PU Simisear

:monkey: -mz

[OVERVIEW]

Simisear is a niche sweeper that differentiates itself with its rare access to Fire-type STAB moves and decent coverage, along with Nasty Plot and a solid Speed tier. It can utilize various Z-Moves to break through would-be checks such as Lanturn and Audino, which makes it more threatening and unpredictable. However, Simisear's paltry defenses and weakness to Stealth Rock leave it open to Choice Scarf users like Primeape, Aurorus, and Swanna, along with certain forms of priority like Kabutops's Aqua Jet and Skuntank's Sucker Punch. Its meager bulk also makes it more difficult to set up a Nasty Plot, which is necessary to patch up Simisear's low damage output so that it can threaten defensive switch-ins more easily. Combusken and Turtonator are other options that give Simisear competition as Fire-type breakers, with Combusken being capable of cleaning with Speed Boost, Turtonator being able to more easily set up with its bulk, and both wielding an additional STAB type.

item: Firium Z / Grassium Z

evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Grass Knot offers solid coverage against usual Fire-type checks such as Jellicent, Regirock, and Quagsire. Focus Blast allows Simisear to break past bulky Normal-types such as Audino, Type: Null, and Munchlax more easily, as well as providing a stronger, albeit unreliable, neutral coverage option against other Fire-types like Combusken and Turtonator. Hidden Power Ice gives Simisear a reliable attack against Dragon-types such as Altaria and Silvally-Dragon.

Set Details
========

Firium Z powers up Fire Blast to enable Simisear to be more threatening without a boost and also gives it the ability to break down specially defensive walls or tanks such as Clefairy, Eelektross, and Hitmonchan. Grassium Z turns Grass Knot into a one-time powerful attack that lets Simisear OHKO Lanturn, Qwilfish, and defensive Poliwrath after a boost, which is something Grass Knot cannot accomplish on its own. However, Bloom Doom lacks Inferno Overdrive's raw power, so it leaves Simisear unable to break past the aforementioned specially defensive Pokemon.

Usage Tips
========

Utilize Simisear's solid Speed tier and coverage to threaten a Pokemon out such as Jynx or Oricorio-E, and attack or set up Nasty Plot. Only set up when Simisear can force a switch, as it can't afford to take a hit while setting up. Simisear is quite frail, especially considering its Stealth Rock weakness, and avoid switching it into any attacks, as most of them can either KO Simisear or weaken it to the point where it can't set up. Simisear can also throw out attacks before a boost to hit offensive checks such as Lycanroc or Floatzel that it lures in on the switch. Be conservative with its Z-Move, and don't make it obvious which one it's running, as the potential threat of either Z-Move allows Simisear to threaten out and break through more Pokemon. Simisear can wallbreak early- or mid-game to open up holes in the opposing team and possibly attempt to go for a sweep itself late-game once certain roadblocks such as Choice Scarf users have been dealt with by its teammates.

Team Options
========

Simisear greatly appreciates pivots that can bring it in safely, so options like Lanturn, Eelektross, and Mesprit pair nicely. Paralysis support from Thunder Wave users such as Mesprit and Qwilfish can cripple Pokemon that can usually revenge kill Simisear, such as Lycanroc and Dodrio, while Knock Off from Scyther and Dodrio can similarly slow down Choice Scarf users like Togedemaru and Aurorus. Cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Pinsir, and Gurdurr can take advantage of bulkier walls like Mudsdale, Jellicent, and Mesprit being broken down by Simisear. Pokemon like Poliwrath, Floatzel, and Mudsdale appreciate opposing Water-types being broken down, and in return they can check Lycanroc and Alolan Dugtrio. Simisear's weakness to Stealth Rock means that entry hazard removers like Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash make for good partners as well, with Simisear also being capable of breaking down certain Stealth Rock users they may struggle with, such as Regirock and Mudsdale.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Simisear can hold alternative items when running Nasty Plot and if the team has another Z-Move user, but the nuke Z-Moves grant is usually preferred. Life Orb is an option, as it still gives Simisear a notable increase in power, even unboosted, but it wears Simisear down faster along with entry hazards and priority. Salac Berry alongside Gluttony and Substitute can give Simisear the ability to clean or even sweep a game with the Speed boost as well as give it an option to work around Sucker Punch. However, this set remains vulnerable to priority and gives up a coverage move for Substitute, which is needed to reliably activate Salac Berry. An all-out attacking set with a spread of 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe with a Naive nature and a moveset consisting of Fire Blast, Grass Knot, Superpower, and Knock Off can forego Nasty Plot setup in in favor of more coverage, with the biggest catch being Superpower, which is efficient at defeating Normal-types such as Audino, Drampa, and Stoutland while also hitting Lycanroc and Lanturn harder.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Despite Simisear's decent Speed tier, it is still prone to being revenge killed by Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Dodrio, Alolan Dugtrio, and most Choice Scarf users like Primeape and Kabutops, which are capable of outspeeding Simisear and knocking it out.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Certain specially defensive tanks or walls such as Hitmonchan, Lanturn, Type: Null, and Altaria can potentially wall Simisear if it lacks the proper Z-Crystal or coverage move.

**Stealth Rock**: Simisear holds a bothersome weakness to Stealth Rock, which chips it as it switches in and can put it in range of certain attacks such as Togedemaru's Zing Zap and Scyther's Aerial Ace much more quickly. This makes it harder for Simisear to stick around or come into battle as well as limiting its setup opportunities.

**Priority**: Simisear's low bulk, Stealth Rock weakness, and lack of resistances leads to it being picked off by various priority attacks like Hitmonchan's Mach Punch and Kangaskhan's Fake Out without much issue.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Simisear is a niche Fire-type wallbreaker (and sweeper)capable of functioning with its solid speed tier, sufficient coverage, and Nasty Plot, which are all unique options Simisear has over its competition.(specify fire types, cuz technically alolachu and jynx have this too)
  • It can utilize various Z moves to break through would-be checks such as Lanturn or Audino, which makes it more threatening and unpredictable.
  • However, Simisear has paltry defenses, as well as a weakness to Stealth Rock, leaving it open to Choice Scarf users like Primeape, Aurorus, and Swanna, along with certain forms of priority like Kabutop's Aqua Jet and Skuntank's Sucker Punch.
  • It’s meager bulk also makes it more difficult to set up a Nasty Plot, which is necessary to off-put its underwhelming damage unboosted, so that Simisear can threaten switch ins easier.(specify defensive mons)
  • Combusken and Turtonator are other options that give Simisear competition as Fire-type breakers, with Combusken capable of cleaning with Speed Boost, and Turtonator is able to set up easier with its bulk.(both also have secondary STAB)

Moves
========
  • Nasty Plot gives Simisear the ability to abuse switches or free turns to boost its Special Attack, which turns it into a threatening breaker(sweeper too).
  • Grass Knot offers solid coverage against usual Fire-type checks such as Jellicent, Regirock, or Quagsire.
  • Focus Blast allows Simisear to break past bulky Normal-types such as Audino, Type: Null, and Munchlax easier, as well as stronger, albeit unreliable, neutral coverage against other Fire-types like Combusken or Turtonator.
  • Hidden Power Ice gives Simisear a reliable attack against Dragon-types such as Altaria, Silvally-Dragon, and Alolan Exeggutor.

Set Details
========
  • Blaze gives Fire Blast more kick while Simisear is below a third of its health.(unnecessary imo, remove)
  • Firium Z powers up Fire Blast to enable Simisear to be more threatening without a boost, and gives it the ability to break down Special Defensive walls or tanks such as Clefairy, Eelektross, and Hitmonchan.
  • Grassium Z turns Grass Knot into a consistent high power attack that lets Simisear OHKO Lanturn, Qwilfish, and Defensive Poliwrath after a boost, whereas regular Grass Knot cannot.

Usage Tips
========
  • Utilize Simisear's solid speed tier to threaten a Pokemon out such as Alolan Sandslash or Tangela, and attack or set (random extra space here)up Nasty Plot to try and break through a potential switch in.
  • Simisear is quite frail, especially considering the Stealth Rock weakness, so avoid switching directly into any stronger hits(honestly hits in general), and even switching into weaker hits can stop it from setting up safely with Nasty Plot.
  • Simisear can throw out attacks before a boost to hit offensive checks such as Lycanroc or Floatzel on the switch.(specify that it lures them in)
  • The Z move should not be wasted if it's needed to break through a certain threat, and try to be ambiguous(waht does that even mean) with which Z move it is until it's needed.
(talk about when ud wallbreak (early, mid, late game) and late game sweeping)
Team Options
========
  • Simisear greatly appreciates pivots that can bring it in safely, so options like Primeape, Eelektross, and Scyther pair nicely.(ape and scyther arent the best examples, since theyre fast so simisear will often end up taking a hit anyway. better examples are slower mons like lanturn and mes)
  • Paralysis support from Thunder Wave users such as Mesprit or Qwilfish can cripple Pokemon that can usually revenge kill Simisear, such as Lycanroc and Dodrio.(might as well mention knock too ig for scarf mons)
  • Pokemon like Poliwrath, Floatzel, and Mudsdale appreciate opposing Water-types being broken down, and in turn they can check Lycanroc and Alolan Dugtrio.
  • Simisear's weakness to Stealth Rock means that entry hazard removers like Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash fit well, with Simisear also capable of breaking down certain Stealth Rock users they may struggle with, such as Regirock and Mudsdale.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Life Orb is an option whenever the Z move slot is not open, still giving Simisear a notable increase in power, even unboosted, but Life Orb cuts into Simisear's poor bulk even more(moreso how easiy its worn down through hazards+priority), and lacks the one-time nuke of a Z move.
  • Salac Berry alongside Gluttony and Substitute can give Simisear the ability to clean or even sweep a game with the Speed boost. However, this set remains vulnerable to priority and gives up a coverage move for Substitute, which is needed to reliably activate Salac Berry.
(Maybe a mixed attacker set?)
Checks and Counters
===================

**Revenge Killers(just say faster mons)**: Despite Simisear's decent speed tier, it is still prone to being revenge killers such as Lycanroc, Dodrio, Alolan Dugtrio, and most Choice Scarf users like Primeape or Kabutops, who are capable of outspeeding and KOing.

**Special Defensive Pokemon**: Certain specially defensive tanks or walls such as Hitmonchan, Lanturn, Type: Null, and Altaria can potentially wall Simisear if it lacks the proper Z crystal or coverage move.

**Stealth Rock**: Simisear holds a bothersome weakness to Stealth Rock, chipping it upon switch in, which can put Simisear into range of certain attacks such as Togedemaru's Zing Zap and Scyther's Aerial Ace much quicker, thus making it harder for Simisear to stick around or bring into battle.

Usage Tips
========
Utilize Simisear's solid speed tier to threaten a Pokemon out such as Alolan Sandslash or Tangela (these rlly aren't good examples if you're talking about speed tiers since the threat here is its type advantage. you could change the wording and also include mons that're actually threatened by being slower, flows better with the forced switch part as well), and attack or set up Nasty Plot, although only set up when Simisear can force a switch, as it can’t afford to take a hit while setting up. Simisear is quite frail, especially considering the Stealth Rock weakness, so avoid switching into any attacks, as most of them can KO it or weaken Simisear to the point where it can’t set up. (you could briefly mention when to throw off or reveal your z move. since simisear's checks are far shakier without knowing what z it's running it helps create far more offensive pressure)

Salac Berry alongside Gluttony and Substitute can give Simisear the ability to clean or even sweep a game with the Speed boost, as well as have an option to work around Sucker Punch. However, this set remains vulnerable to priority and gives up a coverage move for Substitute, which is needed to reliably activate Salac Berry. An all-out-attacking set with a spread of 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe, (RC) with a Naive nature, (RC) and a moveset consisting of Fire Blast, Grass Knot, Superpower, and Knock Off can forego Nasty Plot set up in turn for favor of more coverage, with the biggest catch being Superpower, which is efficient at defeating Normal-types such as Audino, Drampa, and Stoutland, while also hitting Lycanroc and Lanturn harder.

Checks and Counters

**Faster Pokemon**: Despite Simisear's decent Speed tier, it is still prone to being revenge killers killed by Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Dodrio, Alolan Dugtrio, and most Choice Scarf users like Primeape or Kabutops, who which are capable of outspeeding and KOing it.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Certain specially defensive tanks or walls such as Hitmonchan, Lanturn, Type: Null, and Altaria can potentially wall Simisear if it lacks the proper Z-Crystal (AH) or coverage move.

**Stealth Rock**: Simisear holds a bothersome weakness to Stealth Rock, chipping it upon switch in, which can put Simisear it into the range of certain attacks such as Togedemaru's Zing Zap and Scyther's Aerial Ace much quicker. This makes it harder for Simisear to stick around or bring into battle, as well as limiting its set up opportunities.

**Priority**: Simisear's low bulk, Stealth Rock weakness, and lacking in resistances equates to it being picked off by various priority attacks like Hitmonchan's Mach Punch and Kangaskhan's Fake Out without much issue.

[OVERVIEW]

Simisear is a niche sweeper that differentiates itself with its rare access to Fire-type STAB moves and decent coverage, along with Nasty Plot and a solid Speed tier. It can utilize various Z-Moves (AH) to break through would-be checks such as Lanturn or and Audino, which makes it more threatening and unpredictable. However, Simisear has paltry defenses, (RC) as well as and a weakness to Stealth Rock, leaving it open to Choice Scarf users like Primeape, Aurorus, and Swanna, along with certain forms of priority like Kabutop's Aqua Jet and Skuntank's Sucker Punch. It’s Its meager bulk also makes it more difficult to set up a Nasty Plot, which is necessary to off-put its underwhelming damage unboosted patch up Simisear's low damage output, (RC) so that Simisear it can threaten defensive switch-ins (AH) easier more easily. Combusken and Turtonator are other options that give Simisear competition as Fire-type breakers, with Combusken being capable of cleaning with Speed Boost, Turtonator being able to more easily set up easier with its bulk, and both wielding an additional STAB type.

Moves
========
Grass Knot offers solid coverage against usual Fire-type checks such as Jellicent, Regirock, or and Quagsire. Focus Blast allows Simisear to break past bulky Normal-types such as Audino, Type: Null, and Munchlax easier more easily, as well as providing a stronger, albeit unreliable, neutral coverage option against other Fire-types like Combusken or and Turtonator. Hidden Power Ice gives Simisear a reliable attack against Dragon-types such as Altaria and Silvally-Dragon.

Set Details
========
Firium Z powers up Fire Blast to enable Simisear to be more threatening without a boost, (RC) and also gives it the ability to break down Special specially defensive walls or tanks such as Clefairy, Eelektross, and Hitmonchan. Grassium Z turns Grass Knot into an consistent high power one-time powerful attack that lets Simisear OHKO Lanturn, Qwilfish, and defensive Poliwrath after a boost, whereas regular which is something Grass Knot cannot accomplish on its own. However, Grassium Z lacks raw power, so it leaves Simisear unable to break past the aforementioned Special specially defensive Pokemon.

Usage Tips
========
Utilize Simisear's solid Speed tier and coverage to threaten a Pokemon out such as Jynx or Oricorio-E, and (this should stay because line doesn't really make sense otherwise) attack or set up Nasty Plot, although. (period) Only set up when Simisear can force a switch, as it can’t afford to take a hit while setting up. Simisear is quite frail, especially considering the its Stealth Rock weakness, so avoid switching it into any attacks, as most of them can either KO it Simisear or weaken Simisear it to the point where it can't set up. Simisear can throw out attacks before a boost to hit offensive checks such as Lycanroc or and Floatzel that it lures in (lure is the pokemon, not the move) on the switch to lure them. Be conservative with it's its Z-Move, (AC) (AH) and don't make it obvious which one it's running, as the potential threat of either Z-Move (AH) allows Simisear to threaten out and break through more Pokemon. Simisear can wallbreak in the early or mid-game early- or mid-game to open up holes in the opposing team, (RC) and can possibly attempt to go for a sweep itself (original works) in the late-game once certain roadblocks such as Choice Scarf users have been dealt with by its teammates.

Team Options
========
Simisear greatly appreciates pivots that can bring it in safely, so options like Lanturn, Eelektross, and Mesprit pair nicely. Paralysis support from Thunder Wave users such as Mesprit or and Qwilfish can cripple Pokemon that can usually revenge kill Simisear, such as Lycanroc and Dodrio, while Knock Off from Scyther and Dodrio can similarly slow down Choice Scarf users like Togedemaru and Aurorus. Cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Pinsir, or and Gurdurr can take advantage of bulkier walls like Mudsdale, Jellicent, and Mesprit being broken down by Simisear. Pokemon like Poliwrath, Floatzel, and Mudsdale appreciate opposing Water-types being broken down, and in return they can check Lycanroc and Alolan Dugtrio. Simisear's weakness to Stealth Rock means that entry hazard removers like Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash fit make for good partners as well, with Simisear also being capable of breaking down certain Stealth Rock users they may struggle with, such as Regirock and Mudsdale.

Simisear can hold alternative items when running Nasty Plot and the Z slot is not open if the team doesn't have another Z-Move user, (if the team DOES have another Z-Move user because original says "z-slot is not open" which means it's taken) but the nuke of Z-Moves (AH) grant is usually preferred. Life Orb is an option, as it still gives Simisear a notable increase in power, even unboosted, but Life Orb chips it makes Simisear be easily worn down (say something like "wears Simisear down faster" to make more sense and read more clearly) along with entry hazards and priority even faster.
