[OVERVIEW]
Simisear is a niche sweeper that differentiates itself with its rare access to Fire-type STAB moves and decent coverage, along with Nasty Plot and a solid Speed tier. It can utilize various Z-Moves to break through would-be checks such as Lanturn and Audino, which makes it more threatening and unpredictable. However, Simisear's paltry defenses and weakness to Stealth Rock leave it open to Choice Scarf users like Primeape, Aurorus, and Swanna, along with certain forms of priority like Kabutops's Aqua Jet and Skuntank's Sucker Punch. Its meager bulk also makes it more difficult to set up a Nasty Plot, which is necessary to patch up Simisear's low damage output so that it can threaten defensive switch-ins more easily. Combusken and Turtonator are other options that give Simisear competition as Fire-type breakers, with Combusken being capable of cleaning with Speed Boost, Turtonator being able to more easily set up with its bulk, and both wielding an additional STAB type.

Moves
========
Grass Knot offers solid coverage against usual Fire-type checks such as Jellicent, Regirock, and Quagsire. Focus Blast allows Simisear to break past bulky Normal-types such as Audino, Type: Null, and Munchlax more easily, as well as providing a stronger, albeit unreliable, neutral coverage option against other Fire-types like Combusken and Turtonator. Hidden Power Ice gives Simisear a reliable attack against Dragon-types such as Altaria and Silvally-Dragon.
Set Details
========
Firium Z powers up Fire Blast to enable Simisear to be more threatening without a boost and also gives it the ability to break down specially defensive walls or tanks such as Clefairy, Eelektross, and Hitmonchan. Grassium Z turns Grass Knot into a one-time powerful attack that lets Simisear OHKO Lanturn, Qwilfish, and defensive Poliwrath after a boost, which is something Grass Knot cannot accomplish on its own. However, Bloom Doom lacks Inferno Overdrive's raw power, so it leaves Simisear unable to break past the aforementioned specially defensive Pokemon.
Usage Tips
========
Utilize Simisear's solid Speed tier and coverage to threaten a Pokemon out such as Jynx or Oricorio-E, and attack or set up Nasty Plot. Only set up when Simisear can force a switch, as it can't afford to take a hit while setting up. Simisear is quite frail, especially considering its Stealth Rock weakness, and avoid switching it into any attacks, as most of them can either KO Simisear or weaken it to the point where it can't set up. Simisear can also throw out attacks before a boost to hit offensive checks such as Lycanroc or Floatzel that it lures in on the switch. Be conservative with its Z-Move, and don't make it obvious which one it's running, as the potential threat of either Z-Move allows Simisear to threaten out and break through more Pokemon. Simisear can wallbreak early- or mid-game to open up holes in the opposing team and possibly attempt to go for a sweep itself late-game once certain roadblocks such as Choice Scarf users have been dealt with by its teammates.
Team Options
========
Simisear greatly appreciates pivots that can bring it in safely, so options like Lanturn, Eelektross, and Mesprit pair nicely. Paralysis support from Thunder Wave users such as Mesprit and Qwilfish can cripple Pokemon that can usually revenge kill Simisear, such as Lycanroc and Dodrio, while Knock Off from Scyther and Dodrio can similarly slow down Choice Scarf users like Togedemaru and Aurorus. Cleaners such as Kangaskhan, Pinsir, and Gurdurr can take advantage of bulkier walls like Mudsdale, Jellicent, and Mesprit being broken down by Simisear. Pokemon like Poliwrath, Floatzel, and Mudsdale appreciate opposing Water-types being broken down, and in return they can check Lycanroc and Alolan Dugtrio. Simisear's weakness to Stealth Rock means that entry hazard removers like Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash make for good partners as well, with Simisear also being capable of breaking down certain Stealth Rock users they may struggle with, such as Regirock and Mudsdale.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Simisear can hold alternative items when running Nasty Plot and if the team has another Z-Move user, but the nuke Z-Moves grant is usually preferred. Life Orb is an option, as it still gives Simisear a notable increase in power, even unboosted, but it wears Simisear down faster along with entry hazards and priority. Salac Berry alongside Gluttony and Substitute can give Simisear the ability to clean or even sweep a game with the Speed boost as well as give it an option to work around Sucker Punch. However, this set remains vulnerable to priority and gives up a coverage move for Substitute, which is needed to reliably activate Salac Berry. An all-out attacking set with a spread of 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe with a Naive nature and a moveset consisting of Fire Blast, Grass Knot, Superpower, and Knock Off can forego Nasty Plot setup in in favor of more coverage, with the biggest catch being Superpower, which is efficient at defeating Normal-types such as Audino, Drampa, and Stoutland while also hitting Lycanroc and Lanturn harder.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Faster Pokemon**: Despite Simisear's decent Speed tier, it is still prone to being revenge killed by Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Dodrio, Alolan Dugtrio, and most Choice Scarf users like Primeape and Kabutops, which are capable of outspeeding Simisear and knocking it out.
**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Certain specially defensive tanks or walls such as Hitmonchan, Lanturn, Type: Null, and Altaria can potentially wall Simisear if it lacks the proper Z-Crystal or coverage move.
**Stealth Rock**: Simisear holds a bothersome weakness to Stealth Rock, which chips it as it switches in and can put it in range of certain attacks such as Togedemaru's Zing Zap and Scyther's Aerial Ace much more quickly. This makes it harder for Simisear to stick around or come into battle as well as limiting its setup opportunities.
**Priority**: Simisear's low bulk, Stealth Rock weakness, and lack of resistances leads to it being picked off by various priority attacks like Hitmonchan's Mach Punch and Kangaskhan's Fake Out without much issue.
