Pokémon Champions - releasing April 8, 2026

It was just Blaziken, Scizor, Medicham, and the Latis in XY and Audino in ORAS. And Medicham had to otherwise the Mega would have been weaker than the base form. That's only 6 out of 48.

And then ZA adds Greninja, Chesnaught, and Dragonite so far. It's not the norm, but ZA's done it an unusual amount just with those 3 out of the currently revealed 10 out of 45.

You forgot Abomasnow, so its 7 out of 48. I get your point though. That being said, out of 3 Megas that started with Levitate, 2 ended up retaining it. In SM those became 2 out of 2, since base Gengar lost it. Levitate Mons very rarely get a second ability in first place, Bronzong and Weezing are exceptions, not the norm.

All I want for Chimecho is for it to keep Levitate, honestly. They'd need to give it something pretty busted to be better than just keeping its current ability I think. Magic Bounce comes to mind, as well as anything like Filter or a Multiscale equivalent, but I don't really find any of them compelling enough beyond just keeping Levitate. I'd love to be wrong though, and have it have some weird cool ability that gives it play I hadn't thought of. I think the "-ate" abilities are just some of the most boring abilities though. Like, sure they're good, I guess, but they're not terribly interesting the tenth time, and basically losing an ability to get steel boomburst that you can't make great use of (what trick room mons want to take a side boomburst?) to be a worse farigiraf (admitted hyperbole) just sounds like a bad ending. I'm thinking purely in terms of VGC, of course, i don't imagine i'll play a singles tier where it'll be relevant unless they give it something truly obscene.

Idk, so many Mega Mons just stay with regular abilities. Chesnaught, Greninja, Scizor, the Latis... With Chimecho gaining Steel typing, Levitate is going to be great on it. Pokemon Company won,t think too much if they don,t have to, this is one of the simpliest ways to do things right for Chimecho specifically. An offensive ability on something so slow won,t likely work, Levitate however would be amazing on it.
I wish more levitate mons got other abilities and follow weezing. The latis could get something for doubles like “Eon Duo: when the opposite gender is also on the field gain a % increase in special attack, special defense and speed. Nice upside to having two of the same type, always thought they could get something like what plustle and minun got

Specifically the Latis are:
1. Perfect the way they are.
2. Got the 2 ugliest and most unnecesary Megas BY FAR. Those shits should have never been invented.

In regards to the rest of your post, I agree. Carnivine for example could have something like "Bug eater: Immune to Bug moves and does 25% damage to opponent if it uses one". U-Turn becomes much less spammable with this, but since the Mon is still very bad, its not a broken ability.

Mega Shedinja but it gets sturdy would be pretty funny ngl.

I wish there was a way for them to convert Shedinja into something actually fast and special oriented, it’s kinda a status spreading wall and nothing else.

If it wasn’t for shadow sneak and swords dance 90 physical attack would be trolling but it still feels the opposite of design intent… just from an era where silver wind and shadow ball were physical.

I picture it to be spiritomb almost where the ghost comes out of the shell.

Steel Boomburst might actually give it something of a niche in Ubers as a Xerneas counter. It'll one-shot if you can hit before Xerneas gets Geomancy up (or if it crits) and it'll two shot after, even if Xerneas went all in on Sp Defense which it usually doesn't since it needs Defense to fight Primal Groudon.
252 SpA Steel-ate Chimecho-Mega Boomburst vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Xerneas: 576-678 (146.5 - 172.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Steel-ate Chimecho-Mega Boomburst vs. +2 0 HP / 0 SpD Xerneas: 288-342 (73.2 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Steel-ate Chimecho-Mega Boomburst vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Xerneas: 452-534 (115 - 135.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Steel-ate Chimecho-Mega Boomburst vs. +2 0 HP / 252 SpD Xerneas: 228-270 (58 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And unless Xerneas is also Modest Chimecho can take any hit from even a +2 Xerneas and even Modest can only OHKO with Focus Blast. And it just laughs off Specs Xerneas, only things it can do better than 3hko with are Focus Blast and Thunder, and then well, you've choiced yourself into Focus Blast or Thunder.

The mega Latis are an example of good concept but horrible execution. Big giant plane wings and the colors being mixed together makes even the shiny colors look bad. Why would I mega evolve my beautiful gold latias to this weird washed out green.

Just going off of Klefki, I could see mega chimecho functioning if it had prankster too.

Decent defenses, access to recover/screens/setup moves/twave/healing wish/heal pulse/trick room/etc might be genuine in some formats

Might sound awful to mega for a priority healing wish but also mega chimecho can just 4th slot it for when it’s about to go down.

Gonna tell work my family died so I can spend the rest of the week playing this.

I'll get even more time when work finds out I'm lying and fires me. I just hope this game really isn't pay-to-win.
If the producer ended up lying about it we're storming Game Freak HQ

The day before Champions... I really can't wait.
I'm personally still on team steel-ate (metallicize?) or some sort of sound-based ability akin to punk rock in order to combo with its new access to boomburst in Z-A, since that would give Mega Chimichanga a distinct niche/gimmick entirely its own. They've generally avoided giving STAB boomburst to anything with over 100 base SpA, yes, but also, like, it's Chimecho. It probably still wouldn't be fully OU or high-level VGC viable even with that (although that's kinda more due to the competition for the mega slot more than anything lol)
Sadly, this is extremely true. It seems that almost everyone on Showdown (that I've talked to at least) thinks Chimecho is going to be outclassed by Brozong, especially if it gets Levitate. They're half right, it does much of the same things, but I think being able to use your Trick Room setter to do damage, or it's not threatening. I don't exactly know the calcs of what Steel-ate Boomburst is Ko-ing, but I'm taking the bet that it's slow enough to not be banned. (Then again, it gets Recover... it's really 50/50 IMO, it wasn't doing much in ZA OU)

Also update I take back everything I said about Megainium, it doesn't feel that strong at least to me.

Oh we have a mobile release date? I thought it was just "2026 lmao", silly me.
nah I'm guessing based on what unite was like

For a little bit earlier today, the Korean website listed the phone release as June though it's been removed since.
