BET YOUR AVATAR REASONING
Over the past 30 years, we have seen various trends rise and fall in the Pokemon starter design metagame. In the realm of Fire starters specifically, the past few generations have seen a lot of discourse around the meta dominance of "Fire starters with a Kraft single stuck to them," but that trend seems to be faltering lately. We've also had many people posting in the Gen 10 Fire Starters discussion thread, and responding to Fire Starter Design surveys, asking about Pombon's ability to operate a Hyundai 25L-7 forklift. Although that certainly remains on our radar, the council has determined that Pombon's potential to become bipedal, and the significant warping effects this will have on the metagame, have become too pressing to ignore.

BET YOUR AVATAR RULES
  • There are no requirements, anyone is allowed to enter.​
  • This is a bet on whether or not Pombon's final evolution will be bipedal or not.​

Posting as myself, not as a Bet Your Avatar council member, etc etc

This one is interesting, because it presents a kind of contradiction. The majority of starters, especially fire starters, do learn to stand on two legs. In fact, there has been only one fire starter in the history of the series that stays on the ground! On the other hand, the majority of dog Pokemon do not stand up. I consulted with my husband, who is an internationally acclaimed dog expert (achievements include: raising a dog that's marginally more popular than a fairy's dog; getting our dog into the Smogon Gallery). In consultation with him, we concluded that Pombon has cute little beady dog eyes, which is likely a quadrupedal indicator. Also, it seems to follow the body type of a "wide evolution" Pokemon, not a "tall evolution" Pokemon. In fact, I believe every fully-evolved dog Pokemon is either bipedal as a first stage Pokemon, or is single-stage itself.

Where this gets difficult is that I followed up by asking an actual dog, and he told me that dogs should stand up and Pombon will stand up because Pombon is cool. However, he (not Pombon) is very stupid, so I didn't listen to him.

I believe Pombon will stay on all fours and with God as my witness I will change my avatar to this if it does not:

yeah what the hell sure. think ill be going gecqua in the games proper but pombon is also very cool! i have a gut feeling it will be bipedal but i am also a dumbass so i will be betting pombom will stay on all fours.

two things:
do i get anything in return for betting
i do not have a sufficiently embarrassing image yet, so does anyone have any suggestions in that department
 
Pombon will stand up

We of the Smogon Doubles and VGC communities demand that Pombon stand and be given the following:

Fake Out
U-Turn/Parting Shot
Intimidate/Terrain Setting ability
Be really good with Assault Vest
Look ugly
Have 20% VGC usage

Edit: if I'm wrong I guess I'll give myself a Groudon pfp or something

If my bet is wrong, then I will have a trollface as my pfp. Because really, what's more embarrassing than having that as your pfp when it was created almost 20 years ago?

POMBOM WILL NOT STAND UP!!!!!!!

If I'm wrong (which I won't be,) I will change MY ENTIRE PROFILE to an AI-generated Charlie Kirk memorial. Too many people on this site have mocked him for standing up for truth and justice, and I will be the first Smogon Moderateur to stand proud in support of Charlie Kirk and everything (yes, EVERYTHING!) he stood for. That's only if I'm wrong, of course.

except the actually like horrible racist bigoted stuff i won't support that
 
As always, it's great seeing a lively and spirited debate in the Bet Your Avatar thread.

Matter of fact, I'm willing to add a parlay to my bet too. Not only will Pombom not stand, neither will Gequa. If either of these predicts are wrong, I will change my profile to the punishment I outlined. However, if I'm right, you must do your punishment for THREE months.

Do you accept? Or are you too scared to take a real risk?

I can't stop you Teh but I do think this level of self harm demands professional help

I will accept but I think you really should sleep on it for a few days before you wake up to the consequences of your actions

Addendum: if I lose, the one month pfp change also applies to Discord because i really don't use smogon all that much
