fire Red and Leaf Green in January, and Black 2 and White 2 in June.
