  • just made on last night. the loneliness is getting to me on the weekends. i need my friends :P also, i posted in the Bistro
Same here... I'm probably going to be off for most of the week because of school. (I get Fridays and Saturdays off, and Sundays are crammed full with homework...)
There's actually little risk in my field. In fact it's probably one of the safest jobs possible that actually allows you to go places at the same time as being in one of most powerful ships in the world.
Nope. It was all on the contract I signed. That doesn't include all of the health and life insurance I got either ridiculously cheaply, or free.
Every last penny. Not only that, they've got a benefit that lets me get a college degree even on top of my training, worth up to $80,000. On top of that, if they send my to college after training, I'll get paid as well, and my pay will be about $2,000 per month. (I joined two ranks above most people who enter, and have $1767 a month atm.)

My re-enlistment bonus just for staying for two years will also be anywhere from $90,000 to $100,000. Yeah, the Navy throws a LOT of money to people they want to keep.

Either that, or I can go and try to become an officer, and in the Nuclear field, the pickup rate is very high, especially when compared to the rest of the Navy.
Yeah, that's the training. It costs the Navy that much to train me... And they're giving me $11,000 on top of my paycheck just for joining the program!
It's the highest-paying job in the Navy! XD

On top of all that money, I'm getting half a million dollar's worth of MIT-worthy training here!
Well, the field I'm going into will get me (more or less) automatically put on an aircraft carrier.

What the aircraft carriers basically do is send out jets and other aircraft over a good distance (probably out to land), where they fight and beat the enemy. After that, they come right back.

What I will do on an aircraft carrier is pretty much to operate the nuclear reactor on it. I'll make sure it's good to go, so that the carrier can move forward and get its job done.
