New Mechanics in Champions

Abilities
  • Dragonize - This Pokemon's Normal-type moves become Dragon-type moves and have their power multiplied by 1.2.
  • Mega Sol - This Pokemon's moves are used as if the effects of Sunny Day were active.
  • Piercing Drill - This Pokemon's contact moves ignore a target's protection and deal 1/4 the usual damage.
    -- Horn Drill is an OHKO anyway (@kakane0420)
  • Spicy Spray - If this Pokemon is hit by an attack, the attacker becomes burned.

Changes to Old Mechanics

PP: All moves have max PP, and no moves have more than 20 base or max PP.
maxPP = 4 * (basePP / 5 + 1) So, 5 -> 8, 10 -> 12, 15 -> 16, 20 -> 20

Stat Calculations: (thanks Anubis)
HP = BaseHP + StatPoints + 75
Atk/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe = Nature * (BaseStat + StatPoints + 20), where Nature is 0.9, 1.0, or 1.1

Statuses
  • Frozen - 20% thaw per turn, no guaranteed end -> 25% thaw per turn, ends the third turn
  • Paralyzed - 1/4 chance move can't be used -> 1/8 chance
  • Asleep - Randomly 1 to 3 turns asleep -> turn 1: asleep, turn 2: 1/3 chance to wake up, turn 3: wakes up (no change to Rest)
Moves
Power
Apple Acid - 80 -> 90
Beak Blast - 100 -> 120

Fire Lash - 80 -> 90
First Impression - 90 -> 100
Grav Apple - 80 -> 90

Syrup Bomb - 85 -> 90

Secondary effect
Dire Claw - 50% -> 30%
Iron Head - 30% -> 20%
Moonblast - 30% -> 10%

Type
Growth - Normal -> Grass
Snap Trap - Grass -> Steel

Classification
Dire Claw, Dragon Claw, Shadow Claw gain Slicing

Effect
  • Salt Cure - Causes damage to the target equal to 1/16 of its max HP (1/8 if the target is Steel or Water type), instead of double those amounts
  • Toxic Thread - Lowers target's Speed by 2 stages, instead of 1
  • Fake Out can't be selected or executed after the first turn out (@PokeMaineEvent, @shairaba)
  • Encore used successfully before the target moves that turn uses the priority of the Encored move instead of the selected move (qrChar) (@shairaba)
  • Salt Cure's new description is not a lie (Meteordash)
  • Knock Off now removes the target's item even if the user faints to Rough Skin (Glory)
  • Rapid Spin now removes the target's item even if the user faints to Rough Skin (Stallion)
  • Dragon Cheer is now a sound move, Soundproof allies are immune (DooDMan)
Abilities
  • Unseen Fist - This Pokemon's contact moves ignore a target's protection and deal 1/4 the usual damage.
    -- Phantom Force still deals normal damage (Cazenovia)
  • A Sheer Force boosted move no longer prevents activation for Berserk, still prevents Shell Bell (DaWoblefet)
Misc
  • Trick Room's >1809 Speed overflow doesn't exist (DaWoblefet)
  • If the game would auto-select Struggle for the player's right Pokemon in Doubles, you get the option to switch or click Fight (DaWoblefet)
  • The Own Tempo Baton Pass bug doesn't exist (DarkFE)

Lying Move Descriptions/Classifications
  • Rage Powder is still a powder move despite not being displayed as one (u/ImposterDittoM)

Probably Bugs
  • Parting Shot VS White Herb asymmetrical info (DaWoblefet, 2)
  • Fake Out fails to make Mega Charizard Y flinch (DaWoblefet)
  • Unnerve sometimes does not prevent Pokemon with switch-in Abilities from eating their Berries (DaWoblefet)

Acknowledged Bugs

Some sample questions:

- Does a -1 stat stage = 0.7x actually mean 70% or is this just rounding 0.66x?

- Mega Sol is currently implemented on PS as a personal Utility Umbrella for sun while the Pokemon is attacking, i.e. Solar Beam is always full power regardless of whatever the actual weather is. Is this accurate? Also feel free to confirm my other speculation about Mega Sol here:

(will try to edit in proof of this stuff later, feel free to snipe me though, i dont have a capture card lolz)

[9:04 PM]dhelmise: mega victreebel has innards out
[9:07 PM]dhelmise: starmie has huge power
[9:07 PM]dhelmise: (shocker)
[9:07 PM]dhelmise: clefable has magic bounce
[9:08 PM]dhelmise: chandelure infiltrator
[9:08 PM]dhelmise: glimmora adaptability
[9:08 PM]dhelmise: hawlucha no guard
[9:09 PM]dhelmise: drampa has berserk
[9:09 PM]dhelmise: skarmory has stalwart
[9:12 PM]dhelmise: chimecho levitate
[9:18 PM]dhelmise: leech seed is 1/16 now
[9:22 PM]dhelmise: iron head nerfed, only 20% chance to flinch now

other things

terminology for a pokemon using dive is "Submerged", terminology for a pokemon using Fly/Bounce is "Sky-High"
terminology for ballistic moves is "ball & bomb"

Salt cure status has been nerfed in half
TodqkWU.png

Similarly, leech seed lowered to 1/16th per turn
L0IbmOR.png
Edit: despite this description, it still appears to do 12% in game

Moonblast now only has a 10% chance to drop special attack
hFa5C32.png

Iron head now only has a 20% chance to flinch
rEnSVUT.png

As posted elsewhere, paralysis is down to a 1/8 chance to immobilize, sleep is changed to 1-2 turns, freeze thaw chance is 25% per turn up to 3 turns (exact timing to be confirmed) [no clip atm]

Nails and Dandy★ did some more testing after this clip was saved from ladder but didn't record it. Worth testing more to confirm and see if this interaction comes up with other combinations of redirection.
I also had a weird interaction with encore, but I wasn't recording and can't review it
I encored, with a max speed m-lopunny, a neutral speed m-dragonite into protect and then it immediately used protect, moving ahead of my +1 volcarona (198 speed stat)
Seemingly acting at the priority of the move it was encored into and not the move they selected, as it would do previously

Here's a clip of that. Seems like a Pokemon getting encored no longer keeps its original priority bracket, instead using the encore'd moves priority bracket.

Strikethrough questions or parts of questions referred to elements that are not present in Champions. I'll update the questions with the answers.
Answered:
  1. What is Rapid Spin's PP? Are there any moves with more than 20 PP?
    • All moves are clipped to 20 BP (Dhelmise)
  2. Does Mega Sol have an activation message for two-turn moves? What about for other moves like Synthesis or Weather Ball?
    • It does only for two-turn moves.
  3. Does Mega Sol announce if the weather is Sun?
    • No.
  4. Does Mega Sol activate in other weathers?
    • Yes.
  5. Is item clause or teampreview enforced in private battles?
    • Yes.
  6. When you are Encore'd, does your move commit when you select the Fight button or can you still see your moves? When you select the Encored move, can you see the target selection menu?
  7. Is x4 and x1/4 effectiveness notified?
  8. Are all claw moves boosted by Sharpness? Crush Claw, Dire Claw, Dragon Claw, Metal Claw and Shadow Claw?
    • Yes to all of them.
  9. How does Horn Drill interact with Piercing Drill? Does it bypass protect?
  10. How is the HP percentage rounded? If a Pokémon is exactly at 50% HP, is the bar yellow or green? If a Pokémon is exactly at 20% HP, is the bar yellow or red?
  11. Given the Parting Shot + White Herb desync glitch, which activates first if a Pokémon targets its ally?
  12. Can you bring multiple Pokémon of the same species into a private battle?
  13. Can Galarian Slowbro mega-evolve?
    • No (it says in the item description).
Answered without video proof:
  1. Does Dragon Cheer affect an ally with Soundproof?
Unanswered:
  1. How much PP and Max PP does a transformed Pokémon or a mimicked move slot have?
  2. When Encored, and your move priority is recalculated, does it take into account Prankster, Gale Wings or Triage?
  3. If a Pokémon is hit by Quash and then Encore, is Quash's negative priority negated?
  4. What about Quick Claw and Prankster Encore—is the Quick Claw wasted?
  5. If a Pokémon is Encore'd and Mental Herb activates, is its move priority still changed to the Encore'd move?
  6. Also, if a Pokémon is Encore'd before acting and Mental Herb activates, which move does it execute that turn?
  7. Do status immunities from abilities trigger an immunity message like Spicy Spray? Do inaccurate defensive abilities, e.g., Static? Do offensive abilities, e.g., Poison Touch? Do damaging moves, e.g., Poison Jab? The last one can be tested by using Inferno into a Fire-type Pokémon.
  8. Like Knock Off, do Rapid Spin, Mortal Spin, Ceaseless Edge, or Stone Axe activate even if the Pokémon faints from Rocky Helmet? I would also test Thief separately since the item destination faints.
  9. Are Grass-type and Overcoat Pokémon still immune to Rage Powder?
  10. Are draining moves still blocked by Psychic Noise?
  11. Do Huge Power and Pure Power double the power of the move instead of the attack stat?
  12. Is damage from Mega Sol's Water-type moves halved?
  13. Does Berserk activate in the middle of multi-hit moves?
  14. What is Mimikyu and Palafin's forme after fainting?
Unanswerable:
  1. Are Ditto and Utility Umbrella in the game? If so, we can test Skill Swap with Mega Sol onto Ditto holding a Utility Umbrella to see which effect takes priority.
  2. It seems like Megas don't revert after fainting. If you use Revival Blessing, does your Pokémon stay in its Mega forme?
  3. Can Battle Bond Greninja mega-evolve?
  4. Are draining moves affected by Triage?

Does Mega Sol treat the weather as sun in general during move execution (similar to how Mold Breaker works)? For example, does Mega Sol ignore the Sp. Defense boost of Rock types in sandstorm? Does Mega Sol + U-turn into Castform turn it into Sun form? Will Mega Sol phazing into Leaf Guard mon become poisoned from Toxic Spikes?

Seeing the Meowstics technically have 2 megas due to male and female being different formes, yeah, they'd really have to go quite an extra mile to give megas to regional variants.

Seriously, formes are coded as borderline different Pokemon with the same dex number, expecting a secret mega without fanfare isn't really the way to go.

And we are still missing a mega Slowking lol

- How many turns is Solar Beam with Mega Sol in rain?
- What is Solar Beam's BP with Mega Sol in rain?
- What is Weather Ball's type with Mega Sol in rain?
- What is Weather Ball's BP with Mega Sol in rain?
- What is Weather Ball's type with Mega Sol in neutral weather?
- What is Weather Ball's BP with Mega Sol in neutral weather?
- What is Weather Ball's type with Mega Sol in rain while the opponent holds an Utility Umbrella?
- What is Weather Ball's BP with Mega Sol in rain while the opponent holds an Utility Umbrella?
- What is Weather Ball's type with Mega Sol in neutral weather while the opponent holds an Utility Umbrella?
- What is Weather Ball's BP with Mega Sol in neutral weather while the opponent holds an Utility Umbrella?

All these considering the attacker is Mega Meganium, of course. And I know the trailer implied the answer for the first two (1-turn, 120BP) but trailers may have unfinished content and we have the game now.

This is not comprehensive, but from all usecases I see, when meganium does or clicks anything itll just consider the weather sunny, and when Someone else clicks something itll consider the actual current weather condition.
This is my understanding. Think of it like Mold Breaker + Utility Umbrella. Mega Sol only activates when both effects would be in play at the same time: you are the attacker and the Utility Umbrella affects the attacker.
