    Hmm...I would keep Sirius's evil alignment a secret up until the summit myself. As for the opening, you could possibly have some odd weather facility be monitoring the world's weather like normal and then suddenly have stuff going crazy when the disasters start. Perhaps culminating in some Red Alert being issued just before things go haywire.

    On a different note: the Eighth gym is filled with a thick, black fog that is designed to disorient foes.

    Each gym after the first should have an interesting battle area....

    Good. I figure that it makes sense. Vigoroth easy takes out the leader's first poke because neither saw that coming, then it is easly taken out by the second since the leader noticed it just reacted instead of actually using strategy. That leaves it to being actually being 2 v 2.

    Well, Marik, in his haste, did nit hear the Nurse Joy's warning. Instead, he ran straight out to the gym and challenged the leader. Instead of a Slakoth, he sends out a Vigoroth. It's hyper energy means that it will be extremely strong, but it will not listen to Marik until after the badge is won!!

    Well, I haven't fully read BpB....soooo.....I really don't know how to begin. Anyway, I have an idea for your RP though. It'll be an advantage and disadvantage for the gym match :)
