Announcement The Future of Pokebilities AAA

Hi everyone! Miss Crisis here, speaking on behalf of the PokeAAA council. Over the course of March, we watched this metagame develop in real time, as players poured their hearts and souls into this unique format throughout over 120,000 individual battles. PokeAAA offers something that almost nothing else can: interaction between multiple abilities on the same Pokemon. This core mechanic gives the metagame its own identity, far different than even Pokebilities and Almost Any Ability. Because of its resounding popularity and interest from the community, we're proud to announce the next stage of development in PokeAAA's history:

POKEBILITIES AAA NOW HAS A PERMANENT LADDER!

We had so much fun in March that we decided to keep the party going year round!
See you on the ladder :)

I remember the very day I thought to myself "huh, wouldn't it be messed up if Pokemon could have like, four abilities at once?". Back in early Generation 8, I was a driver in <<omm>>, bored at night and searching for something to build for. I had recently put together a mashup of Trademarked and Pokebilities, and loved the concept of multiple abilities working in tandem. If I remember correctly, there was already code in our room bot for a primitive, extremely unbalanced and unfun version of the tier. Broken combinations of abilities like Swift Swim and Primordial Sea were entirely legal, and the tier was nearly unplayable because of the very concept of doubling one's own speed without any team support. I took over the defunct council, and quickly instituted a series of complex bans which restricted the use of certain ability combinations on the same Pokemon. This was highly controversial, and I distinctly remember fighting for my life in the staff chat to prove that a series of complex bans was the correct tiering decision, a unique solution for a one-of-a-kind metagame. There was one serious and extremely funny downside to this: because we had to manually ban every Chlorophyll user from using Desolate Land, and every Swift Swim user from using Primordial Sea, and so on, the tournament code for Pokebilities AAA was so absurdly long that we couldn't even copy and paste it.

After these changes, PokeAAA rose to the forefront of the Gen8 mashups, featured in tournaments like OMM Trios and TPP. We still had our trials and tribulations throughout the generation; Clefable existed and was simultaneously the best defensive Pokemon and the best win condition in the metagame, there wasn't a limit (yet) on how many Regenerator users could be on a single team, HiZo committed several acts of terrorism found and abused several broken combinations of abilities, and the council voted to free Clefable, which was immediatly re-banned. After these issues were resolved (and during the process :), we all had a great time and were glad to play around with something so unique.

After the debut of Generation 9, PokeAAA was in a very dire state. It followed AAA's change to a single ability clause, which stifled the tier. Between the new offensive abilities, new threats, and the inability to form a solid Regenerator core, PokeAAA was left behind in the dust, as it was no longer enjoyable to play. After nearly two years in this state, I returned, assembled a council, and began to rebuild the tier. Moving Regenerator Clause to 2 users greatly increased the durability of defensive cores, and an expanded dex with some balance changes helped return the tier to a playable state.

I'm so absurdly happy to see this metagame come so far. We couldn't have gotten this far without the players, council members, and friends who helped us out along the way. You've made this boomer so proud.
Thank you,
Miss Crisis

Absolutely amazing news and a well deserved ladder. Got into PokeAAA because of all the seemingly endless combinations you can concoct (I think I still have my box lying around). I vividly remember the day when I saw the brightest minds in the OMM and OM room cook up hadron engine tauros. It's also been a pleasure seeing all the whacky sets on ladder and the friends I've made climbing.

Here's to many more hadron engine tauros, magic guard dittos (and magic guard dittos), early bird dozos, desolate land zards, Well Baked Body Iron Hands and, of course, intimidate corviknights.
