Pokémon Champions - releasing April 8, 2026

Yeah ... seems like switching could really be in the same priority bracket as mega-evolving now.
Greninja, being fast, mega-evolved before the opponent switched out while Scizor didn't.

(I'm not 100% sure which speed would count, that of the switched out Pokemon or the one switched in.)
(In this case, Trevenant switched out for Gyarados before Scizor mega-evolved.)

Paralysed Trevenant being faster than M-Scizor? Because it has always been the switched out speed that matters.

Unless Natural Cure somehow recalculates the speed before activating now (I don't think it does in SV, I'll try the double switch later today), that's not the case.

Most likely an older build in the first video, and they corrected it later for PAX

Edit: confirming Natural Cure doesn't recalculate the speed early in SV

Excited to see all the weird little quirks that are coming for this. Aside the Sharpness changes, and the PP changes I'm super curious how learnsets are even handled. I was thinking at first the game might have certain "available" TMs but it really seems a lot more granular than that, with lists per mon. I reallllyyy want to compare the full learnsets with the full learnlists from PLA/PLZA/SV/SWSH to see what other omissions there may be.

Also hoping for a few new ability swaps / gains. Sharpness Haxorus would be good!

at around 7:58, this Trevenant is faster than Mega Scizor when not Paralyzed so maybe they did change how Natural Cure works?
also the Trevenant and Scizor stat spreads have to be really odd in general

with them expanding the claw moves to be part of sharpness, I have to wonder if there's other move category changes coming too? Flash Cannon being counted as boosted by Mega Launcher would be nice. would also be nice if they could buff water pulse to be 80 as like a buff to Blastoise.

also with metal claw being added to sharpness along with all the other claws, it would be nice if they could buff it and aerial ace to be 70 bp so its more on par with the other sharpness moves. I could see them giving Mega Skarm Sharpness regardless.

Mega Launcher is far more narrow in scope than similar abilities because the moves affected by it have a very specific naming convention in Japanese. Unless Flash Cannon already qualified but wasn't boosted for some reason or Game Freak randomly changes their minds, I wouldn't expect anything.

I know but they already changed their minds on what counts as being boosted by Sharpness in Champions so...

If they can decide slashing = slicing now they can decide that Flash Cannon and maybe also Hydro Pump counts for having aura or a pulse, or just expand Mega Launcher to be more than just hadoukens

I mean the Sharpness change is very clearly the devs going "oops these moves should have counted already" because claw attacks fall under the criteria already established. Slash and Cut were on that list before Champions expanded it.

Mega Launcher begins and ends with "these are moves with hadō in their name." Unless there are more moves like that I don't see its list expanding.

Speaking of Flash Cannon, the ability Bulletproof is really inconsistent when it comes to blocking "cannon" moves.

Blocked by Bulletproof:
- :Toucannon: Beak Blast (Beak Cannon in Japanese)
- :Octillery: Octazooka (Okutank/Octillery Cannon)
- :Rhyperior: Rock Wrecker (Rock Cannon)
- :Vikavolt: Zap Cannon

Not blocked by Bulletproof:
- :Armarouge: Armor Cannon
- :Eternatus: Dynamax Cannon
- :Lucario-Mega-Z: Flash Cannon
- :Magearna-Mega: Fleur Cannon
- :Blastoise-Mega: Hydro Cannon
- :Corsola: Spike Cannon

I think it would not be unreasonable if Bulletproof was buffed to block all of the Cannon moves, while Mega Launcher was buffed to boost them.

Has anyone seen how any of these moves are classified in Champions?
EDIT: Water Pulse and Dark Pulse are "Pulse" moves, Weather Ball is "Ball & Bomb" move, and Hydro Cannon did not have a classification.

IVs are completely gone.

Yes

YES!

Gamefreak stared into the opportunity to monetize their shittiest game system into the world's worst gacha rolls and shot it dead. Hell yeah fellas. HELL YEAH.

No more esoteric bullshit.
No more strictly worse Pokemon.
Just use the stat screen to purposefully allocate your stats.
THEN PLAY!

RIP BOZO
REST IN PISS IVS
YOU DOGSHIT SYSTEM!

Sharpness was similar with zan, with population bomb being a cut type move despite having nothing to do with cutting. I could see them making a bunch of moves fit the "launcher/bullet" archetype so mega chesnaught doesn´t become a fucking fraud

I think I'm gonna have some old whiplash going from 252/252 to something like 33/33/2 like woah where did my numbers go.

Do we know if there's gonna be ways to change flying/ground animations yet? Like someone playing with Charizard on the ground. I liked how ZA made Charizard X partially grounded and would hate to be locked to only awkwardly floating like it did in gens 6-7. Also any hope for Stadium/Colo/XD/Battle Revolution music to make it in? I think 10 year old me would fall over from hype if they did.

Some pokemon in SV would change between flying and grounded animation depending on when they're swapped in. Es Roaring Moon would be flying when first sent out, but grounded if swapped out and in again.

Similar tech could be used in Champions if they care.
Hopefully they care enough for visual updates over time, and not locking the Pokemon behind just the one model. For example, using the gens 6-9 Pikachu model over the new stance that Winds and Waves had.

Population Bomb is boosted by Sharpness because of a pun in Japanese that doesn't translate.

I'd love to be wrong but they also gave Mold Breaker to Mega Emboar, so there's no guarantee they'll indirectly buff the Mega of the least popular Kalos Starter.
