It's a lot safer. You can lose the fighting gem by someone making a good switch-in to a psychic type and outpredicting you whereas the Life Orb is permanent.
I've equipped the Life Orb. I'll have to give it a go with CC.
I do. I'm running Mach Punch, Sucker Punch, Fake Out, and Wide Guard. I'm not sure whether I should replace Mach Punch with Close Combat, as Mach Punch allows me to snipe a lot of faster pokemon.
