Copyediting [Gen 3] Defensive Calm Mind Celebi [0/1]

[SET]
Defensive Calm Mind (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 92 SpA / 4 SpD / 116 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Giga Drain / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Calm Mind
- Protect / Recover / Reflect

  • Psychic is a strong STAB move that hits the premier mons in the meta such as Zapdos and Gyarados for substantial, consistent damage because of the lack of Psychic resists and immunities in the tier, and the ones that do exist are smote by either Giga Drain or Hidden Power [Fire]. Giga Drain also has the added bonus of providing both Recovery and Offensive pressure and can buy Celebi extra turns.
  • Recover is used to provide more consistent longevity on teams with alternative ways to position around Tauros and Aerodactyl. Reflect can be used to benefit both itself and team members to cover late game cleaners such as the aforementioned Aerodactyl.
  • Leftovers is the best item for Celebi because it provides extra longevity and doesn’t need to run Lum because of Natural Cure.
  • The Special Attack investment lets Celebi 2HKO 252 HP Zapdos at +1 with Psychic and 2HKO 252 HP 64 SpDef Metagross with Hidden Power [Fire], the Special Bulk invest lets Celebi tank a 32+ SpA Arcanine Overheat, and get 3HKOed by the various non-STAB ice moves in the tier. The speed investment outspeeds max Spe Metagross. The rest of the EV's are dumped into Defence. If you are running Hidden Power [Fire] though, drop an EV in Defence to boost your Speed to 120 EVs so you can still outspeed Arcanine.
  • Celebi holds the coveted resistance to both Earthquake and Thunderbolt, so it can switch in, take minimal damage, potentially force out a threat and set up a Calm Mind. Celebi should be preserved until the late game, where it thrives on weakened opposing mons and can easily set up multiple Calm Minds and proceed to sweep.
  • Celebi is also used to threaten the likes of Swampert, Marowak and Suicune with Giga Drain, Metagross, Regice, Sceptile and other Celebi with Hidden Power [Fire], and Gengar with Psychic.
  • Celebi struggles vs Physical Attacks from the likes of Tauros, Aerodactyl and Metagross; so Intimidate/strong Fire damage support from the likes of Arcanine is greatly appreciated. Swampert is also a great partner—Celebi resists Swampert’s Grass weakness, while Swampert covers common threats to Celebi, such as Aerodactyl, Arcanine, Tauros, and Metagross. Suicune offers similar typing benefits, but instead of using Icy Wind, it works with Celebi to overwhelm opponents with its own Calm Mind boosts. Metagross is also quite good thanks to it's good matchup into Flying and Ice type moves, and also for general utility for removing the likes of Aerodactyl, opposing Celebi and Regice, it also helps that Celebi matches quite well into the STAB Ground moves Metagross hates.

This is an amcheck, don't implement until QC gives the green light. In the meantime I'd run your analysis from Grammarly, there's grammar and spelling issues throughout. Thanks for your work so far!

Defensive Calm Mind (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 92 SpA / 4 SpD / 116 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Giga Drain / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Calm Mind
- Protect / Recover

  • Psychic is a really strong STAB move that hits most of the best mons (which ones?) in the meta for substantial, consistent damage because of the lack of Psychic resists and immunities in the tier, and the ones that do exist are smitten by either Giga Drain or Hidden Power [Fire]. Recover is used on Celebi if you drop Giga Drain or on Screen Teams to provide Celebi with some longevity to maximise its boosts.
  • Add a bullet point on Giga Drain, mention that it provides HP recovery
  • Add a bullet point on Protect and Recover
  • Add a bullet point on alternative moves, such as HP Fire
  • Leftovers is the best item for Celebi because it provides extra longevity and stacks nicely with Giga Drain's healing. and doesn’t need to run Lum because of Natural Cure, meaning it can just switch into the many Thunder Wave's in the tier for free, and switch out at a later point to remove the status. (I would move most of this content about Natural Cure and using Celebi as a status sponge to the 5th bullet point, as it fits better with those usage tips themes)
The speed investment Speed-Creeps max Spe Metagross and 152 Spe Arcanine. The rest of the EV's are dumped into Defence, which conveniently lets it survive a +3, 96+ Atk Snorlax Return. If you are running Hidden Power [Fire] though, drop an EV in Defence to boost your Speed to 120 EVs so you can still outspeed Arcanine. You can use a spread of 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe with a Bold Nature, which provides Celebi with much more Physical Bulk at the cost of some power, meaning it needs 2 Calm Minds before it can get going but neutral Physical hits just bounce off it. The Speed investment on this spread lets it outspeed 252 Spe Kingdra outside of rain.
  • Other notable Speed benchmarks include: 36 EVs (The minimum for Speed investment as it outspeeds 252+ Spe Tyranitar), 112 (For outspeeding every opposing mon after a single Speed Drop), 220 (For outspeeding 252 Spe Arcanine) and 240 (For outspeeding 252+ Spe Heracross) (I think the set needs a new EV spread because the benchmarks are arbitrary. I'm not great at make EV spreads though, so I'll leave that to QC. The two previous bullet points on EVs would need to be re-written and condensed to one bullet point in that case.)
(Great work here, I like this!) Add content about Natural Cure and switching in to TWave here Celebi is also used to threaten the likes of Swampert, Marowak and Suicune with Giga Drain, Metagross, Regice, Sceptile and other Celebi with Hidden Power [Fire], and Gengar with Psychic. (This is redundant, you can mention these specific matchups under the moveset bullet points if you want.)
  • Celebi really struggles vs Physical Attacks from the likes of Tauros, Aerodactyl and Metagross; so Arcanine's Intimidate/strong Fire damage support from the likes of Arcanine is greatly appreciated. Swampert is also a great partner because of Celebi's resistance to Grass and Swampert being able to threaten mons Pokemon that Celebi dislikes facing, like Aerodactyl, Arcanine, Tauros and Metagross. Suicune is used as a partner to benefit from the same as Swampert; but so you can also overwhelm your opponent with Calm Mind boosts from both mons. (I'm not sure about listing Suicune as partner, their role's overlap with both being Calm Mind sweepers. I would remove this.) Metagross is also quite good thanks to it's good matchup into Flying and Ice type moves, and also for general utility for removing the likes of Aerodactyl, opposing Celebi and Regice, it also helps that Celebi matches quite well into the STAB Ground moves Metagross hates.

gutted the PhysDef spread and cleaned it up a bit

Defensive Calm Mind (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 92 SpA / 4 SpD / 116 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Giga Drain / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Calm Mind
- Protect / Recover

  • Psychic is a really strong STAB move that hits most of the best mons which? you can name 1-2. in the meta for substantial, consistent damage because of the lack of Psychic resists and immunities in the tier, and the ones that do exist are smitten smitten? you might mean smote (past tense of smite) but it's by either Giga Drain or Hidden Power [Fire]. examples are fine here as well. Recover is used on Celebi if you drop Giga Drain or on Screen Teams to provide Celebi with some longevity to maximise its boosts. this is not reflected in the slashes in the set - it's proposed as an alternative to protect there. you can either rewrite it or change the slashes. I'd recommend rewriting it
  • Leftovers is the best item for Celebi because it provides extra longevity and doesn’t need to run Lum because of Natural Cure, meaning it can just switch into the many Thunder Wave's in the tier for free, and switch out at a later point to remove the status. explaning how natural cure works is not necessary - you can just shorten it and say it absorbs thunder waves
The speed investment Speed-Creeps outspeeds max Spe Metagross and 152 Spe Arcanine. The rest of the EV's are dumped into Defence Defense. (AP), which conveniently lets it survive a +3, 96+ Atk Snorlax Return. If you are running Hidden Power [Fire] though, drop an EV in Defence to boost your Speed to 120 EVs so you can still outspeed Arcanine. The Speed investment on this spread lets it outspeed 252 Spe Kingdra outside of rain.
  • Other notable Speed benchmarks include: 36 EVs (The minimum for Speed investment as it outspeeds 252+ Spe Tyranitar), 112 (For outspeeding every opposing mon after a single Speed Drop), 220 (For outspeeding 252 Spe Arcanine) and 240 (For outspeeding 252+ Spe Heracross). Any remaining EVs can be dumped into Defence. killing this point and sticking to one spread.
Swampert is also a great partner because of Celebi's resistance to Grass and Swampert being able to threaten mons that Celebi dislikes facing, like Aerodactyl, Arcanine, Tauros and Metagross. Suicune is used as a partner to benefit from the same (from the same what? clarify this - is it because it checks the same things? cm might not be the best partner - perhaps something like icy wind utility is better.) as Swampert; but so you can also overwhelm your opponent with Calm Mind boosts from both mons. Metagross is also quite good thanks to it's good matchup into Flying and Ice type moves, and also for general utility for removing the likes of Aerodactyl, opposing Celebi and Regice, it also helps that Celebi matches quite well into the STAB Ground moves Metagross hates.

This needs another round of QC before it’s ready for the GP team imo. Smudge can I get your take on this? See the Discord #analysis-discussion thread for more context.

Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Giga Drain / Hidden Power [Fire]

[SET CREDITS]
*
Psychic is a strong STAB move that hits the premier mons Pokemon in the meta metagame such as Zapdos and Gyarados for substantial, consistent damage because of the lack of Psychic resists Psychic-resistant and immunities -immune Pokemon in the tier, and the ones that do exist are smote by either Giga Drain or Hidden Power [Fire]. Giga Drain also has the added bonus of providing both Recovery and Offensive offensive pressure and can buy recovery, buying Celebi extra turns.

* Recover is used to provide more consistent longevity on teams with alternative ways to position around Tauros and Aerodactyl. Reflect can be used to benefit both itself and team members to cover late game late-game cleaners such as the aforementioned Aerodactyl.

* Leftovers is the best item for Celebi because it provides extra longevity and doesn’t need to run Lum because of Natural Cure Natural Cure removes the need for Lum Berry.

* The Special Attack investment lets Celebi 2HKO Zapdos with 252 HP Zapdos EVs at +1 with Psychic and 2HKO Metagross with 252 HP and 64 SpDef Metagross with Special Defense EVs using Hidden Power [Fire] (RC). (AP) The Special Bulk invest Defense investment lets Celebi tank a 32+ SpA an Overheat from Modest Arcanine Overheat with 32 Special Attack EVs, and get 3HKOed by the various non-STAB ice Ice-type moves in the tier. The Speed investment outspeeds max Spe maximum Speed Metagross. The rest of the EV's EVs are dumped into Defence Defense. If you are Celebi is running Hidden Power [Fire] though, drop an EV in Defence, (AC) it can move 4 Defense EVs to boost your its Speed EVs to 120 EVs so you can still to outspeed Arcanine.

* Celebi holds the coveted resistance to both Earthquake and Thunderbolt, so it can switch in, take minimal damage, potentially force out a threat, (AC) and set up a Calm Mind. Celebi should be preserved until the late game late-game, where as it thrives on weakened opposing mons Pokemon and can easily set up multiple Calm Minds and proceed to sweep.

* Celebi is can also used to threaten the likes of Swampert, Marowak, (AC) and Suicune with Giga Drain (RC); (ASC) Metagross, Regice, Sceptile, (AC) and other opposing Celebi with Hidden Power [Fire] (RC); (ASC) and Gengar with Psychic.

* Celebi struggles vs against physical attacks from the likes of Tauros, Aerodactyl, (AC) and Metagross (RSC), (AC) so Intimidate/ and strong Fire damage Fire-type attack support from the likes of Arcanine is greatly appreciated. Swampert is also a great partner, (AC) as Celebi resists Grass-type attacks for Swampert’s Grass weakness; (ASC) in return, while Swampert it covers common threats to Celebi, such as Aerodactyl, Arcanine, Tauros, and Metagross. Suicune offers similar typing benefits, but instead of using Icy Wind Who is using Icy Wind? Sounds like either Suicune is choosing to not run it or it's something it can't do and Swampert can, it works with Celebi to overwhelm opponents with its own Calm Mind boosts. clarifying the idea of it being a CM user Metagross is also quite a good teammate thanks to it's good its matchup into against Flying- and Ice type Ice-type moves (RC) and also for general utility for removing the likes of Aerodactyl, opposing Celebi, (AC) and Regice (RC) it. (AP) Celebi also helps that Celebi matches matches up quite well into against the STAB Ground Ground-type is it only STAB? moves that Metagross hates.
